I think the thing that Lowko's missing is that the mutas weren't just "against terran late game". Dark was very specifically hunting down tanks and ghosts, i.e the things that would kill the ultraling composition that he would swing to after the mutas. He was essentially repeatedly clearing out the counters to ultraling so he could do damage with that.

I am surprised Lowko until the end apparently didn't fully understand what Dark was doing with the Mutas. He got SO MUCH value from one-shotting the siege tanks and harrassing the ghosts - which are good against almost everything, but Mutas not so much! - before walking in with the Ultras. It's a brilliant idea, which I feel has even more potential to give Zerg another option in late-game ZvT.

However I have found myself not watching as much lately, maybe just all the tournaments that have been going on. Not a criticism at all, just giving you some feed back on my watching habits if it happens to relate to a trend. Always enjoy seeing you cast at the big tournaments.
@Owlr4ider2 ай бұрын
Terran does have very good units to counter mutas. For bio builds it's the humble marine, for mech it's either the cyclone or thor depending on the version: battle and standard respectively. There is also the viking of course. However when Terrans enter the very late game they typically stick to mostly ghosts and liberators, neither of which is particularly great against mutas. Actually making a late game muta switch a very viable tactic as Dark showed in game 1.

The word "meme" certainly existed in 2008. At least in the 4chan circles.
@MarlotteTR6 ай бұрын
The word "meme" is a concept proposed by Richard Dawkins long before memes appeared on the Internet. In his proposal, the "meme" is the most basic element of culture to share, like a "gene" with genetic information or a "bit" with computational data. Later, in the early 90s, the "internet meme" first appeared when Mike Godwin talked about how such "memes" were spread through email, forums, etc. Finally, during the new millennium, globalization allows people to access the digital era where social media have a great impact on the way, speed and breadth of dissemination of these "memes".

@roddylee647221 күн бұрын
Dark's muta usage was brilliant in game 1 but I was so frustrated by him throwing away 30 banelings for an orbital at a base with few minerals left. He just needed to focus on mining out the bottom right base as much as possible, as long as he mined two more bases than the Terran he could afford to simply sit back, defend his bases with baneling packs while harassing the Terran and keeping him on the back foot with his mutalisks. If he had mined out the bottom right base it would have been completely over after Byun failed to kill his top left.

SPOILER ALERT: ------- ------- My noob brain was thinking in all the matches: "oh the zerg is clearly winning ez gg", but then the defense from Byun was amazing. Wave after wave and you feel like every small mistake can cost the match. So It looks like playing zerg is a mandatory super-aggressive game you need to perform which can be exhausting because you need more brain power to process everything that's going down. The score is tied to the best of between dark and byun as I understand it, so whether they get zero, one half or even one whole point makes no difference. In chess, you get 1/2 points for a draw because you usually play in large tournament settings against a multitude of different players.
