@@shepherdlavellen3301 Think s bit further. Worlds that fall to the virus is a staging fround for zerg. Not dealing with it means the enemy grows and could endanger them in numerous ways. Cleansing a planet takes time and resources. Providing a means to prevent spread is much more efficient, since the intelligent species, primarily terran, would be able to manufacture vaccines themselves if they knew how. Logically speaking, it makes sense that the Protoss have tried to find a cure, and the reason why they still do cleansing by fire is because it simply cannot be cured. Yes, there is a path where Ariel "finds" a cure, but there is nothing saying it will last. In the lore, a cure has been discovered many times, but the virus always overcomes it by adaptation. Hence why even the Terrans are resigned to cleransing rather than curing.

@@Luxai 1. Protoss can't be mutated, so they never tried to look for a cure themselves. Rashagal's infection feels more like a convenient plot device more than actual lore. 2. They are quite fanatical when the conclave was still a thing. If Tassadar obeyed order, terran planets would have been purged with humans on it. 3. Cure isn't the only mean to prevent a spread, quarantine and purification also works. There's always more Zerg virus than Protoss cure (irl though it's only couple billion), even now quarantine is still the most important step to prevent an epidemic. And the vacuum of space is the best isolation chamber. 4. After the Aiur fell, there wasn't much resource and manpower to be spared on anti virus, why care about virus when they can just kill you with regular means

Almost from the start I was planning on siding with Selendis. My point of view being, "They'll just round up the infected and burn them to save the rest. Acceptable losses." But then she mentions meeting in glorious combat. How do you say no to that? At the end of the battle, she takes her defeat quite well. It seems she actually enjoyed the opportunity to take Rynor head on, as if it were just a twisted form of a romantic date. Either Rynor has game, or protoss women are crazy. Probably both.

There's a continuity error. If you read about "Infested Stukov" (which is canon according to Blizzard from the N64 Starcraft), it's actually the Protoss which developed technology to revert infested terrans back to their original human forms via Nanites (and it's Raynor who recovers and cures Stukov). You can see the mission on YT called "Ressurection IV". He's also spotted in the mission "Deception". (N64)

The problem is that by choosing Ariel, you'll get the 25 protoss research much later. The game spams you with zerg samples but protoss relics are not as frequent.

Even if Narud would not have been involved, i don't think the cure would've last long. Zerg are famous/infamous for their adapting/evolving capabilities, i think they would've adapted to the cure pretty quickly.

She found a cure for the virus, not the actual infestation. The Protoss managed a cure for infestation once, but it didn't last. Only time will tell if Ariel's cure will last or if the zerg virus will simply adapt and infest them all.

It probably will. The virus mutates too fast to cure, so it will just bypass the cure.

I don't mean that the protoss can't clean the planet out. What I mean is that the Raiders are more capable of doing it surgically than the protoss by virtue of A: knowing the colonists and being able to talk to them easily, and B: they know how the colony works and won't have to fight the non-infested colonists. Basically, the Raiders doing it is overall going to have a lower casualty count regardless because this is, as Jim said, "a terran thing".

I liked her appearance better in Wings of Liberty. Besides, doesn't it seem...pretty sketchy that a character noticeably changes appearance within the same game? Sure, Legacy of the Void and Wings of Liberty are separate episodes of the same game released more than 5 years apart, but you'd think the development of the game would be more consistent than to have a character (granted, she was fairly minor) change appearance like that.

@dksled Haha, she didn't actually "appear" in Brood War. It's nothing official, but I think was supposed to be the PLAYER character. Remember in Episode IV, when Artanis would talk to YOU as "Executor?" I think you're supposed to be playing as Selendis.

However, in the selendis ending she refers to her "people" as her "children" once she is near completely infested, making her the Queen. So, if the Zerg genes have been in her the whole time, then all of her efforts would have been to preserve her semi-zerg children and spread her brood throughout the galaxy. Notice how atypically....insane... she sounds when Raynor chooses the other option. So, rather than finding a cure, she could have just injected her "people" with, say, Salene.

Let's be honest, the Raiders are far more suited for dealing with this situation than the protoss. The Raiders can at least do it surgically, while all the protoss can due is blow up the planet. Honestly, the protoss should of just let the Raiders do it; they would be able to surgically deal with it and maybe, just maybe, find a cure. Of course, Starcraft II designed it so that you are right whichever path you chose, morals aside, hence no Zerg other than a few docile infested in Safe Haven.

Yh but you also got the transport, which you can use to pass mountains/others instead of having to do all that way around, that can help avoid THEIR defences. And if you don't like the transport, you can still have the predator (which is also very good), and the mind control tower is just epic. Plus that to make siege tanks faster, you can always just make extra factories. Takes more time, space and minerals, but the result is still the same as Protoss research.

I"m not sure how I feel about that. You have an extremely good point. Then again they might have overlooked something. The High templar/dark templar civil war killed so many protoss before they decided to use some of their advanced intelligence and work together.

For the lead female Protoss of SC2, (correct me if I'm wrong there) Selendis doesn't seem to get enough love. It kind of reminds me of Admiral Daro'Xen vas Moreh from Mass Effect. Don't get me wrong. While Selendis' role here still serves her character justice which heavily impacts the storyline, Xen is still somewhat of an advisor - kind of just there to move the plot along in ME3 - however I still feel as though supporting female leads just don't get enough screen time. And what's not to like about them? I've always found Selendis' to have the most vocal and oddly interesting body language, and Xen just has the most soothing cougar-like voice. I'd stow away on their ships any day...

@xelnaga92 It is not 100% certain that the captain died, if you look in the description about the merc-goliaths they are from the remnants of the UED, so if some of them survived I am willing to bet that the captain will be among them, because if I've learned anything about blizzard is that if it is not explicitly stated that some one is dead, they are not dead and will pop-up at some point.

@xelnaga92 You are incorrect about 2 things. The first is that Matt Horner is not the player character from SC1. It is in fact the colonial magistrate and he can't be Horner because Horner was with Mengsk before the arrival of help to Mar Sara, in fact as far as any one knows that is the first time Matt arrived on Mar Sara. The second thing is that the UED captain was killed at the end of the Zerg campaign not the Terran one, and even that is uncertain.

The dominion would have her work in their labs. To me, if neither the dominion or the Protoss said it could be cured, then I don't see how just one person could find a cure.

the Protoss however managed to deinfest Stukov but that's because his infestation process to a capabale Zerg leader wasn't complete yet (he was however already fully infested) though the results are yet to be seen (yup that dude IS alive play downloadable missions Deception, Mercenaries II and Resurrection IV in that order) and the real problem isn't finding a cure that works can be fast or spread efficiently it's a cure that also should adapt to the various mutations of that virus

Maybe it doesn't seem appropriate for Raynor's characters, but completely happy ends doesn't fit the starcraft universe either. Honestly, if the protoss like Selendis say it is the only solution (which are the nicest protoss), it sounds to me that it is. They know much more than Ariel. Plus if a cure exist, it makes the infestation feel a lot less terrible and threatening.

The only thing I hope for right now except that Heart of the Swarm release soon, is that Blizzard learn from Bioware and make it so the choices you chose in WOL carry over to the next game like Mass Effect. I would love to see what happen to the colonist if we save them. Is Ariel success in finding a cure or not. And if chose to help Selendis maybe when Jim run into her again she may show her "personal admiration and gratitude"(better hope Kerrigan isn't there) Then there're Tosh and Nova too

That wasn't deinfestation, it only kept it at bay, not cured it permanently, if memory serves. Also, Raynor was present when that happened, so it is possible that the content of those missions got retconned, given his reaction to the notion of a cure (or rather a lack thereof), and Selendis' (who should probably know about it as the Executor). Then again, HotS will probably sort this topic out, so while I appriciate a good debate, I don't think there's any point in it. Merry X-mas by the way.:D

@gxycybro oh ok, but I was meaning that the doctor wanted to find that cure and James wished to have Kerrigan back (for example if you'd chose the Protosses here and the doctor would die, I thought that the cure would have less chances to be made) also that doctor wouldn't be more determined to find that cure if she'd lost her colonists also doctor had to have some "mices" to check the cure samples on - infected colonists (maybe))

Ok. There seem to be talk about player character in Starcraft 1. So I'll list what I know. Starcraft Terran- Matt Horner Zerg- 2 cerebrate. 1 was create to watch over Kerrigan and got kill by Zeratul when Kerrigan hunt the Protoss on Char. 2 follow the Overmind to Aiur and properly kill during the Protoss final attack. Protoss- Artanis Broodwar Protoss- Selendis Terran- captain of the UED. Kill at the end of terran campaign by zerg swamp Zerg- cerebrate. Properly still alive by Kerrigan side

@xelnaga92 Heart of the Swarm will follow the "a" canon of the story meaning you save the colonists and help Tosh. However they're trying to make it seem like the "b" canon somewhat happened. From what I hear Tosh won't even be showing up but the prisoners of New Folsom would still be broken out so that Matt could still make his better future. Also the colonists on Haven will survive but the Protoss still have their respect for Raynor. That's what I hear but things can change in development

In both A and B you save the colonist. Guys did you played this mission? Is literally about killing tje infested thus the ones without hope of salvation but saving and helping the not infested people!!!! You ALWAYS save them, but in "a" you literally doomed them (no cure can stop zerg mutations, they are worst than cancer) in "b" you stopped the infestation completely by fire, selendis is totally right here

So yeah UED captain was kill in the Zerg campaign. But I'm sure he dead because in the Epilogue it is said the whole UED Fleet was wipe out by the the Zerg and not a single ship survive. I really don't get why Hanson seems to think she can do something that the Protoss couldn't. They've been at this for centuries, have tried to find a cure countless times, and have been unable to do so. I mean, jesus, the protoss lost their homeworld because they lacked an efficient way to combat the swarm, but they still kept their sanity and went on. Hanson is spazzing out about the colonists, but she was more than fine with it when you were on Meinhoff.

it's such a difficult choice... to keep good relationship with Protosses (don't know for how long though), or try and help those who are to being killed and who doesn't have a chance if you won't try to help them...also it's James' wish to find Kerrigan and maybe that cure would help her be back to human form...of course if it is to be found (the cure)
