I think Zerg is not easy race to ballance. The problem is production infrastructure for zerg costs nothing compared to other races. Their economy is their production, where us for other races developing production infrastrucutre in all directions is very expensive. May be if units would cost larva proportional to their supply in would improve things. Infestor and Viper have also so much utility against deathballs and solo units that it is difficult to ballance against everything else.

Starcraft is a completely deterministic game( I don't think there are RNG elements in it ) So what replays are, and why they take so little space, is because they record only the orders/actions of the players. A repay game is just a completely new game with the recorded actions of the replay file inputed into the new game. So technically, no position is recorded appart from that of the camera, but not that of the small carrier ships for instance! TL;DR: no, small carrier ship's position are not recorded.

Enthusiastic newbie here. Great cast, and I have a few comments for those who'd like to discuss: These two late game armies showcase what I think is problematic with the current game. 1 - Skytoss. In Lowko's own words, he's never seen this composition of Skytoss beaten at this stage of the game before. Despite his claim that optimising Skytoss is very difficult, my observation is that even low ranked ladder players will win with this composition 99.99% of the time, by simply a-moving. If that is the case, then I would argue that there is clearly a balance issue. If players of equal rank are fighting then it is inherently disfunctional for one to win simply because of a composition that is almost uncounterable by all but the best players. We've all been there - Each side having maxed out armies, but the Skytoss blob wins, hands down. 2 - Broodlords spawning free units. The ability to create FREE units makes no sense to me. Especially when they're effective at killing all ground units at any stage of the game. This creates a value imbalance. Do these points have validity? Of course, the standard reply to me could just be, "get good", but, perhaps I speak for the overwhelming majority of casual SC players here; We're never going to get to Master/GM, but does that mean these concerns are weightless? After all, surely 90% of all SC players throughout history occupy Diamond and below, and would therefore be unlikely to have the skill to beat these compositions? My overall point being - surely a truly balanced RTS game means that there shouldn't be game-winning compositions, and even newbies should have a balanced chance of beating any compositions if facing an equally skilled opponent.
@ryanaegis35443 жыл бұрын
I think what you say is fair. I play toss, so am a little biased towards them. I don't mind broodlings not costing anything but time; I wish interceptors were the same way. Interceptors are the only disposable unit in the game that sucks your bank dry. Perhaps Interceptors should have a fuel tank and crash and life span like swarm hosts and broodlings so they do not cost anything but time to build yet cannot fly forever. My biggest issues against zerg are the remax time, and the spells/spell casters. Infestors have been extremely overpowered before, and I think are still overpowered, as you can see again in this game, a half dozen infestors chasing away a dozen zealots with fungals. No spell caster that powerful should be able to stand on its own. And fungal and parasytic bomb are both overpowered versions of storm, sticking to the units they hit, and stackable, unlike storm. I don't hink fungal and parasytic bomb need to be nerfed as much as i think storm needs to be improved. And either templar need more dps or they need feedback to kill; they are just to fragile and storm too weak to merit building them. And remaxing, stockpiling larva and almost instantly remaking an entire army, even a weaker one like all cracklings, or hydras, easily overwhelms slower producing armies like Protoss and especially Terrans. Zerg tends to max out its army and economy much faster than Terran or Toss, and thereafter are banking larva and resources for an instant remax; it seems like for every two armies a different race can make, a zerg can field three, so as long as the macroeconomics are optimized, Zerg seems unbeatable. Corruptors are the hardest hitting and tankiest air units in the game, and Hydras wreck carriers and voidrays, so I have a hard time understanding how Zerg looses to an A-moved deathball. Sure, you will lose units in the fight, but build more while losing them, and you will have units to fight with while the protoss will not. Or base trade. Build a bunch of cracklings, circumvent the scary army, and wreck your opponents bases. Carriers are far too slow to defend everywhere at once. I also feel like Zerg has far more possible roads to victory beyond cheeses and all ins. Protoss has two: Archon Immortal Zealot or Carrier deathball. Zergs have so many effective options and combinations of options to field, but Protoss is demanding in that each unit is so expensive (resources and supply wise) so you have to build the perfect combination to be effective. And then there is the slow thing again, enemies can just circumvent you. Terran may have it the worst though, as they have flexibility and speed, but their units cannot be instantly created, so they get caught be inefficient like zergs yet cannot recover.
@dawislv3 жыл бұрын
I would agree. With low micro skills protos desthball would almost always win. When microed correctly it seems that Zerg will always come ahead of skytoss, since with their abduct they can kill any strategically important unit that is not clumped up with rest of the group, but if their are all clumped up then fungals and parasitic bombs can destroy them. These mass dmg/ crowd control spells just seems much superior to what storms can do. I am waiting when AI will be at pro level because I am curious to see how AI will utilize Zerg. I think if played correctly Zerg should always win late game.

Can someone answer me: If Zerg is considered underpowered late-late game, why hasn't this been patched and balanced?
@R4tmax3 жыл бұрын
One possible reason: Ultra late games tend to be somewhat less traveled roads and it is hard to create a meaningful change that is specific to the late game. (You have less data points to look into, and your change might hit some other unintended aspects of the match-up, etc.) Another possible reason: Balance team was OK with ZvP dynamic being this way. It is hard, probably even impossible to balance asymetrical mechanics of the game equally across the three races and all stages of the game.

12:00 this is very commonly used in brood war zvp. You can randomly send 12 lords towards his gates. Now he has to guess if they are full or not. If they are empty, but he guesses wrong and sends his templars to deal with the drops, you hit his natural with lings and set up defiler lurker on his rally point. If he calls your bluff, nothing happens, the lords just fly out. If ofc, if they are full, but he doesn't react, he loses his production and the game. The only way to deal with this nonsense for a toss is to constantly sacrifice observers or random zealots to keep track of the zerg army until you have enough reavers to contest the late game army and actually take the fight to the zerg. Or, if you are playing online and he can't punch you in the face, storm drops.

You were asking if interceptors were making the replay files bigger since more units are present, but as far as I know, SC2 Replay files are so small because it only records player actions and game state (how many units have been built and have been lost, player A clicked 6 times on position X/Y, unit 67 moved to postion X/Y), and SC2 just remakes the game on the replay screen as if it was played for the first time. kind of like reading the score sheet of a chess game, with more steps and complexity. TL:DR : replay file size is linked to how many actions players did, not how many units are in game.

7 YEARS of Zerg dominating every late game, followed by a half year of losing, and Zergs are saying "Finally!, vindication!" Makes me sick. I don't watch every SCII match everyday, but I cannot remember seeing Toss win a late game ZvP in the last three years, so no, Lowko, I do not sympathize with you. The hate Terrans and Toss have for Zerg is not happenstance. It comes from thousands of missbalanced, Zerg favored, matches. Zerg has the ultimate remax ability, often meaning they can have an entire new army in seconds, and another a few seconds later. And as we see here, the moveable "static" defense, the creep speed and vision boosts, and stackable, stick to the enemy spells in fungal and parasitic bomb. People act like storm is oh so scary , but storm doesn't stack, nor does it stick to the unit it hits. All you have to do is walk out of it. And with late game armor upgrades, storm kills almost nothing. Infestors are still OP, as shown here by groups of them roaming the map and driving off groups of zealots. No unit that powerful should be able to defend itself without any other unit helping it. Imagine if Templar moved three times as fast, were invisible, and could cast spells as powerful as fungal: that would be OP. But make it an ugly slug and suddenly it's okay. Feedback needs to go back to killing. And storm should be upgradeable to suck units it hits to it's center before allowing them to try to escape. Templar are Toss's best spell casters, but even saying that is depressing, and they are nothing but fodder late game.

Transition to ground for Protoss was a mistake. Probably should have made more carriers and tempests.
@jkz123pl3 жыл бұрын
With what money? And when? - when the fight was going on he reinforced with a lot of stalkers because they can be warped in instantly and there was no time to build anything else. If the stalkers weren't there he would have lost at this point. - after the fight he had very little resources, and most of it was gas. So he spent it on units that cos a lot of gas. If he tried building different units than archons with it he would have probably end the game with 3 - 4 k gas in the bank, not 1.5 k.
@thuggeegaming6593 жыл бұрын
@@jkz123pl I already told you when. When he made the transition to ground after his air army was destroyed. Even the announcers spotted the transition as a possible mistake as they would be countered quite easily by guardians followed up by lings, as the zerg player had a ton of minerals in the bank. I don't have a major problem with the stalker warp in, but the archons probably weren't a good idea. Ofc it could be the case that there was no coming back from that loss. The fungal hits hamstrung his army too much.
@ryanaegis35443 жыл бұрын
@@thuggeegaming659 I think jkz123pl meant with what time, not when. Skytoss, especially carriers and a mothership, take a very long time to build. Warping in at that moment was not a strategic transition to ground, no matter what the "profesional casters" said, but a delaying action to try to buy time to rebuild a good army. It succeeded in delaying, but also cost too much, so Showtime didn't have enough money left to build back up a skytoss ball, and opted instead to see if he could beat the brood lords and corruptors with blink stalkers and archons, but that failed too. And even if it had succeeded, we would have seen a third remax from Solar of Hydra Ling Bane, or possibly just a couple hundred cracklings, and either would have cleared the gateway units off the map easily. And even if it hadn't, Solar would have had another remax of just cracklings to close out the game. Showtime's best case scenario at that point may have been winning the battle with the initial stalker warp in followed by a mass zealot warp in into a base trade, with hopefully one voidray and no corruptors left alive to gaurantee the win. Best case scenario.
@thuggeegaming6593 жыл бұрын
@@ryanaegis3544 I still don't understand what distinction you're making with what time and when, but it doesn't matter because you understand when I'm referring to. It was a transition to ground, whether it was intentional or not. He made the right decision to warp in stalkers to delay the zerg player's advance, but making archons definitely was a mistake. If you want a "when", then that probably should have been when he should have made more air units. I agree, capital ships would have taken a long time to make. Either he should have made something other than archons, or you are suggesting that at that moment, there was objectively nothing he could have done to win the game. I'm not sure I believe that's true. What we do know is that what he did at that crucial moment, didn't work.

When Zerg complain about Protoss being OP... Do you remember Heart of the swarm? 3 years of consistent Zerg dominance.

Now imagine if protoss was given seigh tanks too 😂😂😂
@emlen58473 жыл бұрын
Protoss is already strong enough without it why would they add that?
@ryanaegis35443 жыл бұрын
Give Tempests a researchable upgrade to enter splash damage mode and there you go. Change the the quake upgrade to be a selectable mode as well, a la Thors, and voila, Tempests would actually be worth getting in any game.

@@ryanaegis3544 that would make late game zerg even more mediocre

@@emlen5847 Mediocre? Sky Zerg is the strongest in the game, zerg spell casters are the best in the game, the whole army heals over time, the vipers can speed up their recharge by consuming, spells stick and stack, observers and transports don't cost energy or supply, all ground units can become invisible at will and teleport through a nydus, and, to top it all off, larva can be banked, so the entire army can die and an entire new one made twice as fast as the other races. Mediocre?
@emlen58473 жыл бұрын
@@ryanaegis3544 4 vipers take off more than half the health of a hatchery while being negated by interferance matrix and the one skill the high templar uses, protoss can regenerate sheilds, terran bio has a healer hatchery larva has to be mannually generated (hard in lategame with all the shit thats going on) nydus costs lots of resources and takes a long time to build and pop out, burrow limits units from moving and attacking, overlords costs minerals too and they cant become invisible

This wasn't a protoss death ball it's a protoss turtle ball.

40+ minutes on one game? this will end up with air toss vs a spore forest with neither side able to move, wont it?

Showtime totally deserved to lose, instead of just throwing away units he thinks he does not need anymore he should try to utilize them one last time. Instead of walking them into the Zerg army he could have the probes try to steal minerals or scout, the Immortals could have tried to destroy static defense or even hatcheries or tech structures. Showtime also had his fleet next to the hatchery on the middle right and did not even attack it for a long long time, instead allowing Solar to mine from it.

Seems like Protoss is not that busted at all, Protoss had winrates below 50% at IEM too. Would actually enjoy a little less balance talk from time to time.

Zerg late game never wins against skytoss? Well for me it seems in all games that go there top level Zerg actually wins. Sure the might be few players that can pull it off, but it seems to me wheb played right Zerg just wins in that scenario. Solar just waited for one mistake where he can capitalize on with good fungal and from that point onward it's very difficult for protos to come back in the game.

how impossibly rare this is goes to show how Protoss might potentially (fucking absolutely) be imbalanced in this matchup

I rewatched the counter for time and it seems that it adds an hour at 42:51, I don't quite get the importance of this exact time, maybe someone else can work it out. that' 2571 seconds into the replay. So there you go Lowko and other nerds.. just under 43 mins. Maybe it's something that blizzard can explain.
@namarien3 жыл бұрын
IIRC, blizzard has a weird internal time representation that doesnt match seconds.
