2:47 I tend to disagree. This is the game that taught me that defeat is inevitable, victory merely a dream in the mind of he who wants it. That there is no shame in defeat, so long as the spirit is unconquered. This is the game I look to everytime life beats me one day, to keep going, to fight, to see it through. This game has more life lessons than can be counted, along with Warcraft. If nothing else, it teaches point of view. How one insignificant thing to one culture can be the utter end of another. How different people approach different situations, and the consequences following their actions. It shows just how bad humans can be in their prime, and how good aliens could be, so long as we allow them to show their merit.

Seconded. Though i always thought Starcraft was better at it than Warcraft, probably because Starcraft in its cynicism didn't always fix everything in the end or play bad stuff off as some "grand tragedy". If someone dies they tended to die suddenly, and then that's it. If a faction is defeated they don't just disappear, they fall back and grit their teeth and start trying to figure out how to put the pieces back together. I think its more true to life like that.

Sigh... this mission, now looking back, gives me such mixed feelings. Back when BW first came out and people found this level, the sheer variety of story implications were huge - Zerg/Protoss Hybrids?! Uh oh! That can't be good! People spent so much time over the 10ish years between it and SC2 theorizing what these hybrids were all about, what they looked like (even creating mock-ups or their own in-game sprites, some of which ended up being way cooler than the actual hybrids). Likewise, there were all sorts of discussions about who Duran really was, who he served, and what their ultimate agenda was... And SC2 was just a huge letdown on that front (well, and many others, but for the sake of this mission, this is the one I'll talk about). I cannot adequately express how disappointed I was about the identity of Amon, essentially SPESS DIABLO, and how he was coming to wipe out all of creation, plunging it into eternal darkness. That's just so... one note and _lame_ that I just can't accept it. What they did with Duran in SC2... eh, I guess that was one of the more interesting points, with him taking on another form with a very on-the-nose name flip, but the way his sub-plot played out in HotS and again in LotV didn't feel very satisfying, especially since he basically _was_ a Xel'Naga (and don't even get me started on _them_ ).

Agreed. When I first unlocked this at age 12 or whatever I was this legit creeped out during at the end of this mission. It ended the Brood War story on a haunting note consistent with the tone of the game. Then the tone of LotV was so bombastic and operatic that it felt out of place. If it hadn't taken so long for SC2 to develop maybe we would not have been so letdown. Blizzard changed so much as a company between the games.

0:00 Wait a minute, why the victory screen in Reckoning is so strange? No Zerg Swarm, No UED, but Clandestine Mercenaries from Dark Origin, and Zerg icon for player? Victory screen from your previous Reckoning video is very different (as well as Dark Origin victory screen in the end of video).

It still very strange why there are force names from Dark Origin. I don't recall any bugs like that in original, probably that's Remastered stuff.

If you kill all the ursadons you spawn a broodling that doesn't run out of energy at that corpse, the script was labelled something along the lines of stomach parasite if I recall. EDIT: Just went and checked it wasn't some weird fever dream ages ago, it's there.
