I think one of the most important parts would be materials. Yes, you need tools, but you need something to use them on. In Eu at least, it's hard to find good silver/gold online. Nice video! 👍

Is there a cheaper option for a multipurpose steel anvil you can recommend? I want to use it for bracelets and for concave/ convex attachment.. Or is the best bet to go with a wood option for shaping bracelets?

Great to see again with your undersized pencil! Hope you are OK in Poland, SAFE. Yes to alternatives, and hunt around, I am getting there. Much Love....Arohanui..

Haha, it's my favourite pencil! 😁 I'm ok and my family is too. Luckily we weren't affected much by the floods this time. The previous one, in June, did reach my family's house and water got into the basement. Hopefully, this time it won't happen again. But seeing other areas in Poland is really sad and horrifying. Thank you for your kind words, sending love ❤️

Generally speaking in the UK we usually say either goldsmith for someone who works on very fine jewellery using golf of platinum. Jeweller usually covers every kind of less expensive jewellery. Silversmiths make bigger items from precious metals. Such as domestic items and ceremonial work. We very rarely use the word metalsmithing

It should be gold above not golf!

The most expensive thing about silversmithing is probably not the tools, but the rent for the studio you need. After all, you can't do silversmithimg in your own apartment.
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing3 ай бұрын
I don't know where you're based, maybe you can't do silversmithing there, but in Poland, UK and States you can totally do it at home. I moved from the UK to Poland three years ago and I was renting a separate workshop up until August this year. I hated it and it was indeed very costly. So now I moved my workshop back home and I'm happier than ever 🥰

@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing but isn't it dangerous? You work with fire after all.
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing3 ай бұрын
@@evelinepeterhans4873 it's a very small flame. And the soldering station is properly set up with the fire resistant surfaces. The flame is always being directed only at the soldering surface. And right next to my bench is a fire extinguisher 👍 There are safety tips and procedures that if followed, nothing bad is going to happen. Working with a small butane torch, which you carefully operate and control doesn't pose any more of a risk than keeping lit candles
@o0superflu0o3 ай бұрын
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing A fire extinguisher was the one thing I was missing from this otherwise comprehensive list. Compiling it and looking up all the prices as well as alternatives must have taken ages. I wish I had had something like this in the beginning!

Why do Americans call it metalsmithing instead of silversmithing or goldsmithing or jewellery making?
@GeorgeLCostnza3 ай бұрын
Who says they do? Basia is obviously Polish.
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing3 ай бұрын
I'm Polish 👍 And when I used "silversmithing" more regularly in the past, some people kept asking me why I use this term and not "jewelry metalsmithing" which apparently would've been more appropriate in this context 😁 That's why now I use all of these terms interchangeably, even if they mean slightly different things. I don't use "goldsmithing" too often, because most people don't work with gold and I haven't been using much gold in my tutorials. I'm trying to use the terms that would be the most accurate and reflect the content I share.

😂 why do you guys find any reason to "other" Americans. Does she sound American to you?
@oldleatherhandsfriends405327 күн бұрын
Well considering the many different accents and dialects in the US plus she could be an American who grew up with foreign born parents in another country. So yeah she does sound American.
