Modders are the reason Bethesda won't use a different engine. They push out a half baked messes they don't know how to finish, then sit back and collect sales while the power of outsourced free labor do their jobs for them. They sell overpriced platforms, not games. I love the idea of being able to mod a game, but there's a clear difference in modding an already good game from modding a Bethesda game. Good games don't usually need mods. Bethesda games pretty much require them.

The moment Bethesda uses a different engine the whole modding scene is dead... What don't you people get lol. Yes I agree Bethesda needs to stop half assing some things in their games but when that Engine changes, you won't see mods for that Bethesda title with a new engine for years if Bethesda even makes modding tools for it. Then what? No more amazing mods in these worlds Bethesda created and they're just a generic RPG studio. Even if a Bethesda game was perfect mods are still going to be wanted by the community, especially when you can basically make whole new games out of them.
@WatchMysh Жыл бұрын
@@MrBoxen good point. People are used to mod the creation engine, yes. But it's a double edged blade. What use are mods if the base game itself can't keep up with the competition anymore? Seamless worlds will become a standard at some point which the CE doesnt seem capable of. Starfield just barely keeps up nowadays. I see a tougher market situation in 2026+ when ES6 is planned to launch. At some point you have to replace your old tech. Or you gamble to run in nostalgia forever - which Starfield already does partially.

@WatchMysh base game vs base engine are a fine line i suppose of where the fault lies..or the solution to what can be done. or how the modifed it. dcs uses the same base engine from 20+ years ago but they totally rewrote the parts needed to "modernize" it.(and its still ongoing) unreal? lol go look at the code, you find code from 2010 in it... "engines" take massive amoutns of time, and you can't really just "grab an off the shelf one, unity is very sammy, its limited in what it can do, smae with unreal etc. your choices are do a overall of the engine, or rewrite a new one. which takes 4-8 years. ,, as for the game, the game is just assets and scripts onto of the engine. so if its medicoeir then moders who can buiild models, scrips and stories. can utilzies the underline upgraded engine for things. the issue of loading screens, and how this engine handles data. is clearly outdated, and not very good. and should have been adressed. but likly would have delayed the game by 2-3 years. this ofcourse might not scale with their revune needs. people need to be paid. as you say duble edge blade. theirs not much you can do. they have to keep relaseing products well hopefully being able to shift enough resoueces into ether upgrading or building a new engine. and mabye in 2+ years. they can get ride of alot of the load screens in their next games. mabye they can write a brand new engine in bevy on rust, and have a crazzy good engine but it take 6 years to get a new game out. that can take advatage of it.

I fundamentally just dont feel like anything exists anywhere because I never feel like im actually travelling. My ship is more like a magic door takes me anywhere with enough loading screens... I never need to physically move my ship to get anywhere, which makes my ship feel worthless. I think X3 terrain conflict had a great solution for this; space would be split into cells and for each cell youd have to physically fly your ship from one warp gate to another.. I meant that location still mattered and that flying your ship was a big part of the experience.. It also meant that each cell of space could have a memorable layout since youd always enter and exit at the same points Edit: Was writing my comment half way through the video, you summed it up very well.

@BlazeMakesGames11 ай бұрын
The biggest thing for me is that they should have just tried to hide the loading screens. I understand if they can't figure out how to make everything 100% seemless, but surely if the ship needs to be loaded on both ends of a trip, you could simply let the player wander around their ship while the game is loading instead of cutting to a cutscene and then fading to black. That one change would have made the game feel a lot more immersive and fun and actually give you a reason to do stuff on your ship.

30fps didn't bother me, graphics were fine, pronouns..? don't care but those loading screens, they are terrible. I just couldn't immerse myself for longer than 10 minutes 😅

Same. Graphics are okay etc... but those loading screens continue to bother me even after 60h in.

Honestly it feels like one of those things once people start to nitpick it ruins the game for themselves. A lot of these black screens aren't even loading screens it's just a way the game transitions from one area to another without clunky/time consuming animations. So many games do this

@@Mike-sf7ex Doesn't matter if the screens are loading sth or not. They pull some people out of the immersion and that's not nitpicking but just how it is. I'd be happy if it wouldn't apply to me - but it does. And yes: many other games also do this. But not as often and mostly not after a decade of development and 400 million dollars of budget. It's again not nitpicky - most people just apply other standards to established companies considering themselves AAA developers.

@@WatchMysh there is so much more to immersion than just seamlessness. Half life 1 and 2 for instance had loading pauses every 2 minutes yet are some of the most immersive games ever created. Meanwhile No Man's Sky despite being more seamless has absolutely zero immersion because there is a severe lack of world building and everything feeling insignificant. Honestly I feel sorry for anyone who gets so triggered by a black screen that they can't focus and enjoy whatever it is they're doing in the game.

@@Mike-sf7ex Of course there's more to immersion. But it's the thing that kills my immersion the most in this specific case. HL1 and 2 were good for the time they were released. Today I also wouldn't let the constant loading slip. The loading screens in Starfield represent a bigger picture of fragmented gameplay. No one is "triggered" here. We just are different people with different perception. It's fine that you're okay with this gameplay interruption. Other people aren't and the "just a black screen" is a) measurable and b) valid. I personally could look past the constant loading if the rest of the game would be my taste or up to standards. But for my standards and taste it isn't. I'm not a fan of NMS also. It manages mostly seamless transitiond but the rest is just meh-ish. Interface is bad and the universe is vast but also static in the end. Another mediocre game we play because there isn't any really meaningful competition in this specific niche.
