I had a great time today exploring locations outside New Atlantis I had never seen before. With sustenance I've already farmed huge stocks of the 3 ingredients for the simplest diet of distilled water and alien jerky. That just needs water, membrane and nutrient.

This update is so good! I see things I have never seen before thanks to the surface maps, and the ability to finetune my gameplay settings makes everything even better. I love this game and now I love it even more 🙂

The difference I'm seeing is that if I'm inside a poi, like Trade Authority in Akila, I can't open the surface map until I go outside. It's still a huge improvement.

Yes, still some odd variations getting to the map at all. My new 'survival character' goes directly to the surface map when in Akila City (one key/one step). Haven't spent time trying to chase it down just because it's still all "better". :)

Another cool thing about surface maps is the ability to fast travel directly to your ship while you're looking at the map. 'R' for PCs.

I found the best place to get weapons at the start of the game is Vlads VIlla on Smyrna 7a. There will be an Advanced Kodoma and an Advanced Magshot Mutineer. Plus at least 3 random spawns and a 2% discount mag. I got a rare Advanced Beowolf at my start yesterday. Stormriders tend to spawn in this system as an added bonus. Then I move to Celebrai 2 and build an outpost in the Savanah with a shipbuilder. There are good templates on this planet. It's level 70, just north of Kryx, and the Alien hunting is huge XP farming.

The sustenance settings are cool and all, I actually chose Beast Hunter for a new play thru for the Gastronomy. But the one thing that's def needed immediately is a countdown timer on the HUD for food/hydration. I'm constantly having to manually check my status to make sure the timers don't run out when I'm least expecting it. I mean seriously, irl you know when you're hungry or thirsty. Add: I also noticed a couple counter balances in the new settings options. The first is the carry capacity and the Cargo Access Distance, reducing carry cap and give weighted ammo while anywhere cargo access. And while its not an actual xp gain, it seems that changing the combat settings to very easy would result in a higher xp over time than running them on Hard or Extreme. Just sayin'.

I briefly tried time the rate of beeps on the HUD for environmental. It's a basic indicator at best. ;) "What an opportunity for future improvement.", he said with tempered optimism.

You can add more difficulty if you use the mod that doubles the enemy numbers (helps exp boost a lot).

In Akila, Shepards general store is blank, galbank, aggies in the stretch is unmarked. They have Security cameras in every store, they should send bounty hunters after you if you steal from the store. Skyrim did this, no cameras in Skyrim.

Yes! When you arrive on the Guardian in an NG+ the customization screen opens automatically. Can't miss it.

I suspect Bethesda might alter the ship tables depending on where you are in the main quest, i.e. have you encountered the Hunter, are you still collecting artifacts? For low level characters, never any Starborn ships. This makes sense as they haven't really encounted any Starborn at all. I have a level 103 that's not NG+ and he does encounter Starborn Guardians at his ship landing sites (sometimes). At his stage of the game, the Starborn are still supposed to chase you down for the Artifacts. In NG+ after defeating the Starborn at Masada, I see nothing again. Regarding the 'fly aways', I spawned 50+ ships recently in a test (video link below). On one moon, I had three Crimson Fleet Wights land and then take off before I could get to them. I went to a nearby moon and set up the same operation and one landed quickly and I grabbed it. They seem to be giving players more control over time. I never really had an issue with POIs based on the same design. Every Walmart, McDonalds, Dunkin, or other franchise I see IRL is virtually identical so that didn't bother me. Humans actually like familiarity. Even the menus are the same and that seems popular. Since this IS a game and should engage, I would like to see the interior loot and enemy locations randomized. Give me a chance of being ambushed by a Legendary (or two) in a different area. They have time to fix that (if they choose). :) Thanks for watching.

This update really highlights how Barebones the development was and how they obviously chinced on features in development. Its missing more cut features from other games than features from other games they included. [Edit: fallout 76 has more features and accessibility than starfield.. fallout 76.. ] The tile size and POI problem really needs improving, i dont think vehicles will cut it.

Agree, I don't think vehicles are the answer to much really. I remember that dance in Elite Dangerous. I have a lot of vehicles in NMS. I give them a lot of credit for what IS there, but absolutely see places where people (humans: product/feature managers, software developers, financial mgmt., etc.) made trade-offs and effectively said, "We'll have to launch without A,B, or C or delay." It is what it is. When I think about what has happened to BGS and the world in the last few years, I can excuse quite bit in trade for handing me a game I could play in September of 2023. I'm personally OK with the trade-offs. I try to temper my expectations, but will also admit I have 'high hopes' for the future.

I kind of wish they would have just loaded you into the building or given the option to, if you fast travel to the location on the map. Rather than enduring another load screen.

New features are great. Are they going to fix all the stuff that got broke in the process. So far my list includes partially rendered or completely invisible ship parts, floating trees around every city I go to, and not being able to work on commandeered ships and only having the option to sell them. There's probably more but I got tired of guessing where my ship weapons and reactors were and gave up.

They seem very hit-or-miss on fixes that will correct bugs previously triggered. The shield bug is the primary example for me. I have old saves, expensive custom built ships that are bugged. I'm on PC so I can use the console to fix, but Xbox players seem to be in a "forward through the Unity" situation. I have had several tell me about duplicating ships as a work around. These days, I throw ships away and steal new ones.

Sadly, though standing by the elevator near Jemeson mercantile discovers The Well, the still have not fixed the bug that renders elevators inoperable, so you have to go the long way around. And I have set the impact of the environment to none, because the beeps drive me crazy...

I do see a November 2023 bug in their discord about the elevator in that area. I almost hate to even suggest (or ask), but have you been through the Unity? (that strongly implies I have few suggestions). :( It's been months, but there were bugs for me that even if fixed later were never fixed in an existing save. I gave in and eventually left all my outposts and ships behind and plunged into the giant glowy mystery.

does the Legendary equipment farm exploit still exist? change difficalty to very hard then load into enemy area then switch deifficalty back to prefered all for a greater chance of Legendary gear with the changes to the difficulty settings?

I haven't tested, but I understood the difficult settings to primarily effect the spawn of enemies. The higher level enemies would give better drops. I'm not saying it might not work that way, but I've just not tested for 30-40 cycles.

I tested the shield issue and it did not trigger again. That said, they tend not to fix broken saves so I have other characters with [expensive/custom built] ships that have been bugged. On Xbox this is a dead end for that ship. On PC, console commands used to work to fix. Still an unfortunate workaround, but why these days I often throw away ships and steal more. That, too, is a workaround.

Before this patch, I did a fair amount of testing on the shield bug and how it triggered. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4DXhKaHgLpkhassi=H3aR7w_85OUCZ-kv When triggered, the effect was specific to the ship you were using at the time. Once triggered, it didn't go away ever after the patch. On PC, you could use a console command to set a variable, but people reported odd results. It looked good, could be triggered again. So the PC fix was temporary unless you managed to never trigger it again. At this point, BGS said in the May Update they patched a shield bug. They way they described it was a little wishy-washy and implied the lowered shield value was just an appearance. My shield value on a Claymore III was 900 and should have been 2880. In combat, enemies took out my shield in seconds. It seemed more like a real value change than an appearance. So who really knows what BGS did in the recent update? :)

@kineer I ended up cranking out another new game plus just because I couldn't get comspike again since I went UC and it seems it isn't triggering anymore. Just annoying I had to new game plus just to get comspike again. Now I have an elevator bug in new Atlantis lol if it's not one thing it's another 🙃

Being able to add furniture and other items to your ship is a very nice touch. As an Xbox player, however, I immediately noted what they still have not addressed since September - - game-ending "glitches." The Jade Swan remains submerged in the concrete so there is literally no way to progress in the Crimson Fleet questline. Complete crashes to the start screen continue. Frozen save screens continue. Temples still do not populate and dropped loot is still garbage. (I am level 114 playing on "very hard" and enemies of systems 60 and higher are still dropping garbage Equinox and Grendel weapons.) Personally, I do not need a map to tell me that planets are devoid of content. It is nice, however, that they included maps for the few cities that exist on their 1000+ moons and planets. That seems like it would be helpful for many players. Nobody should be fooled by the frame rate claim, though. It is simply inaccurate/not true.

Are you in NG+ or when was your last trip through the Unity? There are bugs they are not trying to fix in existing saves. There seem to be a lot of Jade Swan issues too.

The ships screen is just a little odd at times I had a ship stats screen buttons locking out on a new stolen ship I had in space after I pressed make home ship on it after a couple save recoups I was able to undock the new stolen ship and then kinda chase after my main stacked ship and still home ship back to my main it my just require a little more chasing than before this fifteenth update I had this occur once on series x and it was directly after I had switched to a high cargo ship I found way easier on the surface of Kumari IV so it might of be me doing surface of planet ship shenanigans right before going to the orbit of K IV and trying to steal the best spacer ship I found from a quest on K IV to kill the 4 spacers in orbit so it might of been me just making it that weird with the with the clear the spacers from orbit quest active hopefully that's what it was and not Bethesda trying to cancel more "fun"

So much of the game's state seems to reflect issues outside the game. The global emergency followed by their own acquisition seemed to wreck their schedules. I can envision a small army of accountants, finance people, and product managers eventually reaching the "It has to ship without A,B,C" moment. So we have what we have. I'm still enjoying it, but I keep my expectations tempered on many levels. I'm also an old-school D&D guy so inventing elements and making a game out of framework/scaffolding hasn't been a stretch. They will 'catch up' eventually. I'm optimistic it will be another redemption story someday. People dig that. Thanks for watching!

I've found loading screens are offset largely through use of fast travel options with a few unavoidable exceptions. I rarely notice loading screens, but when I do it's because I do something like walk into UC Surplus in the Well (by just opening a door and walking in). In a strange sense, that means I notice (and am pleasantly surprised) when they are absent. A load screen for Sieghart's seems unnecessary from a complexity standpoint. His shop should be like the UC Surplus in the Well. Open door, walk in. I am hopeful they will migrate various POIs into their surrounding cities over time. I suspect they had a list at launch time of locations that didn't the cut for schedule reasons. As an alternative I am hopeful someday they may add a fast travel option from surface/local maps that puts you inside the building, e.g. arrive inside the Trade Authority in Akila City instead of standing outside and having to open another door. I am OK with a brief loading screen for fast travel. It makes sense to me.
