Hey all! This is an updated video with some more clarification about Starfield NG+ and hopefully answers some of the common questions I was receiving from the last video. As a note, I forgot to mention it but also understand your SKILLS also transfer between NG+s (so you're constantly gaining more skills, higher level, etc). Thanks all! 😁

Also don't forget that when doing ng+ when you go past 10 you start getting duped powers which means you won't be able to get all powers maxed until around NG+30 and I think that is very important knowledge that people really need to be aware of.

Excellent video. I’m a big Skyrim fan and love exploring every inch of a game. I’ve been on the fence on whether to continue with ng+. I’m about 80 hours in and most of the way through the main story. You answered my questions brilliantly. I will continue as I am and save ng+ for a to be determined much later day. In a way, thats your story. Beeing to goal oriented, listening too others to much. And in the end you regreted not living your life your way. That empty feeling, not giving an inprint on the world you left because you were chasing something you did not know. In your "next" life, what will you do diffrent. When yo look at it that way, maybe it was the story of your character realising what he missed by chasing rainbows.

At the end of quite an expansive first playthrough or 'sandbox' as you called it, having done all the faction lines and a bunch of fun sidequests I was wondering whether or not i wanted to do NG+. This was a great video, I've decided to continue exploring all corners here on my first playthrough and then when the game calls my name again in a few months I'll be ready to start NG+ with some more knowledge and some new starter abilities. An important thing to note is that you don't have to go through with new game plus after reaching the end. It gives you the choice to go back and keep playing. If the room is too empty for you, you can always turn away from that choice, and some characters in the game will actually comment on you not moving to the new game plus yet. If you come back after doing more stuff, more things will be added to the summery of your accomplishments in the end room.

Unfortunately many people fall the allure of "you are doing it wrong", or "you are missing out", or "it could be so much better". It's ok, whatever, it's a game. However realising that it's your time and doing it however you feel like is so freeing and I find leads to the most fun. After all, if you are following someone else's instructions, it can feel like work. I'm grateful to Cohh that over many streams he has reminded me that games are for fun, and keeping that in mind has allowed me to enjoy games that are janky, crazy, or just allow me to do fun the way I want :)

I have been playing through the UC vanguard questline for the last 15 or so hours and it's amazing yet only 18% of people have the achievement for starting it and 5% got to the halfway point. The fact that this game was declared shit by people with zoomer attention spans is truely a shame. It's just going to give the impression to bethesda that all the story improvment wasn't worth it. That's how I usually play Bethesda games... I don't usually finish the main quest line for years -- I'm too busy starting over for new play styles. I'm not sure I've actually fought Alduin yet, myself. But when I did the math and realized that it would take like 300+ level ups to max out the skill tree, I was very disheartened about my prospects for my typical Bethesda style Master of All run. When I learned that you build your skills over multiple NG+es instead of losing them, I decided for myself to mainline the main quests. I think I'm almost at the climax (I've received an invitation for a showdown at least). I've never played a Bethesda game this way before.

What I have done and I can definitely recommend, is to play very thoroughly and pretend NG+ doesnt even exist the first time (it helps to not know about it at all tbh, because then its a big surprise). Do your whole sandbox experience, do everything you want to do, then if you want to max out the powers rush NG+ through NG+10 to max the powers ship and suit then Sandbox again from there.

I didni't "rush" the main quest, but gave it what felt like the appropriate level of urgency, given the quest dialogs. When I got the the choice at the end of the main quest, I chose to turn around and head back (you can always return to the end at any time later). If you do this, all your Constellation friends have new dialog for you. I haven't seen anyone mention that. You can continue, but all your pals know that you went there, and chose to stay. I thought that was a cool thing.

That’s the beauty of playing as you wish. I’m also during my first play though and a pivot moment in the main campaign. I was focusing on main quests plus some minor side quests, just to find my own fun and well role play. I’m only level 25. While I like the power fantasy of playing and overpower character (which of course I spent time on to make them this way), I plan to take it easy, closer to the end of the main quest I think I will take a break look at what else game has to offer and do side missions as well as join one of factions. After this I will take a decision do I want to continue or start ng+.

You can only play a game for the first time once. Do yourself a favor, and savor it--dont rush dialogue, don't google hacks or the "best" way to do something. Limit the save scumming. It will all make that first playthrough something you'll never forget.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if you rush NG+ and basically ignore everything else, when you get to NG+, you don’t get the unique dialogue options. I did all the faction questions in the first playthrough but there were some other minor quests that I did for the first time in NG+. When I redid the factions in NG+, there was always some sort of unique dialog options, same with most (of not all) of the minor quests I happened to complete in the first run and redid in NG+. But on the quests that I did for the first time in NG+, I never had unique dialog options. I feel like that’s a really cool mechanic to be missing out on.

Ya, I decided to treat each as it's own life. And I am still on my main and have not done NG+ yet (though I did try it just to see the very beginning, that's where I decided to stick with my main for now). Maybe slight spoilers ahead so don't keep reading if you care. I think I will get the most benefit of going through each NG+ as its own sort of life. In one I maybe will be a pirate. In another, maybe I join the vanguard. In another maybe I rush through collecting the artifacts for more power. Basically, I want it to be somewhat realistic and believable. What would my character do finding themselves in a completely new alternate universe? Would I feel the same about everyone? Might I treat all of them as less than human because it doesn't feel real? Might I thirst for more power? Then at some point... probably at my 10th universe, I might settle down like Keeper Aquilus did. And that is the point where I will likely treat it way more like a sandbox where now I will collect items, build massive ships, massive outposts, save money, etc. It will also be the playthrough where I do all the side quests and factions over again, take everything I learned from my previous lives and have what essentially is a perfect run.
@CaptainAmercia

Yeah same here as well. It should never be something you rush into for the sake of getting it out of the way as you'll burn yourself out and end up hating the game the first time around. Then you'll feel disconnected from the people of this new universe as you'll think "Wait I just left my own universe behind but I did nothing beyond the main story". I'm so glad I actually played through 30+ hours no main story and then dived into the game once I formed a narrative for my character around the rangers and other side missions. Dive into a new universe and for this one I rushed to get the 3nd suit, only an hour super easy and then stayed in the third universe.

NG+ came into prominence with a lot of JRPGs. They were never meant to be the WAY to play, they were just meant to allow you to relive the story without the grind, you'd get to save your gear and levels usually. Starfield is the same, you get some stuff carried over but it is meant as a way for you to play the game again but maybe skip parts that you don't feel like doing again.

I did something similar to a mix between the fourth way and the second described here: - first, I played in a very immersive way as a pilgrim in search of the mysteries of the Universe, exploring everything like a curious cat. But, after falling in love with Sarah, I went to the end like a "great husband" and focused only on the main quest. She became "my entire world" and a lot of sandbox I put to a side. In the 1st New Game+, I decided to play a female version of this same guy. Just like the first, she likes everything correct and right, but she started to commit small thefts here and there. And she has outbursts of selfishness, clashing with the initial character, who was more heroic. Without Sarah's love, she remained on the path of pilgrimage and it was here that I did a substantial part of my sandbox, enjoying everything, but from the perspective of a correct, heroic, but stealthy and credit-loving person. In the second NG+, I became a guy again, only now wise and isolated. Less heroic, more selfish, but curious about misteries and focused in strengthening his powers. I avoided joining Constellation at the beginning, I made another part of the sandbox and repeated the most of it with new choices (colder and more individualistic) and went into new factions. I did return to Constellation only after a while. Every time I make an NG+ I am an "imperfect copy" of my first original character. Always searching, never finishing their journey entirely. But I always keep something of the first one, like a connecting thread, that prevents me from becoming the extreme opposite of everything he was. Each NG+ is a challenge for me. "How am I be in this new one? More romantic? more sad? more selfish? more heroic? curious? reclusive?" In fact, I consider "Pilgrim" to be the best background for heroic and contemplative explorer gameplay. If you like RP, this is one of the best choices! You will never get tired of the endings, but always glad to the new ways you will travel the same roads again and again... in a never-ending personal story.

I am currently enjoying my first run and I have stayed in the current universe just to experience things I missed on like you said. using this universe to see and try everything and possibly screw it all up too. For me I will spend time in each universe and see what changes between them. Like the HUnter mention each thime there is subdtle difference... I want to experience that as well. but for me NG+10 will be where I build a base, a fleet etc... but all the ones before will be where I see them first hand...

Orrrr get to NG+9 first then focus on doing everything in the last play through while being a Star born God and having a badass suit and ship and owning the galaxy u can then focus on building permanent ships and outpost and relations etc so that u don’t have to worry about wanting to upgrade your powers nd suit but then having to delete it in the long run

Feel for anyone who rushed this game you’ve basically robbed yaself of enjoying what makes this game great. In typical Bethesda fashion the main campaign acts as more of a Story Arc to give it a purpose & the side content/ random encounters is where the enjoyment truly lays. That’s what makes BGS games unique, The main campaign always feels secondary to what the game truly offers

Personally enjoy each playthrough as a specific faction plus main story

*Shortest & simplest reason not to rush into NG+:* You should get unlock all of your _special abilities_ in NG. Why: In consecutive playthroughs, you'll be able to upgrade the ones you've already found, but any you hadn't previously found will only be unlocked that playthrough, not upgraded, so it'll lag behind. You want to acquire *every* _special ability_ in each playthrough, so that they can all be fully upgraded by NG+9.

First vid I watched on this, and I think I’ll be doing option 4. I like that idea.

I am like you, I enjoy the immersive original experience and going into everything blind. I did my 80+ hour playthru before I decided it was time to finish the main quest line. I actually saved before NG+ and decided that I didn't want to redo everything from my original game so I reverted and haven't looked back. I suppose there's the option to decline but I'm not gonna throw away all that time and effort to be restarted like that. Not worth the fancy ship and suit tbh.

I have 3 Primary game saves. The 1st one is the 1st playthrough (no NG+) where I do as little of the story as possible and just try and max my skills/level to match my real self and the game backstories. I’ve had training/been trained in: -ballistic rifles, shotguns and pistols (combat skills and weapon research) - body armor/camouflage techniques (spacesuit research and stealth) -cooking (gastronomy) -driving & flying (piloting) -navigation (astrodynamics) -fitness -targeting -vehicle function and maintenance (shipbuilding) This save will name a base and untouched (read only, no overwriting) and a point where I can enjoy the story..which is the main reason to enjoy a game (especially an RPG). The 2nd Save is a “hero build” that you’d expect a Starborn to have: -lasers -security -particle beams -wellness, etc. Maxing out as many skills as I can. The 3rd/Last Save is also read only and exclusively a NG+8 save with everything from save 1 and 2 carried over. I chose NG+8 instead of NG+10 as I think the Starborn suit you get looks the best in +8 vs the rags in +10.

I saw someone say "dont do all the sidequests, starfield has NG+10" .... i dont want to play a game this big, 10 different times, just to finish everything. Plus, once i beat something, i rarely go back to it unless i really love it. Dumb.
