That does seem like it was a furry campaign, great! :3 I wonder how it was explained that such rare individuals in the worlds with respect to their usual demographic percentages (at least comparatively to humans that even in Akiton equal the population of ysokis) have not only gathered in one place but have also found reasons to ally/group together. That has to be an interesting story. Of course, theoretically it could happen by simple chance... but it would be so rare/unique XD

Long ago, playing Second Edition D&D, I deeply treasured my copy of The Complete Book of Humanoids. Finally I had an official way to say to my group, "No, humans are boring, who wants to be a dwarf, elves are just melodramatic self-important twats - do you know what would be cool to play? A KOBOLD. Or check out these Saurials! Dino people? AWESOME. These mongrelmen look absolutely fascinating, I wanna try that! And this book says I can do it!" And so I did. I had fun playing D&D back then, but being able to play something other than the standard "oh it's a human, just tall with weird ears" and "oh it's a human, just short with a beard" made the game way more fun and entertaining - and relatable. Yeah, that's right, I felt I was able to personally relate more to a minotaur or a gnoll than "it's a human, just short with hairy feet." Still feel that way. We're playing a fantasy hero game. Our characters are cut from a different cloth. This was one way to reinforce that idea.

On the one hand, playing a furry is often just a human in cosplay, or a Disney-like anthromorphic character given this form just to enhance one set of features. (Ex: Fox people are always smart and duplicitous, owl folk are always wise, turtle folk are always slow, etc.) On the other hand, playing a furry with all of his animal features can be very awkward and even disgusting. Yet on the intellectual side we should be able to play anything in a role-playing game. It's safe to say that Starfinder falls more on the fantasy side of science fiction, so playing a furry in this game is more of an act of fantasy than anything, closer to the human in cosplay or the cartoon character. Personally, I don't give too much thought to it and let my players play whatever they want until it meets the limits of my preferences and those that will break my immersion.

However, I find that they leave something to be desired with mechanical customizability, even though they are advertised as being highly customizable. But, I still like them though. :3

Starfinder was my introduction to TTRPGs as a whole. I was invited to join by my very-much-a-furry GM and fell in love with the system immediately. Playing a custom race which is more pathfinder-inspired but we also have an uplifted bear, a vlakan, a ysoki and an Android who is sick of our antics. Very informative video, thank you for randomly appearing in my recommended!

Nah, I disagree. I’ve always preferred werewolf over any other rpg. I’ve tried many. And werewolf topped the charts every time. Because I get to play in a game where I can act out as a garou. It’s the garou way that attracts me. Not being a 8-10 foot tall murder machine. That’s cool, very cool. But it’s not the be all of the game. It’s a part of the character but not all of the character. Now I’ve said elsewhere that I do get asked all the time if I am secretly a closet furry, but this is absolutely only a recent thing. In all the 23 years I’ve been playing only now do I get asked. And it’s a no. I’m not. If these people think I give of ‘vibes’ that’s their misconception and misinterpretation. And annoying. Almost like the peer pressure that was tried on me at school. Which also failed. So starfinder has animal based characters …. Groovy. I’ve never been bothered by the game, and likely I won’t be anytime soon. Be interesting to have a peek at the private lives of the game creators though…

As a furry who enjoys Starfinder I answer: yes, it is for furries. I'm playing a Pahtra in a PbP game and it's very fun, indeed one of the best races by far. With that said Vlakas are better in every way because I like them more. With that said², we need a spider race because I like spiders even more.

Bah! I play whatever comes to mind or whatever the players/storytellor needs to balance the party out even in RPGs like iron law where furry is the general point. From the black market Gray alien memory vid salesman to the human spell scholar noble all the way to the lashuntra palm reader/detective then back over to the ysoki lower spike fast food delivery warrior fighting through droves of trash goblins to get you that order in 30 min or less then on down to dream city wheres my pahtra stripper has been arrested by the stewards for prostitution and vagrancy again. To me every character sheet is an opportunity to craft masterpiece of a pc. And I get as much fun crafting npcs. Creating backstories is just the tip of the ice burg. Seeing how the ST uses it is the best part. Take care Nath and fellow players.
