The only class I haven't used a lot so far, but it looks pretty neat! The thing I would say to new players is... don't assume the Soldier is the easiest class because it's the most straightforward, it is not. As a new player you will have to spend a lot of time reading the CRB with this class, looking through dozens of talents, customizations, pages and pages of equipment etc. So keep that in mind! From the perspective of a non-native English speaker it's even more important. I know players who prefer say a Mystic because you explain to them what they do, and that's it, but are turned down by the amount of English reading they have to do to get through the equipment section! If you like reading, get the Soldier! xD

Armor specialists can almost 100% offset the drawbacks to heavy armor. Layering DR on top of that. Juggernauting late game.

Lorenzo Valetti Very astute assessment and very valuable advice here. :)

Joseph Meyer YES! Happy someone else can appreciate this play style. If you're tanking in an RPG and someone asks what your classes primary stat is, "Armor" is the correct answer. I'm playing a level 3 Redemption Pally in 5e right now, and sporting a lazily buffed 22 AC. Now I just gotta get myself immune to crits and I become what my party needs! A sentient, mobile 5' square of impenetrable armor and magic that can taunt and heal. *finger kiss*

The Solider is the rosetta stone of so many multiclass builds. However a pure Solider can be a scary thing. Double and triple dipping into the same weapon/gear specialization can be game breaking.

10:09 I think if they are giving it for free to every class it has to be bacause everyone really needs it. Plus, magic is less prominent here, so it makes more sense that every character who is an adventurer would be effective with weapons. That being said, maybe Croog is right in saying that they could have balanced the game around it, so that you wouldn't need to have it bloat the classes. However, they may have done it in order to give a more "deadly" feeling to combat. Meaning, "I may miss you, but when i get you right, you go down!", to make combat a little bit more cinematic?
@Althaven_5 жыл бұрын
That all makes sense, but I think the real crux of the issue is the idea of player choice. A huge pillar of RPGs is that freedom is sacrosanct, but level 3 seems to violate that pillar unnecessarily. Of course there will be rules and constraints, but when a player *can* be given a choice, I feel like they should be. I don't think it would have been out of the realm of possibility to make this feature into either a player choice, or barring that, into something that more specifically respects a given classes fantasy. "You use weapons better", for some classes, can be way out of left field if weapons aren't a primary interest of the character you're trying to portray. Or...we may be nit picking. Croog might ask on Twitter and see if we get a reply. :)

@@Althaven_ Yeah, I see what you mean and ultimately I agree. Maybe I am just surprised that they (the devs) didn't anticipate this. Maybe it was too late to change the entire rebalancing of the game and they had to go with a "patch" like this

That's also what I suspect. Easier to apply one global buff than to make lots of individual nerfs.

'Ya don't think the capstone is a bit single minded compared to the awesome flexibility of the rest of the class?
@fashionandfrags5 жыл бұрын
It is, yes, but still when you compare capstone to capstone it's one of the better choices. It doesn't compare to the Mystic or Technomancer's, but it's a chance to instakill a boss in a bloody mess, if I remember correctly. The Operative's, and the Envoy's are the worst in my opinion.

In terms of like, game play impact, which is the perspective I think you're approaching this from, I think you're right! I just think having an equally impact full defensive option would be cool. Mostly because that's how I like to play. :)

I usually do the same! Especially if I'm starting a campaign that I think will be running for a while, I'll build all my ideas out, level by level, to see where they'll shine, where they start to fall off, etc. On the flip side, sometimes I'll just make a character by the seat of my pants with 0 optimization, just to play with new ideas and see where it takes me! That's fun too if you haven't tried it. :)
