They clearly know how to cook a meal properly. However that is a ridiculous price for Fish and Chips. Especially considering that when I was a kid you could get what they refer to as a large portion of chips for a couple of dollars. Let us face it the ingredients have not changed. It is still potatoes and fish. Two people? that only just feed me.

It is fresh barramundi for starters Not frozen tiawanese barra or frozen barra from Vietnam that are ponded fish that makes up about 90% of the barra that's used in fish and chips On top of that most of the imported barra is soaked to absorb water so it's tasteless Fresh local barra will cost the shop around 28.00/kg for the fillets 200gram portion will cost around 6.00 per piece To cover cost the shop as to sell that piece at 66% margin That's with profit Then include the chips portion lemon and packaging It might sound expensive but high quality seafood is

Yep. I usually only get a burger with the lot from fish and chip shops. 10-14 bucks. A piece of flake is like $10 without chips. Breaks my heart. Use to order $5 fish and chips and get dimmies and potato cakes in the chips

Has the labelling of fish laws been updated yet? Especially when 75% of fish consumed in Australia is imported. "60 per cent of "barramundi" is currently cheap imports from Asia, where it is known as sea bass, and the local aquaculture industry says it's time restaurants and cafes follow the same rule as fish market retailers, who are compelled to tell customers if their barramundi is domestically grown. "In the retail shop, they have to label it imported or local, but in restaurants and cafes, they don't have to label it." 😮

I’m not a fan of mullet . Snapper or king George whiting are my faves. Sea perch or John Dory are good too. Having said that, most fish is good when it’s ultra fresh. Caught that day.

Yes, legal to surcharge a small extra amount for credit card use, 10% surcharge on retail price on Sundays and 20% on public holidays. Not mandatory though. But at least we don't tip in Australia 😮
