As i'm sure comments to this effect are already flooding in: no the "Thousands of megatons" figure doesn't make sense. Though I guess it could be rationalised as some kind of crazy high-yield setting for certain planetary bombardments. The real answer is that Stargate's technical info was published by a magazine and is almost always wrong, especially the Tau'ri ship dimensions. The info is canon however, and we always publish the canon figures on Spacedock, even if they make no sense.

@Chris George I bet the Tok'ra, Jaffa and even the Lucian Alliance would've accomplished that, the Tauri only made it faster, as it was clearly the Jaffa we're going to revolt soon, this would trigger Tok'ra and Lucian Alliance opps, and I know Lucian Alliance only appeared after the collapse, but they raised in power so fast, do you really believe they were created only them?

@Chris George actually the Empire only ever collapsed because of the Replicators which killed most of their fleet (tens of thousands of Ha'tak Motherships) and leaders. @@sayerglasgow115 actually stargate is internally consistent. In the beginning they were pretty strong but their shields could be pierced by Ion weaponry designed by the Asgard and Tolan (who were bowth far more advanced). They became less of a threat over time because the Tau'ri got Asgard technology (and improvements to their Asgard based shields ) at multiple stages in Stargate. The "unexplained" upgrade is actually explained pretty well. Anubis is a near ascended being he simply has a greater understanding of the universe. After that they actually stay a big threat to all ships that Aren't the Asgard O'Neill class or Equipped with Ancient Drone weaponry (well and the Ori Mouthership but that can swat away all others on the list without taking Damage) until the Tau'ri get the OP upgrades in unending.

@MrAranton

@IJN Yamato Tactics from earth can only be applied to the world of Stargate to a certain degree. No ship of any kind can move troops as effectively as the stargate network. Mainly because ships take much more time to travel from one planet to the next. Because of that an invasion platform doesn't need to bring in enough troops to clear out all enemy resistance and occupy a planet, all they need is a strike force capable of securing the stargate as a means to bring further reinforcements that will then finish the job. Trying to establish a beachhead that doesn't contain the planet's stargate would be pointless because reinforcements coming through will always crush whatever invasion force can be brought in by ship. So: a planetary invasion is effectively decided once it's clear which side will own the stargate once the battle is over. Now: Keeping the human population in line takes a lot fewer forces than wrestling a planet from the control of another Goa'uld. And since SG-1 gives the vibe that the Goa'uld do not have the ressources to defend all the planets they own against invasion (if they did, SG-teams would run well defended positions whenever they open a wormhole to a goa'uld occupied planet), there are no front-lines on the galactic scales, each Goa'uld world is it's own (more or less) isolated beachhead with the stargate as its only supply line. The Ha'tak's role in this sort of warfare is to provide a way of maneuvering that doesn't involve the stargate-network. I got the impression that - at least for about the first half of Stargate SG-1 no Goa'uld has enough interstellar ships to defend every planet he/she has a presence on. They can't defend everything and (given the speed of a Ha'tak) in order to have a defensive fleet above a planet they'd have to know about an attack months before it happens. So I don't think space battles were not that common when the Ha'tak was designed and the mightiest warship of the Goa'uld. To me it looks more like a carrier/transport/fighting-vessel hybrid than a vessel dedicated to fight other starships.
@MrAranton
@MrAranton 4 жыл бұрын
@@khadenallast4495 It seems you're overlooking something: Warfare among the Goa'uld. The main opposition a hatak and the jaffa on board would face are not the comparatively primitive humans on goa'uld owned planets but the jaffa of other goa'uld. Those primitive worlds that cannot support dedicated warriors and don't have technology to rival the goa'uld would be conquered through the stargate, not by sending a Ha'tak.

The Ha'tak was a frightening symbol of the Goa'uld's power when we were first introduced to them. Due to the nature of the show focusing on travel through the Stargate's we did NOT expect to see any ships this fast. The entire conflict with the Goa'uld was changed since now there was a very real threat of them destroying humanity with these ships that could obliterate cities in the blink of an eye that were impervious to 20th century weapons. They weren't the most powerful ships out there, we saw the Asgard Bilskimir ships out classed them, but Earth couldn't count on them coming to our rescue all the time.

As spaceship designs go, the Ha'tak really should be more iconic it is. It's unique in so many ways, and also a perfect symbol of Goa'uld psychology and culture. It's ostentatious, enormous and clearly built for show, not purpose. It has no defined bow or stern, a rather rare aspect of sci-fi ships, but it doesn't have the uniformity or simplicity of flying saucers or a Borg cube. Such a design is inherently inefficient in combat, however. Tau'ri and Asgard warships are explicitly designed for combat, focusing as much firepower forward as possible and improving maneuverability, but the Goa'uld design disperses firepower and shield strength while still having serious weak points. Of course, the Goa'uld don't care about that. They're scavengers, not innovators like the Tau'ri and Asgard, so they rarely develop new technology or designs. As a result, the Ha'tak is a rather poor warship, which resulted in the relatively primitive Prometheus being capable of taking them on effectively. Still, it's a wonderful design. Whoever came up with this one did a great job.

I'd like to understand how you've come to the conclusion they weren't built for war or battle? They have 360 degree fire power that would smoke a Borg cube fairly easily, a hefty compliment of fighters and support craft. Their shields are more than adequate, with only a few races able to beat them. But off track. Why is this ship not designed for battle.
@davidlewis5312
@davidlewis5312 4 жыл бұрын
@@nihilityjoey I would disagree with smoking a borg cube (they can't vary their frequency and replicators were able to easily absorb their energy). The only weapon I think that could reliably heavily damage a Borg cube is probably the primary guns of a Mercury class battlestar; you can't adapt to a solid slug the size of your car being hurled at you at subliminal velocities.

Two Ha'tak were a major threat to Earth but later in the series entire fleets were repelled. The Republic was 25,000 years old. The fact that a ship design would be useful for almost that long can be taken in several different ways. Yes, one could say that surely it was just that powerful and that it was simply built superbly. Or, one could postulate that there simply wasn't any competition and there just wasn't any new enemies to fight, no threat to adapt to. Or, in line with the second thought, the Goa'uld could simply be technologically stagnant, and simply unable to produce a better design for the same tonnage. All of these are possible, and many more reasons too, so I do not think it would be prudent to assume anything in comparison to other Sci-Fi universes. After all, complacency and lack of natural competition breeds weakness and a lack of adaptability. By comparison, the Republic has had near-constant wars for almost its entire existence. Be it against the Sith, itself, or even the Hutts. That kind of environment is the perfect one to create strong technological leaps and adaptable fighting forces. The Republic, by comparison, likely has a much better concept of Asymmetrical warfare, and that will carry over into ship design.

And as shown by Anubis and Replicators, the ship has a lot of untapped potential. Basically it's Adeptus Mechanics syndrome - it's made from watered down low quality ancient tech without full understanding of it. So when someone WITH understanding of that tech gets their hands on it, the ship suddenly jumps twenty power levels up. Or maybe the plot was just inconsistent later on and it helped ruin the series;)

@@lastechocorp1841 problems with Jaffa weapons is that 1)they work well. Case in point, regard lasgun vs stubber/autogun/bolter. Lasgun might not be as fun, but it works perfect for logistics on galactic level, it barely runs out of ammo, it can be charged with sunlight or heat from campfire, it can work for centuries. I don't recall Jaffa staff jamming in the show. I haven't seen it being cleaned and oiled. I don't recall Jaffa running out of ammo. It doesn't break or bend when dropped. While providing firepower of a mortar/recoilles rifle; 2)the show tries to make the point against them not with UZI or MP5 or AKM or G3, nope, it uses polymer abomination known as P90 of all things:D

@@TheArklyte yeah my point wasnt that it was a poor quality weapon rather the execution was sub par. yes the p90 is awesome when your 10 but when you understand guns its a piece of crap, thing is they stared with mp5,s and they used g36's, yet even this abomination the p90 still far exceeded the staff weapon in a straight fight as proven by non SG1 teams when they didnt all die to overwhelming numbers, perhaps a AR platformed staff weapon, the kul warriors proved that the staff part of the weapon is entirely aesthetic what with having automatic versions in there wrists.

Nice to see another Stargate ship on here. Still one of my favorite scifi series. As for the weapons yields, I am not sure how powerful the ships weapons were, but we do know that they could level a city the size of New York in just a few shots (the dialogue if I recall gives the impression of a single shot)....but that was also in an alternate timeline episode too. We never see them output that much firepower again.

There are a few variants. There is the early, or "round" Ha'tak, defined by it's round outer frame. It was used by Apophis to invade Earth. It seems to be an earlier, inferior model, and is not used in later seasons. Then there is the normal, six-edged Ha'tak, that you see most often. And then there is the Anubis Ha'tak, equipped with powerful Ancient hyperdrive, shields and weapons, and capable of engaging Asgard ships head on. While it looks almost identical on the outside, it has a completely different interior, characterised by well-lit, gold and blue corridors. One of these was taken over by Thor AI and crashlanded in Earth's ocean. We can expect such ships to be much treasured and feared by the existing powers of the Milky Way.
