Stargate Kawoosh (2018)

After years of on and off tweaking, I finalized the Kawoosh animation. It's all done in LightWave 2018 using a complex nodal displacement setup, with some post processing in After Effects.
It's the very same principle as in the breakdown video ( • Stargate Kawoosh Anima... ) I did years ago. The secret lies in tweaking the displacement until it looks and animates like a water surface. The rest is created by reflections of a proper background image, and a luminous surface behind the event horizon.

Best stargate vortex I have ever seen. There's lots of attempts out there, and this one is hands down the best. It's even better than the ones from the show! If they do another film or show they should use this one.

The practical version in the original Stargate movie is still by far the best, but yes this trumps the ones in the TV shows

This is great! I really like the beginning swirls and the ending lighting. The kawoosh itself kind of looks like a fist (the hand of god?) thrusting in and out... I think I like that too?
