Sokar the evilest Gou'ald in the show. I can't really tell if that surprising or worrying.

Ever notice how Sokar had very similar makeup to an Ori prior? And we know Anubis was experimenting with ascension and had clones with partial ascension powers.... would have been cool if Sokar was one of those clones.

Sokar and Heru'ur were really big players, in the back ground. Their choices and fates shaped the galaxy. But what was happening was a little too big to show so it only got a few lines of dialog and a couple fight/death scenes.

i do wish they used Sokar more often, i remember seeing him in the show and for some reason my mind slipped of him ever being brought up again in the show. so you reminded me of many times where they referenced him in the past within the show, which is nice. but i'm disappointed they didn't use him in the show more often. there has been some talk for the past year about stargate possibly coming back in some capacity, but nobody knows where they will go in the series, some think they will continue or resolve SGA and SGU stories, but it almost sounded like they might go into something new. but sometimes i think that the should could go into the past and tell stories we already know, but from another perspective, it was rare in stargate that we really got to see the perspectives from the goa'uld for long enough to really get to know them or even the story lines within the ranks of the ascended. i don't know how these series would play out necessary, but it would be nice to really know the perspectives from these points of view outside of sg1, the closest episode we saw that had some of this was when those two nerds thought they could help sg1 and ended up figuring out that sg1 got captured so they could meet the tokra agent who was posing as an goa'uld. it would also be interesting seeing what it was like when the alteran were first exploring the milky way or just to visit certain points within their history to see what they faced, there isn't a whole lot known between the times when they discovered the milky way and when they eventually left for Pegasus, i'm always interested in an story that involves more of the Alteran and their journey of 50 million years. when we meet merlin, he explains he lived on earth originally and then he was on Atlantis and then he ascended and then he gave up his ascension to return in mortal form to create the tech to defeat the Ori in the case that the threat ever came to the milky way's doorstep. we know that the others found out and sent Morgan le fay to stop him and she did originally, but she also changed her mind and decided to preserve him instead. of course the others didn't know until sg1 was successful in killing off the majority of the Ori. anyway like i always do with my comments, i start with one thing and then go on to explain a bunch of stuff related but not the same original topic. damn my random access memory!

Yeah your comments are, something special. ( I mean that in the nicest way possible). When it comes to new shows, I think they should do something new. I like SGU, but it had its chance. I think it’s more important to bring back the franchise with something stable. Maybe go back to the Destiny later.

Here's a list of the Gouald from bad ass to just plan,narcissist and evil: Ra spawn the gold armor,he is or was seen and worshipped as the sun god(however,he was very comical like Loki of asgard), Sokar dawned the red armor,he was outcast by the others as being too harsh even as a system lord,he put the others on edge(very smart,his character arc needed more storylines and yes he had the best tactical and military personnel) Anubis is second best of the system lords: he can switch bodies anytime he wants to and his army used silver/gold armor not to mention he has the Krill warriors in black energy resistant armor(he's half ascended ancient,as the cloning technology,military forces plus he can blow up Whole star systems) Baal,is the most cunning of the system lords,he knows when he needs help even from the tauri and tokra(it's all a strategy for him plus he made a clone of senator Kelly that's a lot to props just doing that alone,he admittedly had a foot hold on earth,none of the other goulads did this

I had planned a campaign in the TTRPG, which fell through, but Sokar was the bad guy. It starts off with the Tok'ra catching him, he survived his demise and was laying low. They do the extraction ceremony like they did with Ba'al in Continuum, but it turns out that Sokar was a strange Goa'uld, for more reasons that the ones we knew, because unbeknownst to everyone else, Sokars host, (who I named Faust) was willing, and after the Goa'uld was removed and killed, the host pretended to be back to normal and traumatized, long enough to be given the remains of the Goa'uld, at which point he broke out stole a ship, and ran off, using a reasource cache belonging to Ba'al to create a clone of the snake, who bonded with him, and they kick off a massive war

I wish Sokar would have been portrayed as a half human/half Unas hybrid. That would have explained why he was rouge, reviled and hated by the system lords. He could have had the classical features of the devil, strength of an Unas and a human brain for the parasite to interface with. I think they started with him, then the writers and producers went another direction (Anubis) after they already committed to his character in a few episodes. They shortened his tenure in the show to insert Anubis.

I do think that Sokar was underutilized and it's primarily because the writers of the show were always going to bring Apophis back as SG-1's primary villain. The ground work for this was laid when after sending the dead body of Apophis back through the gate to the planet PB5-926 to stop Sokar using the particle accelerator to bombard the SGC's stargate, Martouf warns them that Sokar will revive him using a Sarcophagus. So when they finally have to travel to Netu to rescue Jacob Carter/Selmak it was inevitable that they were going to encounter Apophis again. From there Sokar's arrogance/hubris was his undoing while Apophis escaped his ship to the planet to avoid the explosion of Netu and then assume control of Sokar's army to become the principle villain of SG-1 once more. After Apophis was finally killed in the opening episode of Season 5 they shifted their attention to bringing in Anubis to become the primary villain for two and a half seasons. As you pointed out there are many parallels between Sokar and Anubis, most notably both characters were played by David Palffy, the two wearing hooded costumes, both had been banished at some point by the System Lords and both Sokar and Anubis were based off Gods of the Underworld. There was also the device Anubis used on the SGC's stargate in the opening episodes of Season Six which fired a particle beam through the gate to keep it open until the energy passing through the wormhole overwhelmed it causing a massive explosion enhanced by the Naquadah in the gate, with the intent on destroying Earth. This device is kind of similar to the particle accelerator Sokar used on the SGC's stargate after the dying Apophis sought refuge with his mortal enemies in the hope that Sokar would destroy them with him.

Good catch with the particle things, I forgot about those. Yeah it’s kind of weird how similar to two are. Like maybe when they brought back Apophis and had to kill Sokar they really like him and wanted a re-do.

I saw his premiere and honestly Fandoms didn't really have the voice to take him down if we wanted too, which no one did that I knew then or now. Back then late 90s to early 00s portraying Abrahamic Icons was a bit taboo, MGM executives most likely had a large hand in the Sokar to Anubis kill off and transition. This was a time when everybody could go see LOTR but depending on your home's specific faith you weren't knowingly allowed to see Harry Potter.

Hair-ooh-uhr; Hare-ooh-roor. "Heru'ur". Either would be acceptable as both have been used by human and non-human characters alike onscreen. Many tend to make it more difficult by mispronouncing it with an additional syllable or pause in the middle like "Goa'uld", "Tau'ri", or "Tok'ra" when in this case it's actually easier and more accurate to just let the pronunciation flow together smoothly without the more plosive syllable/stop in the middle. It's an understandable common mistake considering the frequency with which an apostrophe is used to indicate a glottal stop and/or elision when transcribing the Goa'uld language phonetically using the Latin alphabet. Such cases are certainly abundant throughout examples of spoken Goa'uld dialog seen onscreen, although there are also plenty of instances where an apostrophe might appear in the written version of a word but otherwise bear no effect on it's actual practical pronunciation. Such is the reality in many fictional languages of non-human species in media if I'm being honest lol. The frequent use of apostrophes in the middle of words is a rather unfortunate, disappointing, and downright lazy crutch often employed by writers when creating "constructed languages" (or "conlangs"), particularly in regards to the creation and pronunciation of languages of non-human origin in science fiction and fantasy works. The intention and idea behind this concept is that it quite simply makes a language appear - and in a lot of cases sound - more 'alien'; especially to the eyes and ears of an English speaking audience which frankly makes up the majority of most major studio target demographics.

In regards to Sokar not having much more advanced technology than the rest of the System Lords I respectfully disagree. The particle accelerator was one thing, but let me give you two other examples. First is Sokar planning to build a mothership that would serve as his flagship, but didn't happen, because he died and Apophis took over his empire. You could argue that the other System Lords had ships like this that served as flagships but there is no evidence, otherwise Heru'ur would have come with a ship like that to meet with Apophis, Lord Yu personally would come with one when he lead the System Lords against Anubis above Abydos or when Ba'al personally led the System Lords's small fleet that destroyed Anubis's ship over Jonas's homeworld. Let's not even talk about Dakara, Ba'al could have come with a ship like that if they had one. Second being his cloaked ha'taks, that Apophis brought with him when meeting Heru'ur. Jacob stated and I quote "That's impossible, the goa'uld have never been able to cloak an entire mothership before, let alone a fleet". It was never seen before Apophis taking over Sokar's forces, and it was never seen after Apophis died. Even Anubis couldn't cloak his ha'taks, and if he could, why didn't he do that? Surely he would have cloaked his fleet above Earth, or his personal ship whenever he traveled somewhere. Not saying Sokar is more technologically advanced or stronger than Anubis, but even he had developed some impressive technology that definitely surpassed Anubis's tech, let alone the regular goa'uld tech. It was an amazing video btw!

ill be the first to admit im not 100 on the stargate lore or anything. but i do wonder if it would be possible for Sokar and Anubis to be the same person. Yu beleived Anubis to be dead long ago and i do not recall seeing anubis without being in shadow of his cloak. So perhaps where we all think Sokar is dead he made it seem so but actually survived to take on the Persona of Anubis having spent so much time outside the politics and such of the Goauld and perhaps unlocking many secrets that only he would know since everyone who was with him while he was using the Sokar name is now dead and gone. where he is not Anubis. God of death mind you and all of his following is now dead and he would have to rebuild quickly as Anubis using his alliance with Osiris to do so and go on to use his secrets from his past life to be the big bad of the series. Its just a thought that maybe they could be the same person and we just dont know that. like i said, no one would know of the secrets he has learned because everyone that could know would be dead but him. so to take on a new persona of Anubis and return after Supposedly centuries with all this knowledge would be a great cover story and leave all his enemies in the dark until the moment of his triumph. But i could be missing something. im not 100 on stargate lore or nothing. its one of the universes im lighter into.

It’s not a bad theory. It actually would make some sense. The only thing is some of the histories of both of the characters don’t exactly match up. Like there was one point where we know they we both doing two different things. But that comes from the RPG books and not everyone considers them cannon. If we go only by the show the theory could be true.

Sokar does seem like wasted potential but he was too dangerous during his build up so he needed to be put down. Remember Sokar was stated to have a fleet that outnumbered the system lords so much that he would win quickly but after Apophis took over his empire there must have been a massive desertion or infighting because Apophis didnt inherit a fleet that could beat the system lords. There must have been a purge so bad that Apophis considered making a deal with Heru ur. Anubis was a better villain he was operating for an entire season before we even knew his name

so the idea behind Sokar and Anubis, it's tough to say why they killed off Sokar so soon, but i will be honest, Anubis story and rise to power since the system lords all rallied against him those 2,000 years ago, seemed much more methodical and more powerful when you consider his back story in becoming what he is now. in the show they explain Anubis as being the worst of any system lord to ever exist within the ranks of the goa'uld race, it's explained he did things that were even found to disgust the other goa'uld so much, that it got to the point where they all fought against him to get him out of the picture. and his story seemed to be nonexistent for a time. until he started defeating the other goa'uld like a slow but all consuming plague as his rise to power became known and uncomfortable to the other goa'uld who ended up serving him as they were afraid of what he was that they couldn't explain nor do anything about. there is this scene that i remember of Anubis talking with Baal as Anubis's skin is rotting and falling off his face and baal is clearly disgusted, but baal is also holding back his true personality traits as he sees Anubis leave the rotting body into another fresh body that he takes control over. baal was afraid of Anubis no doubt. other system lords ended up falling in line as well of Anubis's presence, the planet where Anubis created the kull warriors, he had an low level goa'uld that had the job of fixing and repairing the warriors and probably had to do with the creation of them as well. and Anubis even frightened him, Anubis was not only a god to the jaffa, but he was also an god to his own race of goa'uld as he would strike fear in them as well. and he had the support of these kull warriors who where sworn to only him, in the show they speculate that the larva that Anubis's queen was loyal to Anubis, but it's even possible Anubis frightened her and threatened her to his service, because again everyone who worked with Anubis feared him. Anubis had such an awesome rise to power, and it was a great ride. but it ended kind of disappointing as the writers thought it was better that he be stuck in eternal combat...that's lazy writing if you ask me. all that build up only for him to end up within eternal combat with Oma? i mean is this also the same solution they did with Adria? because that's how it looked in the end of the show.
@sg-24
@sg-24 3 жыл бұрын
See Sokar has a similar backstory thought. He may not have the “worst” compared to Anubis. Both both were kicked out of the empire. Both would eventually return and threaten to take over the whole empire. Both look different from the others. And both died when there spaceships got blown up. The only difference is that Anubis survived after his ship got blow up.

@@sg-24 i have gotten in other forums of speculation into this subject, and many thought that Oma was trying to build an army of ascended to her side, so she could gain more power and support and perhaps challenge the others as her cause was to fight against the Ori one day in the future. because the ascended gain more power when in large numbers, which is why the others were so powerful, she was holding that fine line of gaining power for her side of influence. but she was thrown an curve ball when she ascended Anubis and finding out what she did wrong as the others tried to stop the process, which is weird because it sounded like they didn't have the power to fully descend Anubis, so he was stuck in between both planes. honestly i think there was a lot more going on in this situation than what was told.
