The ending with Sam being stranded, watching the fleet get slaughtered and unable to do anything was such an epic cliffhanger.
@sarcasticstartrek77194 ай бұрын
well the real cliffhanger was WHICH ship was destroyed - and who was onboard when it happened - as it stands, you have the team split across space-suits (carter), the Korolev, the Odyssey and Teal'c's reinforcements. One of those ships blew up and until the next episode we don't know who (if anyone) we lost. I remember watching this when it aired and I was like "... did we just lose Daniel and Mitchel... ??? surely not... but then did we just also lose half the secondary cast? Surely not.... And until part 2, we had no answers - was everyone dead? Probably not but they've done it before....

First, Kvasir and his ship likely survived the battle as it had the best performance of the allied fleet and we didn't see its wreckage afterwards. Second, a year later the Asgard developed a beam weapon that could punch through Ori shields in a few shots. This battle scene is crazy good, epic and chilling. Even after all these years. The fact that the galaxy stood as one, Earth, the Jaffas, the Lucien Alliance and the Asgards fighting together and getting obliterated by just a handful of enemy ships. Ha'taks were the most powerful spacecrafts in the Milky Way galaxy for literally thousands of years. The Goa'uld used to opress entire planets with just one of these motherships and then in this battle they all get one-shot by the Ori. Deadalus-class Earth battlecruisers getting that are rocking Asgard shields, are getting disabled by just two shots and destroyed by three. And though not shown, probably the O'Neill-class Asgard mothership did not faire too well in the battle either. All that impact combined with the music, the visuals, the acting. You can actually see that they ships are moving closer to the Ori ships - the Asgard ships and some Ha'Taks made it out of the firing arc only to get under fire of those bluish close range weaponry - and they as well get obliterated. Another issue is, that they didn't know the strength of shields, nor weaponry of the Ori-ships before the battle. They couldn't possibly anticipate a frontal beam weapon that woud oneshot a Ha'Tak. Also, that first shot took out sublight engines of the Odyssey and the Korolev lost power as well. So even if they wanted to change their positions, they were not able to. If you're gonna suggest a strategy, maybe try one that's feasible without the benefit of hindsight.

Ori is kind of cheat in a case that they can send and guide the Prior a knowledge for many millions years since the age before the Ancient will Seperated from the Alteran galaxy How new species can fight against the Ori when they suddenly lunch 4 ori other ship through the supergate? However ori mother ship housed 2 weapons. Main front heavy energy beam weapon and pulse energy werpon on a side of their ship. Plus the frequency of fire rate of those ori pulse weapon are greater than both asgard and the goa'uld with their targeting firing system with not missed even 1 shot. As we see no matter where ha'tak drive in any side of ori mother ship The most deadly position are at front and 2 side. Like a strategy of Wraith hive ship these 4 ori mothership cover their weak point by help each other. And as we can see these 4 ship never abandon their position and stand strong in their position. Only the top, under and back of ori mothership would be the batter position which any enemies should stay... At least to buy a longer time for battle. I feels quite disappoint that ha'tak possessed 60 plasma cannon but can't fire all at once at will maybe cause it control by 1 cannoneers at peltak. And yes, took 1 short from ori beam if the enermy not been destroyed their ship system should be heavy damage, highly effect with their drive engine systems which caused them unable to change position. I quite envy ha'tak that they possessed special engine which non heat which make them freely move anywhere in needed. I doubted for long time ago... And also the Goa'Uld are scavengers; most of their technology was stolen from the Ancients and cobbled together (the replicators were shown able to improve Goa'Uld ships easily because they know how to optimise). This fight was a slaughter no matter what the allied fleet did. Beam weapons that could drop an Asgard shield to 50% in one hit and pulse weapons that quickly destroyed a Ha’tak. If one weapon didn’t get you, the others would.

@Dubanx Жыл бұрын
Vala, in particular, was a much needed breathe of fresh air to the show. As villains, the Ori were almost certainly the weakest n all of stargate (plot wise), but only a handful of episodes involved them directly. The episodes that didn't involve them directly (read most of 9-10) were really good. Season 6 also gets a lot of flak, because of Jonas, but if you ask me it had a lot of the best episodes in the series. In my opinion, season 7 was the low point of the series. The first 2/3 of that season seemed really formulaic and just dragged on. Like they were just going through the motions. Even if the Ori were weak, I agree that season 9 and 10 were solid and enjoyable regardless.
@Dubanx Жыл бұрын
@@brummyuk2151 The (not actually gods) Ori were just the goul'd but played up even more. Thematically, they added literally nothing to the story that the goul'd didn't have. Adria even acted exactly like the goul'd. Meanwhile, Tomin just felt flat as a character. He was boring. The entire thing stunk of desperation. Like the writers suddenly went "Oh, shit, now we don't have a villain what the hell do we do?" and pulled this shit out of there asses Especially when you compare them to much more compelling villains such as Ba'al, the Lucian Alliance, and even the somewhat sympathetic characters among the wraith. They fall way short.
@user-vy5uy9fo8p11 ай бұрын
@@Dubanx I thought back then, that in Season 10, last 3 episodes salvaged it. Other than that Season 9 & 10 were forgettable, Ori were really pathetic as they did not have any physical form and Adria could not really demonstrate enough power, the priors were just slaves and not truly their own masters the way the goulds used to be. The goulds were defeated by a coalition of Tauri, Jaffa, Tokra and Asgard after ruling the galaxy for thousands of years, whereas the Ori was defeated by the Tauri all on their own and it was so shortlived.

I've always thought the Ori destroying the Korolev on her maiden voyage would have had the same effect on the viewer as the Dominion effortlessly crippling, then destroying the USS Odyssey in Deep Space Nine years earlier. In universe, both ships were the most powerful that our heroes could field at the time, and they stood no chance.
@robf83492 ай бұрын
Definitely got the fear factor going in both instances. The Ori have the edge in fear induced by superior tech. They effortlessly annihilate everything thrown at them and don't even get scratched. To take the Odyssey out the Dominion rammed it with one of their ships. The technology was potent but the fear factor was learning that they'll sacrifice themselves with no hesitation.

@@DanMAD Thing is it is realistic. internal Damage and power spikes would not be unusual in a world with energy shields. Shields mitigate damage, not prevent it outright. Just as with real shields and armour, one may block the piercing damage of a Projectile, yet still take blunt force trauma from the impact beneath one's armour. Look at any battle in history with large armoured warships or tanks. Shells impacting the armour could still cause internal damage to crew and systems; even if the individual shells didn't penetrate the armour.

Pre-prepared tactics to deal with a superior enemy (focus on attacking 1 spaceship). At least 1 destroyed Ori ship should have justified such huge losses.

@TheValentineEnemy2 жыл бұрын
Nukes against shields are not exactly all that great, and that was tested all the way back in Season 1. The Korolev attempted to beam nukes aboard one of the Ori ships when they've noticed their shields weaken momentarily every time they fire the heretic destroyer 1000 but that didn't work out either....than they tried to send a nuke via rings but well the ship blew up by that time... ...that theory was later tested though with a Goa'uld bomb which didn't go off...I'd say the priors on board can detect such things and disable them before going boom or something.

Earth built those ships to take on the Gu'auld mainly. They can barely hold their own against the pyramid ships, 1 wraith ship and are always severly under powered both in offense and defense. Those Ori ships are 5 time bigger then anything they have encountered and pretty obvious they would be that much more powerful then anything they ever encountered. I'm surprise they went with a straight head on attack. They have always won using method that was unconventional. They should have expected the level of opposition, since they are going up against followers of ascended ancients that have gone evil.
@blackhawk1500 Жыл бұрын
Beyond stupid. Like you said, they had trouble against Ha'tak ships and tried to fight an even more advanced enemy with slugs and rockets... Same for the Ori... they clearly won the fight and should have gone directly to Earth.
