See, these little subtle characterizations have honestly been lost in a lot of media as of late. Most media would just have a character say "This person is a good grandparent, he calls his children every day" and spoonfeed the audience. Good writing has little moments like this that feel organic and believable. The characters know what they should know, and don't know what they shouldn't know. The confusion doesn't happen because a poorly written plot demands it, but because the characters are written as human beings with imperfect knowledge.

A fully grown man in his 40's finger paints and is very childish when SG-1 return with "i painted it! Is it good?" Jack doomed a technologically advanced planet to become a planet of literal retards. Thats something that would make Lanaia, the Destroyer of World, proud of.

In hindsight, naming the X-303 "Enterprise" would make a heck of a lot of sense since it's a top secret vessel n' all that. They can namedrop the vessel in casual conversation and everyone would assume that they're talking about the aircraft carrier or about the space shuttle or even about Star Trek. Obviously they can't due to legal issues but still.

@@Ragitsu There will always be a ship in the US Navy under the name Enterprise. USS Enterprise CVN80 is under construction as we speak. The legend that is CV6 will live on forever. The 303 would have been perfect to be named the Enterprise to carry on the legacy of the name.

Fun Fact: the Space Shuttle Enterprise was originally planned to be named Constitution, but a letter campaign by Trekkies swayed the name change to Enterprise, so there is legal precedence to name a ship after the USS Enterprise.

Everybody talking about O'Niell and the ship's name, but I'm more interested in how Hammond has his grandchildren at the top of his speed dial. It's a really good thing he stopped to yank Jack's chain and ask who he wanted him to call. Because if he really had called up his grandchildren and they found out about the situation, they would've wanted to keep one of the Asgard like a puppy.

It is literally quite often a plot point. Asgard and Earth ships are far superior to Goauld or Wraith ships on speed. Thors older ship could already go 140 lightyears a second. This ship even carrying the prometheus could go 200 lightyears a second. Ships in stargate are absurdly fast compared to other franchises. Even the Daedalus could go 1-8 lightyears a second. For comparison one of the fastest ships in Star Trek, Voyager went 0.00016 lightyears a second.

To be 100% fair, Star Trek did use Prometheus as a ship name no less than twice, most notably for a prototype Starfleet ship stolen by the Romulans. But it was never used as a series' "hero ship". That said, I wouldn't be surprised if an Enterprise slipped into the roster of Earth's starships at some point. Just not as a "hero ship", if you get my drift.

I mean, i wouldnt want *that* ship named Enterprise. Its the first of its kind. The first major starship of Earth. Much of what it is was untested/unproven. You wouldnt want to to give something like that a name with such a legacy attached to it. Now, maybe a BC-304 could be named that since that tech was proven and it was an actual line of ships. And in reality, they probably *would* name it that. But of course, in the show, it would probably run into some sort of copyright issue.

Even outside of the joke, they couldn’t name it the enterprise. That’s a navy name. Stargate command is the Air Force. Even if there weren’t a current ship with the name, the navy wouldn’t have a bar of it.
