The ori satelite weapon was strong enough to cut through the plot armor! The first time seeing the Prometheus destroyed was such a WHAT moment, was very impactful as it was such an established asset!

Honestly I'm shocked StarGate never used Prometheus as a Goa'uld story. Heck, that Tomb episode where a Goa'uld was imprisoned in a sarcophagus with a beast was basically a perfect fit for Prometheus's punishment in the myth.

@@RipOffProductionsLLC The show had plenty of greek references embedded throughout but I know what you mean, they were never active like with the usage of egyptian mythological deities and later on branched out to others such as Lord Yu, Amaterasu and Camulus. I suspect they might have wanted to keep them as potential story material for other races that have visited humans in the past and subsequently became a part of their history, like the Asgard and norse mythos.

This episode hits hard the first time. Real hard. Genuinely one of my favourite episodes tho. Seeing Tegalus (specifically Jared) again was both nice and heartbreaking. RIP Prometheus 😢 I got to talk to Damian Kindler (who wrote the first draft of this episode, “Ethon”) at a con a long time ago, and we got to talk about this episode. I remember him saying, “if you name your warship “Prometheus”…you better expect that damn eagle to show up eventually 😂 Man knows his mythology!

Stargate: Ark of Truth finishes the Ori storyline and Stargate : Continuum deals with the end of Baal. and us becoming the 5th race.

This is another one of those episodes with a lot going on. You've got the throwback to the season 8 episode "Icon" coupled with the Rand Protectorate's introduction to the Ori. You've got the destruction of the Prometheus and the death of Colonel Pendergast and several other members of the Prometheus crew. You've got another escalation in the ongoing conflict between the Rand Protectorate and the Caledonian Federation, and potentially the death of Jared Kane and everyone else on Tegalus. So many emotions elicited in this episode making it one of the best of season 9. I really enjoyed your reaction to this one!

One of the most shockingly tragic episodes in the series. The Prometheus may not be as good as the 304s, but it was the first Earth-built ship in the series. A tragic loss. Not to mention the potential mutual destruction of the Rand and Caledonian people.

When I first saw this episode I thought it ok, on rewatch I think that the episode ended on a sad note is quite fitting, and shows that as SG-1 moved on through the seasons it got better at delivering the heavier episodes.

This episode always gives so much weight to Ori advances in the Milky Way. Up until now they've been advancing and advancing, but here and there SG1 have managed to take little chunks back - reverting Garak to help with the plague, creating the prior device, but this episode so very clearly shows it's not enough. Not even close to being enough. The Ori are coming. They are better equipped to take our galaxy than we are to save it. They are untouchable. Where there's an Ori, there's a Way.

I feel like not too many people did, simply because he's not Hammond or Jack, but I think he's a great character. Very good at his job, and very likeable as well. This is definitely what TV Tropes would label a Wham Episode. RIP Prometheus and Col. Pendergast.

Me,in my opinion despite being a long time fan of the series since 1990s: *the Russian General was my favorite general of all time* the reasoning being "he wanted peace ✌🏼 🪖 with other culctures and as he said about the mission with Ori plague that made it earth he addressed this towards General Landry with *respectfully calm tone and demeanor* "general the purpose of these meetings or any other Isnt to Assign blame but to come together on reasonable concensus of any situation." 👀 This prompted General Landry to reaccess his own positions on at the base,just as a leader of the SG,as a father of Dr Landry and citizen of earth. Sometimes you have to take in the whole picture once its there instead of going off of wmotional ir illogical decision making skills .

Well, not exactly. The Pelorus-class HMS Prometheus wasn't destroyed in combat. She was sold for scrap in 1914. The Alecto-class HMS Prometheus eventually succumbed to the rot of old age and was broken down in 1863. Same with the brig USS Prometheus in 1819. Another USS Prometheus served as a repair ship in WWI and WII before being sold to a shipwrecking company. So, technically, they were all destroyed, none of them fell in combat. They just got old.

Major General Hank Landry aka Beau Bridges who comes from a family of famous actors. His younger brother Jeff Bridges was in the original 1982 TRON movie and the 2010 TRON Legacy movie as well and Jeff also played the villain Obadiah Stane in the 2008 Iron Man movie. Beau's father the late Llyod Briges was also a famous actor during the 1940's thru the 1990"s and played Commander Cain in the Original Battlestar Galactica tv series in 1978-1979. You are correct about the characterization of General Landry he is very stern and serious when he needs to be, and he will throw out some sarcastic humor at times to break the tension when needed. I figured you would be surprised at the tone of this episode with losing so many SGC members and the Prometheus getting destroyed. Get ready the craziness has just begun and it will be a wild ride to the season finale so buckle up.

One of the most painful episodes of SG1. It's not a bad episode, it's actually pretty damn amazing, but showing the destruction of a society due to nuclear war sucks. But obviously this episode is painful because we lost our baby. We lost Prometheus. We've seen it take its first steps. We've seen it defend Earth. We've seen it in so many journeys, and now it's lost, it's gone forerver.

It was not for a long time. At the end of season 5, Anubis modified Ha'tak ships managed to destroy Thor's shop. Asgard technology is very advanced, beaten only by non-ascended acients tech. But they are no match for ascended tech such as the one used by the oris or what Anubis was able to design.

If they had done so, the Rand(ians?) would have build another one, fueled by their hatred for Earth and Rand. The point of all that was never to destroy the satellite but rather prevent the war between Rand and the Caledonians.

Not Daniel, it was the rest of SG-1. The whole plan was to disable the weapon so it would be defenseless, and then they didn't find a way to see that through.
