While I do agree that Mitchell is fine, I still miss O'Neill and Carter I understand why this kind of casting change needed to happen for behind the scenes reasons, and they handled it far better than most shows in this type of situation do, but still... The original SG-1 cast just had that exactly right chemistry to make the show work, it's no one's fault that they couldn't luck into that kind of synergy twice in a row.

FYI, Alteran is the original name for faction who would become the Ancients and later the Lanteans. Those priest are the Priors of Ori, enhanced humans, GMOs if you will. The Ori and Alteran were once the same species but had a schism.

The Ori are not the Ancients .. They are a group that broke from the Alterians ( Ancients ) a long time ago .. The Ori are the ascended breakaway group and the Ancients are the ascended Alterians .. Two different groups of ascended beings from the same race ..

@@xadam2dudex I’m sorry however I need to correct you. As shown in The Ark of Truth, the Alterans are the breakaway group. Originally there was one group. One pursued religion (Ori) and the other science (Alterans/Lanteans/Ancients). The smaller group pursuing science felt that there was only one way out and that was to leave. So they left and journeyed across many galaxies until they arrived in the Milky Way. Eventually they left the Milky Way because of a great plague put upon them (most likely by the Ori). They fled to the Pegasus galaxy where they encountered the wraith. After the wraith had worn them out so much, they sunk the city and went back to Earth. Now ready to repopulate the galaxy, they used the Dakara weapons platform to seed life in their image throughout the galaxy. After doing this some ascended, some married and stayed behind, others did their own thing. However the key takeaway is that the Alterans protected their created life and gave them true freedom and free will. Juxtaposing the Ori who forced worship. Edit: Since they are the same species, they went on VERY similar evolutionary paths. Both treating Stargates and Rings, as well as ascending.

I once hated seasons 9 and 10, now I think they are quite good, with one key exception: The Ori are too powerful to play primary antagonists, and it resulted in the entire show plot becoming a hunt for a literal Deus Ex Machina. Deus Ex Machina plot endings and plot points are fine when in tight control, but the Ori plot line required it in a quite obvious way that lead to it becoming less about a fight against the Ori and more just staving them off while treasure hunting for a means to win. Compare the Ori to the Wraith, whom I think are much superior antagonists. The Wraith may seem overwhelmingly difficult to fight and driving them out of Pegasus requires major advances and strategic moves to even become close to possible, but one can see how the Atlantis Expedition could conceivably get there. I do not think one can envision a path to victory against the Ori like that, they all require "divine" intervention to even bring into the realm of possibility. I enjoy Mitchell a lot, and some of my favorite Daniel moments are in these latter seasons as he only got better and better over the years, they also have a lot of really good single episodes, but the overall plot line falls a little flat because it doesn't have that feeling of plucky humans fighting a greater power, it feels more like the Tau'ri just stumble from defeat to defeat hoping for a miracle.

Eh, by definition its _not_ a Deus Ex Machina. Its a Muguffin. A literal Deus Ex Machina would be if the Ancients somehow suddenly decided to destroy all the Priors and Ori ships and the Supergate before destroying the Stargates in the Ori galaxy. The Definition of Deus Ex Machina is a seemingly unsolvable problem in a story is suddenly or abruptly resolved by an unexpected and unlikely occurrence. Only the Ark of Truth could be considered one, but thats outside seasons 9 and 10.

Yeah man .. i - as a original og stargate fan - was really taken aback by cameron taking over the SG-1 Team.' While i still loved farscape and Crichton very much. Including Varla aka Claudia Black, it was a .... hard transition.. Hard and very compact.. Which made it work.... Having the OG team giving them off for the new season and direction, felt somewhat natural pretty fast. And heck .. the Ben Browder/Claudia Black chemistry did _really_ good on Stargate SG-1 ;) IMHO, they deserved a full reboot, right from the get go ..... but sadly .... we had different times way back then. ;)

I always assumed while the Ori gained energy from believers then the Ancients gained energy from the users of theirs technology. Because why would they build stargate networks if only a limited individuals were supposed to use them? The 4th SG show should deal about this morale consequences that their gatenetworks clashed ecosystems here and there as they had thousands of planets to experiment. Maybe they wanted to recreate themselves as what if some humans became time travellers and they became the Ori/Alterans. And it would be cool to hear about the envolvement of the Four Great Race as their opinion was very different : the Nox believed in natural evolution, the Asgard had the technocrata approach while the Furlings believed in constructed planets and ecosystems etc.

@@failwhale34 This franchise could easily maintain more spinoffs like Star Trek. Just they had to bring back Brad Wright or their own Kevin Feige who can setup a masterplan. It is also a shame MGM was not committed to do more tv movies. They were supposed to produce two every year and we could have had 20+ since 2011. AoT and Continuum had 7 and 10 million dollars budget while they earned back 12 and 16 million $ if I remember well. These budgets are still much cheaper what streaming services spend on contents (like See for 20-25 millions / episode). Here we have the loyal fanbase and the detailef lore, but they still sit on it. Gossips come and go about second movie, reboot, soft reboot, tv show or BW verse tv show.

It was a shake up to the feel of the series, but I stuck with it due to my autistic tendencies. What did help keep me “in”, were the musical themes and tropes. I’ve always found music to be a heavy influence for me The orchestral parts with the haunting chilling choir. Omg - the “mountain walk” from the ark of truth blew me away.

There also a follow up movie of SG-1 "The Ark of Truth". Actuaally there's 2 SG-1 movies that dropped after the series. You already said a couple episode ago-ka-whoosh. We all knew they had to come up with a new villain for the final 2 season's but the first time I saw it when it originally aired, it was a serious eye opener. Like holy crap no more playin. The sh@#$ gettin real now. See the "Ancient's" were originally the Alterrans. But at one point a number of them came to disagree with the sharing of knowledge thus were formed the Ori faction. In time as you progress through the series you'll come to know. I don't want to say more than that. I don't want to spoil it for you. As I said buckle up for a ride.

Yeah, one could think with everything going on with marvel, you gotta get these writers back. But no. They decided against humanity ending this great series of events. I really miss the time back then because i used to watched it with my deceased dad. We didn't get along well so it was a point connecting us and watching on German TV (RTL2) every Wednesday evening. I hope he really belived in accension at the end because it was maybe just my wish to see him be free and without the problems we all face here together on earth.
