I believe you should use the platic for whatever you want! By this point, you've limited yourself for enough cycles, so it might be time to move on. Having more mobility will jsut allow work to be done much more efficiently.

Considering this is a let's play on a small dlc planetoid, Dreckos are usually considered a "fair" source of long-term plastic and fiber source. So I'd definately agree: 330cycles in, and self-imposed restrictions on items from the printer, I'd also argue it's time to get more ranches up, not just Glossy, but also regular Dreckos aswell as stone hatch ranches (which would give more than enough coal for two planetoids' power needs, and a lot of extra food). When it comes to the eggs, I'd suggest dropping them in a tub of liquid, that way, once they hatch, the critter will automagically drown and evolve to meat. Just make sure dupes can reach the eggs in order to keep the population control incubators topped up (my first few attempts at this (long before the dlc, though), I accidentally exterminated all hatches, shine bugs and Dreckos on the map, as I forgot about dupes needed to reach the eggs 🤣)
@salemprompthous38202 жыл бұрын
@@neilangelomolleda7283 for early-game setup of radbolts, keep it simple. Plant a wheezewort, and take rads directly off it. Or, a solution requiring less dupe interaction as the wheeze needs to be fertilized, use shine bugs. Same result, though you'll need more bugs for the same ammount of rads/cycle. The bigger contraptions on rads can wait till you have rad-suits and sustainable nuclear reactors ready. Ranching the shine bugs can also be a power positive process, as you can lock them in a single tile surrounded by solar panels anywhere on the planetoid. Enough bugs will emit enough lux for the panels to produce power 24/7. Hope this helps your early rads 😁

With the critters, I've found that the easiest way is to have an auto sweeper in the ranch that first sweeps up everything. It has two, three or four drop ofs; one to the kitchen (meet from dead critters), one to the infinite storage (egg shells and whatever else may end up there), one to the coal generators (coal obv), and one to a separate kill chamber (all eggs). The eggs are all dropped in 1 tile of water surrounded by air flow tiles cause it looks nice. Without anything extra, critters die and an auto sweeper can pick up the meet and egg shells. But the same auto sweepers can reach 2 incubators, and it's just 240W each. This ensures that those incubators are always filled, while the rest of the eggs are left to.. evolve.. With this method, critters born in incubators will always be taken to the ranches and fill them up, excess eggs will always be drowned off and you have a very stable and completely automated supply for your meat and coal generators. I'm 600 cycles in, steady on coal with 2500+ tonnes of ignius rock left for my Stone hatches. Try it out and good luck 🤞
@MalcolmAkner2 жыл бұрын
You can of course also have conveyor filters, but that's at least heavy into the yellow tech. But that's a neater solution for sure!
@salemprompthous38202 жыл бұрын
I've been doing pretty much the same, since the Automation update (a good while back). Though, I keep the incubators unpowered. If powered, it cuts into the ranchers' duties aswell as produce unnecessary heat (atleast if my kitchen is inside the base. If outside, I don't care about heat generation, ofc). And for the extraction of materials: I usually habe one or two dupes dedicated to running around, carrying stuff, so separating isn't that much of a concern. One line for eggs, one for materials and one for food. Eggs into a tub of liquids, Food always goes directly to a deep-freeze storage, and a central location for the rest. Edit: and, with volcanoes, you'll have an endless supply of igneous rock for the stone hatches

You can see it at around the 6 minute mark. I think he ignored the fact that the incubators have a higher priority, because his cookingtask is always higher in priority then the deliverytask. Critter evo chamber works by having a critter sensor in ur ranch set to 7, i think. then u have sweeper and conveyor rail that is only turned on when the extra egg is deposited in the ranch zone. then it ships it out into the critter evo chamber. where the egg is dropped... and over a few cycles evolves into its final form of bbq. and then an auto sweeper to pull out the meat and place into a freezer in co2. its the best way to do food in the game and stone hatches, plastic dreckos, shovevoles, slicksters, and pacu are the best at doing this. to be fair. pachu probably is the fastest and best moving forward with spaced out due to the rad buff it makes. surf and turf probably will be the best option for dupe food if one does anything with nuclear power... and frankly nuclear power probably will be the end game best power. while magma biome is good for starting power, nuclear eclipses it. and power via petroleum is great for the oil biome where slicksters are, but oil is i feel is still beneath nuclear imo. francis jon with the plant mutation on sleet wheat that gives u rotpiles... i mean its too good.
@salemprompthous38202 жыл бұрын
On the food, shove voles are the "best" in terms of pure kcal, as they give 10kg meat each. Ranch one, and every egg it lays gives a tamed vole, which will lay a new tamed egg before it dies of starvation. Self sustaining cycle. But, on the note of radiation, combining shove voles with pacu to make surf&turf is the better play cause of the rad-resistance "Seafood" buff. On the note of ranch size: the automated extraction of eggs gives room to have 8 critters per 96tile ranch, which is sufficient to have on the drop-off settings (no need for extra sensors or automation) and have the eggs go directly to a critter-locked liquid tank. If dupes can reach the eggs, they can fill any incubators that needs to be filled. Just make sure that the egg goes directly out of the room (inside a tile or door) on the rails. If this isn't possible, having 8 critters, and an egg travelling inside the room, will "trick" the critters into thinking the egg is still in the room, which will give the "cramped" debuff, which then would be better off just being 7. This is, however, not the case for pacu ranching, where one pacu requires 8 *liquid* tiles per critter. (The ranching note is info I've gotten off FJ's tutorials, and I've modified his designs to be better fitting for my base layouts, though the notes on food is mostly my own testing)
@salemprompthous38202 жыл бұрын
And yes, for power production, nuclear is top tier. Petrolium is better used for rocketry or plastics, and use the excess petrolium to make oxygen. Late-game, I usually reserve the excess petrolium for LOX production.
@MalcolmAkner2 жыл бұрын
Build whatever you want with the plastic, it's not a lot. The game is designed so that transit tubes are expensive and require an oil biom to feed it. Would love to see a petroleum boiler!
@salemprompthous38202 жыл бұрын
If you, like Nathan, manage to start off a glossy ranch early on, oil biome is completely excessive in terms of plastic. Give it enough cycles, which he's stated this let's play will definately have, and you'll end up with enough glossy plastics to tile up the entire cluster. More ranches would only reduce the time required, same with access to oil. Also, when the transit network is built, there's (usually) no need to add more plastics to it. The occational super-heated debris might melt some, but even that is completely avoidable.

Use the plastic :) but add some sort of challenge to force yourself to get rocketry going, even if it's just a basic/temporary thing. Maybe say every 50 cycles or whatever you have to have built a launch pad on another planetoid.
@salemprompthous38202 жыл бұрын
Every 50 cycles a bit much, considering it's planned to go for 1000s of cycles, as Nathan said in the very first episode. Though, I do agree that some timetable should be implemented. E.g "By the end of cycle 600:planetoid 2 base is self-sufficient and pretty", or something
@callum.dokkodo2 жыл бұрын
@@salemprompthous3820 reason I say 50 is because it's a round number, and it's just enough time to go to a planetoid and get some basic stuff up and running. I'd like to see this playthrough push Nathan out of his comfort zone a little. A little more chaotic. But not gonna die on that number a plucked out of thin air

Plastic tiles block more radiation than regular tiles, but their main function is to increase runspeed, same as plastic ladders. For the best radiation blocking tiles, use metal tiles built with lead (info on this is easily seen in-game). Double tiling with tvis is more than 100% rad-blocking, while every other material requires atleast 3 tiles to be 100% effective.
