Star Joy codes are easy. YO is yellow orange. OY would be orange yellow. B is blue, BG is blue green, GB is green blue. BV is blue Violet, etc. Other special codes are J for jewel tones ( basic red, yellow, etc). MP is for muted and pastels, S for skin colors, CC for color correction, GS greys.

Thank you Karen, another great video I found looking for gold combos. I really like the Star Joy Gold, it is one of the few budget sets I own and well worth it because it has been designed to help newbies train their eye to see undertones correctly. I have learned a lot about color theory since getting them. I now can correctly pick out true green from yellow-green, and and true blues from blue-violet tones. That might be minor for some, but it is truly helping me make brighter pictures with less mud.

Both images look fantastic! I especially like the one with muted colors and pastels. I like the Star Joy Gold set because the first 51 (I believe) pencils are organized according to the color wheel in sets of three with a light, medium, and dark. After that are the Jewel tones, which is the more pure colors, then the Skin Tones (light and dark) and finally the grey scale. I've been coloring for a few years, but with this set, I'm getting a better handle on the color wheel and how to work with analogous colors.

I have been wondering about these pencils, but haven't bought them yet. I own several budget sets, and I am trying not to get any more for awhile. However I feel a purchase coming soon. Lol

Karen 💖 What an amazing difference between the two pages, I would have never guessed you used the same pencils on both pages! Each page is beautiful in its own way and I love using bright colors most of the time but when I want a subtle page like yours on the right I know I can get that from these SJG…I have to say your key page is gorgeous! I recently ordered these pencils, so I will give this page a try using them. I saw Kori using them on another Hanna Karlzon page, and they look like they go down smoothly.
