Dude I think you’re really being too hard on this plug-in...It’s kinda like a role player think Fender Champ, Gibson Skylark Would you do an 80s hard rock album with them ...probably not. But you could do an edgy clean sound à la The Smiths, The Cure, even more modern sounds with the great ambient reverbs like Charli XCX or Petit Biscuit. The “garage sale” amp models seem perfect for gritty characterful sounds like Stax/Motown/Muscle Shoals, Black Keys/White Stripes and “Nugget” era Garage Rock and Psych. The more boxy and woody sounds would be good for early funk like Sly Stone/James Brown/The Meters Which translates to modern artist like Gary Clark Junior and Leon Bridges. Probably even good for that Portishead/John Barry/Serge Gainsbourg type vibe This developer also makes a tape deck emulation, resampler and bit crusher called DEGRADER!!! and DAW LP Vinyl player simulator. Now from this developer, I wouldn’t expect a perfect version of a Plexi/JCM 800/Silver Jubilee, I would expect something more of the Silvertone/Univox variety. It’s like buying a Les Paul and expecting it to sound like a Strat With all due respect, I think you forget when you put these videos out in the world that not everyone who plays guitar is looking for an 80s 90s hard rock sound. Why do you think Fender is really pushing the offset guitars this year?? Supro Has created a whole new lane for guitar sounds. Even the old Harmony brand from the 60s has been re-introduced. BTW It’s entirely possible to take those thinner guitar sounds and layer them together to form a bigger composite hard rock sound. Nobody records just one track for a killer guitar sound. Just because it sounds good in the room doesn’t mean it’s going to sound good in the mix and vice versa. Just sayin 😏😌🙂

These are all great points and I should probably revisit this in the contexts you mentioned. I'm going to pin this for future reference.

Totally agree. I like the styles you mentioned and this works really well for me.

Agree with Ron,the second half of the video when you explored the more ‘shittier’ tones really interested me. Personally I’m more looking for early tame impala tones over guns n roses sounds. Each to his own I suppose,as I write this Stark is on sale at £9.99 so I’m tempted , thanks for your well balanced review👍

I think this plugin personally makes every guitar I run through it sound like absolute dogshit. I love this company but this amp sim is probably the worst thing ive ever run my guitars through. I like low gain tones clean, dirty, high gain, and everything in between by the way and it just sucks ass hard at every point

Honestly, I am not even into this kind of sounds and I think this plugin sounds pretty amazing. I am not a fan of guitar music you present on this channel but still, I enjoyed listening to all these different flavours of guitar sounds. I think Klevgrand is an awesome developer.

Klevgrand makes many of their plugins that are specifically catered to the lo fi audience. I think that is the case here. I think the clean tones beat just about any sim that I have and I have a ton of them since I re-amp everything.

Exactly! I don’t come to Klevgrand for high gain anything. There’s so many other options that already do that anyway. I came for the clean tones, the mellow stuff, the Lo-Fi stuff.

I got pretty good distorted sounds using my own IRs instead of the built in cabinets. I must say it's a very good versatile all in one plugin. Just to sit down and practice without much hassle...

I need to get around to trying that

Working with it today; put it in AUM and rolled off above 4.5khz with AUM filter. Sounds much better, easier to work with.

That garage sale amp tone was noice. Didn't dig it at first until you started playing those little lead licks. Very Zeppelin I sounding

One of the best reviews of this piece. Oddly enough, I happen to agree with you on every point, lol. I can’t figure out the gain structure on this. I thought you might be able to get rid of some of that harsh unintentional-ish distortion by pulling it out of the final stage but it appears you cant. I will say, I have a tendency to be more accepting of the distorted tones when listening to someone else play them, lol. But the EQ centers are in odd places. But, great review (and it helps you can really play well).

If Leon can't get a decent tone from this app then no one can. For the same money I think the Zoom G1/G1X Four and the Nux MG100 sound much better. Problem with this app it's called Stark, maybe if they it was called Thor by Asgard or Gamma by Hulk it would beef it up and no sound so nasally and whiny.
