Just in case you don't know - Reaper already (for half of year I guess) has an delta-funsion that show you only what plugin add or remove from sound, so you can (kind of) solo the FX. Just hold the Alt and press mix knob in up/right corner.

The scientific nerd-bro way to explain this plugin, is that it is a subharmonic generator combined with a high frequency exciter that actually uses added noise instead of wave clipping the higher frequencies. There are provisions to adjust the shape [envelope] of the trigger so you can fade in and increase the tail. The added noise can extend the sound such that it feels like early reflections from a reverb. K that's my story k bye.

Noise and snare drums go hand in hand. Noise can an effective way of snare drum synthesis, as used by certain classic drum computers but also by 8 bit video game sound chips. The noise generator on them is often used for creating rhythm elements. I think I once saw a sound design tip (that may have been dr. Mix, I can’t exactly remember) where some white noise was added to a recording of a snare drum to add a bit of extra flavour to the sound. A lot of minimalistic electro music like Kraftwerk use noise generators to simulate snare drums.

I felt pretty happy after hearing that insanely clean sub energy the plugin generated. I first heard of Klevgrwnd on iOS. They’ve always had some interesting designs. I still use the Pipa plugin every now and again for sound design. It’s just synthesized vocal selections. But it’s has a unique sound.

I own both and I agree but Fosfat is a bit easier to setup, and I’m not sure it doesn’t have something under the hood because it does sound sweet. At the least it’s thought out and tailored really well for drums.

I feel like you should sometimes look through the presets to get some ideas of what the plugin can do. It's not always necessary, but sometimes I feel it can help explaining what the settings do and how they correlate to each other.

if you have a daw with an envelope follower modulator (like bitwig), you can easily buid this with any synth (lets say phase plant would be great but really almost any). this video was great nonetheless, as it gave me a new idea of how to add energy to drum loops. update1: i have to amend my comment right away: its not easy LOL. First off you have to use a second lane, secondly you will need to also have midi triggers (have to think about this some more, if this is avoidable), then you have to figure out the proper envelope follower settings, oscillator shapes, levels, ar sweet spots and same for noise. Its a nice excercize tho and I think once you got down what works itll be alot more flexible (just save your own sweetener as a preset device chain). update2 (lol): okay it is very easy to build this but i needed to use bitwigs fx grid. it will be some work figuring out layering what exactly will work. so i give a tentative thumbs up to fosfat for saving time. if you have a sth. like bitwigs grid, id definitely say its worth experimenting with enveloper follower based sound layering on drum loops yourself tho 👍. update 3: okay im done replicating fosfat. it sounds imho almost exactly the same with my grid device. took me about 40 minutes to build. i also added free parallel saturation as it fits the same purpose anyway and can be turned off. i literally replicated everything with more flexiblity, just omitting the chance. Basically looks like this if anyone wants to save some time: imgur.com/a/SfItQ76. All those mixer devices can be replace by amplitude devices and there are probably other improvements to be made, i havent really used the grid before. (the envelopes trigger the first mixers volume, the second mixer is to set the overall level for noise/sine independantly).

Fosfat looks like a really cool plugin. Really. I almost want to buy it, actulally. But i already have a sick tool for this kind of job: "Texture" from Devious Machines. It's a must imo. (very cheap for such a beast imo) It offers so much amazing features and options. The VST also have his own sound bank of textures/noizes/ambiances/whatever built in, and you can even use your own wav files. And much more. It's a neat one 👌

my guess is its using FFT and then use the the spectral sheet of the analyzed music sample each frame to add noise to "fill" whats missing, and then uses a time-domain transient shaper/compression algoritm to shape the filtered noise.

I love these folks products, but I think I can do most of this with Ableton Vocoder - which is insanely powerful for atypical vocoder tasks - like added sparkle to hats and percs, introducing textures into source material etc. Don't want to take away from this product, and definitely not snake oil but I passed on this one. If you don't own Albeton then it's a solid buy.

Sub bass reinforcement plugins have been around for a over a decade. Nothing new. Ableton's drum buss includes it. Noise reinforcement has been trending for a while. Cableguys offer the best so far. It's nice to have both in one but you can't select a custom noise file or sub bass sample. I guess you can't complain for the low price though. FYI this kinda felt like an advert.
