The dance scene was amazing. For what was only like 2 panels in the manga, which didn't even show Fern and Stark together, the studio went all out. They hired a choreographer to provide them with the dance, references and such. They also had the music composer of the show create a song specifically for this scene, even animating the string instrument players to correctly match the music (she cut that small part out so I can't put a timestamp, but they only show for a brief moment).

The cloth animations of Fern's dress during the dance and Stark's jacket during his fight against the dragon show the level of work the studio put into this series.

Fun fact that dance was all hand drawn and not CG and also a professional Ballet instructor supervised the whole dance and they even brought a whole Orchestra just for for the dance. That goes to show Madhouse dedication to this anime

This is when most of the fans start shipping them, their dance scene was perfectly and beautifully made, like they are made for each other. Both lost their family, both powers are exceptional, and both trained by former members from hero group.

I think most people started shipping them in the episode where Stark didn't celebrate his birthday and Fern gifted him a bracelet. This episode just showed us, fans, that their relationship is silly and awkward at times, but also fairy tale dreamy and romantic. For me it's a natural progression of all their interactions until now.

One thing: Frieren and Fern have only been traveling to Ende/Aureole for about a year or so -a little longer than the time they have known Stark. Fern and Frieren have been on the road since Fern was 12 and she is now 16. Frieren and Fern have known each other since Fern was 8 - remember her comment about knowing Frieren half of her life.

Poor Sein, prob wishing the attractive older lady from the town he rescued was there to dance with him. *if only* things right? I love when Fern says it doesn't suit him when Stark knelt the first time, only to look at her hand after lol. Then the dance sealed the deal. So happy Fern got someone near her age with to go on a journey with. Feel really bad for the father, parting with his son in anger only to never be able to see him again. And you can tell he was super excited to come along Stark to try and fulfill his son's wish if he died. Stark bringing up quite a few times during that he has to go on a journey to bring back stories to Eisen. True dedication and respect.

I think you have the amount of time they've spent on this journey is a bit off. Fern says she's been with Frieren for 4 years and Stark has only been with them for a year and he actually joined them near the start of their journey, so it's really only been a year. But yes the young lovebirds look great together.

I guess I can kind of see that, since my interpretation of the name is that Frieren comes off as rather cold to others and is also almost frozen in time / slow to change. I think that's also why her teacher was called 'Flamme' (flame), since she set things in motion for Frieren, like a fire melting the ice. Taking that a bit further, the name Frieren can evoke an image of being alone in the cold or maybe being stuck while others move and change much quicker. So I can see that meaning sadness and melancholy in this context, but the word "Frieren" itself does not mean anything outside of the "feeling cold/freezing" aspect. :)
