If that is true then why can I smell and taste weed that someone is smoking dozens of feet away from me? It's because I'm breathing in the air they are blowing out. Just because you can't see the smoke doesn't mean you are not breathing it in. I have known people who were not smokers but who were married to extremely heavy smokers, but they never contracted lung cancer. When doctors say that someone has died from lung cancer caused by passive smoking, they are guessing. They cannot be sure, because they cannot be sure that the patient wouldn't have had the cancer anyway. It's all about the balance of probabilities. In any case, we are not talking about passive smoking indoors here; rather, we are talking about people smoking _al fresco_ . The chances of a few wafts of secondhand smoke doing others harm when they are smoking in the fresh/open air is negligible. This is more about precious people not wanting to smell the smoke emanating from a smoker's lit cigarette. I agree with you: this will kill of the little business left for the still surviving publicans. The pub trade has been beleaguered for years now. Ever since that twerp Blair instigated the original smoking ban. And that only came about because of pressure put on him by his wife, I believe. She hated smoking with a vengeance.

Tobacco taxes raise £8.8 billion a year which helps fund the NHS. They aren’t taxing or banning obese people even though it is increasingly unhealthy and costs the NHS huge amounts. They don’t tax or ban alcohol even though it is addictive, hamful, and kills people. It’s all hypocrisy.

They will be saving £2.8 billion for the NHS but then losing an additional £6 billion that also helps fund the NHS. Banning smoking will actually cost the NHS MORE MONEY

But when I was growing up, and I used to have to go to have a consultation with a GP, they would usually smoke in the consulting room whilst examining you! 🙂 That was in the good ol' days! Even though I am no longer a smoker - I wish I could still afford the pleasurable habit! - I will defend the right of smokers to enjoy a cigarette until my dying day! If you look at the numbers obesity outweighs (excuse the pun) smoking in yearly costs to the NHS by roughly £4 billion pounds. Diseases related and caused by obesity are on a similar scale to smoking so why is nothing being done about the causes of obesity?.
