The Dallas Stars are building up a great team and have a great prospect system. Been to the Western Conference Final the last two years. I bet they going to be the next Dallas area team to win a Championship. The Rangers stumbled this year (especially with injuries in the pitching staff early in the year), but they finishing the season strong and should have a strong season next year. Also, the Mavericks made the NBA Final and are looking to continue their momentum. Heck, even the Frisco Roughriders (Texas Rangers AA Affiliate) have had a fantastic season and have a great shot of winning the Texas League Championship coming up. Also, the Lone Star Brahmas (North American Hockey League, Tier 2 Junior's) won their League Championship last season. If you have lower level teams like Minor League Baseball, junior hockey, etc. Please support, they don't get the media attention they deserve and are often fantastic games to attend. The Cowboys need to wake up and make major changes. What happens the day Jerry Jones is completely gone?

As a Cowboys fan, it dawned on me recently why the Cowboys haven't been able to win since 1995...and the answer is...Jerry runs the Cowboys like a business. What I mean by that is you can't be afraid to tear things down and start all over. Jerry Jones is completely unwilling to go through a rebuild phase as, in his mind, it will make the Cowboys briefly irrelevant on a business level. Tear down some things, be okay with a 4 win season if it means you are steering things in the right direction. Until they get out of this mindset, they will never win anything

Firing Jimmy Johnson after winning back to back Super Bowls cause Jerry Jones ego was rattled was the undoing of the Cowboys. Yeah they won the SB in the ‘95 season w/ Barry Switzer, but that was with most of Jimmy Johnson’s players from the first 2 90s championship (with exception of Larry Allen & Deion). Cowboys won’t get over that hump of at least getting to the NFC championship game or even a SB appearance until Jerry Jones actually hires a GM that isn’t himself or someone in his family. But that isn’t happening anytime soon.

I've said this consistently: Jerry Jones' problem is that he cannot accept a situation in which someone else gets the chunk of the credit when his team wins, and we have proof of this because he chased away the head coach who helped the Cowboys become a dynasty. Jerry wants to win, but more important to him is that he and he alone has to get all the credit for winning. If that can't happen, he'd rather have the team tank with him at the helm than win with someone else being the primary reason his team wins. EDIT: Typos.

What really destroyed the 1995 going into the 96 Cowboys was first Michael Irvin's arrest and his 3 game suspension. Jay Novacek retiring leaving a huge hole at tight end that the Cowboy would NOT fill until Jason Witten arrived in 2003. Receiver Kevin Williams was not the 2nd receiver who could take over games like Alvin Harper did as the 2nd receiver and be a deep. The man just fell off a cliff and disappeared in 1996. Cowboys fan here (used to the hate so go ahead, I've heard it all) The short of the long is this: The entire organization lacks a killer instinct. For whatever reason, making the playoffs is good enough for basically the entire team (although, for some reason, Micah Parsons doesn't strike me as being ok with flying to Cancun in December every year). It feels like the entire team is content to get paid and go home early, which we have done better than absolutely anyone else in NFL History. I think it starts at the top, but it is pretty clearly a systemic issue that permeates its way down the organization. So what do we do? Well, damn I don't know, if I did, would I be armchair GMing in the KZbin comment section?
@richgreene50384 ай бұрын
Micah never leaves cancan. He has yet to make an appearance in a playoff game. He is listed as starter and it appears he plays in the games but his stats proves he is a no show.
@ashleighelizabeth59164 ай бұрын
The reason they lack a killer instinct is because Jerry won't hire a coach that will put the fire of god in them and won't let any coach that wants to do that have free reign. The whole reason Jerry and Jimmy fell out was that Jerry was meddling in day to day operations of the team and going to the press after Jimmy said a player would be benched for bad play and telling them that no that player wouldn't be benched after all. The final straw came when Jerry said anybody could coach the team that he (Jerry) built to a Super Bowl which doubly BS since it was Jimmy that built the team in the first place. And why did Jerry stick his oar into who would be starting and who wouldn't? Well it's because he had to be the only genius in the room and couldn't stand that Jimmy was getting all the credit for building the roster and running the team on the field as well. Since Jimmy left Jerry has been the one that has final say on the roster and he won't let any coach bench somebody he signed because it would be an admission that he screwed up in adding that team to the roster. Put it this way, if Bryce Young were in Dallas he'd been starting until he couldn't play anymore because of injury or retirement.

After watching the Cowboys for years I've come to the conclusion they are a very "by the book" football team. What I mean by that is, all the way back from Tony Romo to Dak Prescott, along with their play calling on offense and defense (partially under Mike McCarthy) they almost NEVER adapt their playbook for the postseason! The Cowboys are good at developing talent within players and they do this by having them run the same plays over and over. It does bread consistency in execution and consistency is the name of the game in the regular season. However, when the post season rolls around and other teams have had time to study their playbook they fall apart because they never give themselves the options for a second play! The pick 6 thrown by Dak in the 2nd quarter during the super wild card weekend against Green Bay (while Green Bay was up by 20) told you everything you need to know. Green Bay's defense KNEW where Dak was going to throw the ball even before the snap! Dak is a "by the book" methodical quarter back to a fault. No secondary options, no disguising their formation on defense. Green Bay read them like a book! It a classic case of self delusion when you see something working over and over so why change it? Um because other teams have access the footage of your games all season, that's why! They could try doing the same and adapt to them, but apparently that too much to ask for Mike and the rest of the coaching staff along Jerry himself who is too preoccupied with keeping the Cowboys as more of a brand than a championship winning football team. We may call it "chocking" but I am arguing that this is just who the Cowboys are by design! Note: this is coming from an Eagles fan who is more than happy to point and laugh at the Cowboy's attempts to have me take them seriously but even I am embarrassed watching it.

Just to be clear nobody in Dallas or in the organization came up with that shit! NFL Films decided to call them that in the late 70s and tied it altogether with the image of Roger Staubach (former naval officer, Annapolis Graduate and also known as Captain Comeback) being this patriotic hero for all Americans. Coach Landry HATED the label and most of the players disliked it as well. Unfortunately it stuck and has haunted the team ever since. I lived in Atlanta during the 90s and 2000s and towards the end of the 90s the local radio guys started calling the Atlanta Braves (MLB) America's Team and it just made me cringe when I heard them do it. It's dumb AF for people to promote those kind of labels.

I think last year was the point where cowboys fans accepted reality. Last year’s team could have done it because they had everything they needed to win, MVP caliber play from Dak, fantastic weapons on offense, a ridiculously good defense that saw DaRon Bland break the pick six record, they even had fantastic kicking from Brandon Aubrey. And then they got to the playoffs and it all came crashing down. I’m from the Dallas area so the Cowboys are my local team and I will continue to cheer for them, but I’m much more invested in other teams seasons right now that have better outlooks, particularly the Lions. It’s sad what the Cowboys have become because I and many others think they could be so much more than they currently are, unfortunately Jerry is still here and that alone is a damning statement.

Nice video, good historical perspective of this team since the 90's. The one constant has always been Jerry Jones. Another glaring symptom of this problem, the last quarterback drafted by the cowboys in the first round was Troy Aikman, Jones keep trying to find a diamond in the rough, the next Tom Brady, to make himself look like some sort of football guru, going through a string of failure, no name quarterbacks in the process. For those of us who were there in 90's when Jimmy Johnson first came to Dallas, the Cowboys went 1-15, they struggled as Johnson put his team together, adding Smith, Irvin, Novacek, Woodson, etc. Jones does not have the patience or the football acumen to build a super bowl team. Never has, never will. He is Al Davis..

Even Brock Purdy himself has appeared in more Super Bowls than the Cowgirls in, what will very soon be, the last 30 years.

@Bendaak : Also, the lists of franchises that've been to their first Super Bowl (regardless as to the W/L end-result), as well those that've won* their first Super Bowl, over the three decades that've passed since the Cowboys last visit and win are both embarrassingly long -- embarrassing for both Jerry Jones and the drank-all-the-kool-aid true-believers of the Cowboys fan-base, who delusionally believe that they'll win every year no matter how mediocre they obviously are to everyone else (*includes ones that appeared in Super Bowls prior to 1995 but were not victorious in those visits)
@shruggzdastr8-facedclown3 ай бұрын
Also: Most-embarrassing fact from the list of those franchises that've been to their first Super Bowl over the past thirty years since the Cowboys' last visit and win is that the Carolina Panthers (an expansion franchise added to the League the year after SB30) have been to not only one, but two, SBs over that span of time -- losing to the Patriots both times, I believe

@@shruggzdastr8-facedclown Agreed, it’s such an extreme embarrassment for the most valuable sporting franchise of all time. The Panthers lost to the Broncos in 2015, by the way. I never would’ve thought they’d get to participate in 2 Super Bowl games with the Cowboys reaching zero in the same timespan. Difficult to comprehend!

@Bendaak : That was SB50 when Carolina lost to Denver, right (thanks for that correction, by the way)?

I honestly am of the opinion that Jerry isn't as upset over the lack of playoff success as he lets on. Because people almost talk about them more when they lose in dramatic fashion!

Jerry Jones has a Jimmy Johnson problem: his delicate ego won't let him admit that it was bc of Jimmy why his franchise was so successful in the mid and late '90s -- not him

I’m old enough to be able to drink vote join the army rent a car I’m Eagles fan. This is so fun for me to watch this. My dad has to suffer through the time that the Cowboys were relevant in the playoffs

In my opinion, a big reason for the downfall was draft day 1998. They could have had Randy Moss. They passed. That was the day the 90's dynasty died.
@keithantigiovanni27943 ай бұрын
They didn't pick him because the media was saying they need to pick nice guys and moss had some bad pr . Then they didn't pick him and got criticized for it.

Fun Fact: The Dallas Cowboys have one of the longest loss streaks in NFL History. They haven't beaten The Denver Broncos in regular season play since 1996.

I recently went to the Cowboys/Ravens game last Sunday. The place was packed, the pro shop had a line out the door and the concession stands all had lines the whole game, so whats my point? As long as he keeps making money, Jerry Jones is never going to change. And I don’t have any hope it will change when he dies, because Stephen is just like him.

I first started watching the team in the early 80s when they were making their NFC Championship appearance vs Philly, SF and Washington. I watched in dismay as Coach Landry was run out of town on a rail barely 3 years after his last division title and only 6 after his last NFC Championship game appearance. D-bag Skip Bayless was among the people calling him senile and demanding he be fired. I chose forgiveness back then because I was a Miami Hurricanes fan and already loved Jimmy Johnson. Then I watched with disgust as Jimmy departed as well and my disgust has only grown since then. Now I laugh when the team falls on it's face because it beats raging and crying. As long as Jerry is alive this team is not getting past the division round and it might not even after he is gone given the rumors I hear about his son Stephen being even worse than him. Jerry cursed this team by the way he treated Coach Landry and Coach Johnson. The only thing I can't figure out is why people continue to give that fool their hard earned money for such a substandard product. The only thing that truly matters to Jerry after all is money and the teams has made him billions over the last 30 years while winning nothing. If home games were half empty for a season he'd get the message maybe and do something different but that will never happen. So who is worse given that fact, Jerry? Or the dummies that keep giving him their money?

To be fair Aikman wasn’t exceptional go look at his numbers but he performed when it counted. I’m soon to be 42 so I remember those 90s Cowboys they were great. The beginning of the end truly began after that ‘96 Divisional loss to the Carolina Panthers.
