@@Blankford777 I experienced it as a White Sox fan and forgot so many key moments that literally had me balling. The biggest moment, to me, was when Hernandez came in with the bases loaded and no outs, and gave up no runs.. Anyways, I haven't cried/teared up like this since watching some of those well made ESPN docs for make a wish and heroic people. Hope this is mainly not White Sox fans that see this too. The team is forgotten, but I just now realized how incredible the run was, and what we actually accomplished(yes we, lol).

Good point. I looked at the team's record that year with and without Frank in the game. The team actually was slightly better WITH Frank. Decimal points better. So, had he played more, it seems it would not have hurt their performance. 99 wins always speaks for itself, but it is possible that 100 or a bit more was possible. And 11-1 in the playoffs - you can't knock that, either - only the 2nd time (and last time so far) it's ever been done!

G EJ That’s true, the Giants that year weren’t the best team during the regular season, Bumgarner included (the stats that you mentioned were regular season stats). However, Bumgarner had a 1.03 ERA during that postseason, and won NLCS and WS MVP. I was responding to your quote that one man can’t carry a team to a long postseason run. You probably meant that not one player could single-handedly carry a team through a regular season and help them make the playoffs, and I agree with that. But once in the playoffs, one player could relatively make a large enough impact for his team to make a deep playoff run, due to the smaller number of games played during the postseason.

They swept the defending champs and celebrated by pounding beer at Fenway. The '05 White Sox were absolute gangsters. They lost 1 game all Postseason, the first ALCS game against the Angels. There hasn't been a more dominant Postseason team since. And the truth is that they were that dominant for almost the entire regular season, as well. The only reason it didn't quite seem that way is that they fell into a slump during the last month of the season before getting back on track right before the season ended. They mashed everyone. I truly have not seen that much of a disparity between the best team in baseball and everyone else since the Yankees teams of the late 90's.

"I've got to tell you, all year, we had to listen to people out there who told us we didn't have the team to do this. We were in first place at the break, and people didn't want to believe. We win the division, and people say we're gonna get beat by the Red Sox - didn't happen. We go to Anaheim, we've got to hear about umpires' calls. We go to the World Series, and now we've got to hear about domes and all kinds of stuff. I was trying to think in my mind what would make people think we're a good team." - Paul Konerko
@bordaz1
@bordaz1 4 жыл бұрын
Don't know where you got the quote but I appreciate it, and Paulie was right about that perception. We were always 2nd place in that Division, first to Thome & ManRam's Indians and then to Santana & Mauer's Twins. Kenny Williams would trade the whole farm system if he thought he could get a few proven vets, and a lot of people thought that was an unreliable strategy. But most of all, as you and I know, the White Sox are an invisible franchise, based in an equally invisible blue collar neighborhood in a city that might not be big enough for two MLB teams.

That was fun to relive for a moment- I’ve been a Bulls/Bears/Sox/Blackhawks fan my entire life; watching the ‘85 Super Bowl was awesome, and the decade that Mike and the Bulls terrorized the NBA in the ‘90s was indescribable, the 3 Stanley Cups were amazing, but 2005, I just, you know, I don’t have the words. I cried like a child that night, and watched and/or attended every single game that year. I’m so happy they took Frank along for the ride, he definitely deserved it- there was just something so magical and beautiful about the entire season. Wire-to-wire leading the division, ‘small ball’, outstanding pitching that just meshed for an entire season, everyone played their part and did it well, and a bunch of guys most people had never heard of turned a single season into one I’ll never forget. Thank you for this amazing video that made me want to pull out my post season DVD box set and watch it again.

I remember this amazing season like it was just yesterday. They were so damn good from the very beginning of the season, but in the end of the season, things were getting scary because the Cleveland Indians started winning games like crazy and were catching up to the White Sox in the division. Luckily the White Sox were able to survive that insane chase, and went on to make history in the playoffs and World Series. Our pitching was God Tier in 2005, Mark Burhlie, Jon Garland, Freddy Garcia, and Jose Contreras as our starters. Bad Bobby Jinks, Orlando Hernandez, Dustin Hermanson, as closers. The offense was great too, Scotty Pods, Tatahido Iguchi, Paul Konerko, Carl Everett, A.J Piersynski, Jermanie Dye, Joe Crede, Aaron Rowand, and others like Pablo Ozuna, Geoff Blum and of course Frank Thomas at the very end of his baseball career. This was such a legendary season, Scott Podsenik hit his only home run in the entire season when the team needed it the most, a walk-off home run in the World Series for a victory. The Paul Konerko Grand Slam to reclaim the lead in the World Series too. The LA Angels were the ones that were a threat to the 2005 White Sox, and in game 2 of the AL Championship, they could have defeated us in Chicago twice and heading us back to LA down 2 games, but that AJ play saved us and it really messed up LA’s momentum the entire series, because we not only won that game, but the entire series with our great starting pitchers. So many great memories and moments.

The 2005 White Sox were a lot like the 1990 Reds in terms of single-season dominance - both were not expected to do much coming into the season, both led their divisions wire-to-wire, both got off to crazy hot starts and cooled off a bit during the second half of the season causing some people to downplay their prospects, both steamrolled through quality opponents in the league playoffs, and both swept the World Series.
