If you never heard of him, go with your cheap music like Spice Girls, and every crap brand new after 1986... Real music was from 1950 to 1985... If you think that the s-l-u-t Taylor Swift is music... I came of age in the 80s and one of my favorite bands was Asia. I discovered ELP and later King Crimson through them. (I started on keys.) I know John Wetton had his struggles with the bottle in the 80s, but overcame them. He never regained the success Asia had early, but always had class despite his mistakes. You can see that here, jamming with “the boys” - who are clearly honored to play with their hero. RIP Mr. Wetton. You’ve been an inspiration to me.

@@StarlessBandNJ - I’m going back a reevaluating, and finding so much I missed. StarlessBandNJ It was a monstrously good gig. Changed my life... And as a young girl of 16, Boz was the most beautifully refined looking young man..!! He resembled paintings of Jesus.! Seriously! Fripp was just sitting there with these SOUNDS emanating... Mel was playing wildly and freely... Boz was humble and thoughtful and very appreciative of the audience. And sang very beautifully- perfect vibrato and pitch. Ian Wallace was funny and just great. My wacky friend caught a drum stick that he called out and asked for! We were leaning on the stage with our elbows a few feet from Boz, and Mel was also quite close. I learned many years later it was their last gig. April Fool’s Day, 1972, Birmingham, Alabama. Glad you’re doing originals. I wish I’d stuck to that. I was in a prog band in LA in the 80s. :) I’m a classical musician: piano and vocal. Kinda retired tho. All the best dear!! I generally agree. However, I think that there are a number of very good newer bands out there. For example, I think that everything that Omar Rodriguez-Lopez puts out is good. A lot of interesting prog metal/hard-rock bands too. That being said, I wouldn't put them up against King Crimson or Pink Floyd.
@ricardos67557 жыл бұрын
I also agree with both. Those who think that those 70s were a everlasting fountain of music talent, but also agree that there is, finally, a good set of very young bands coming to fore as we speak and making original and great music. However, I think that to look for new and current prog bands you don't need to be limited to "prog metal" as it is common these days... Quite the contrary, you will find very interesting and quite intelligent music in bands that do run away from those more aggressive beats and sounds. As I wrote previously, that Italian band Promenade is a good example of exemplar playing and crafty composition, blending influences from KC, Gentle Giant, Allan Holdsworth, Canterbury, Italian prog to really create new music. But that is just an example... Moriodor or The Loomings are other examples... And I am more than willing to know more about new prog music that doesn't have to limit themselves to metal and hard rock variations....Sorry to intrude in when what would be in order would be to comment on your truly excellent interpretation of Starless! And excellent it is...

reactorfallout How old are you? what THE HELL are you saying, OVER-REACTIVE!? Shes just remarking something that is under your nose. I am 26 and I am thrilled too that other young people like me appreciate King Crimson nowadays. Does it make me pretentious about my age or any wiser? A 13-year old boy could say the same without being pretentious... wrong conclusion you took! Her argument came only to show that in a Bieber-Rihanna-Gaga era, good'n old ROCK AND ROLL STILL LIVES (and stupid people in youtube like you too).

***** Thank you, that's what I didn't want to answer, when someone is being rude there's no point to bother about it.

Impeccable instrumental cover in and of itself but the fact that you performed this masterful take WITH JOHN WETTON is so so cool. Great job to all of you, each captured the FEEL of Bruford, Fripp, and Wetton, not just their note choices. Thank you for this!

I keep visiting this video often. You were so lucky in that time. I discovered King Crimson and prog rock in general recently on mid-2020 and even with that, Keith, John and Greg's death hits me a lot. Plus, you guys did a incredible cover! I love when the guitarrist gets excited and stands up

I am the guitarist in this video and it was the opportunity of a lifetime for sure. We were very lucky. We were at the right place at the right time. I've been listening to King Crimson and prog rock as long as I could remember. There is tons of great music in this genre new and old. I appreciate your comments and your listening.

@StarlessBandNJ11 жыл бұрын
I used to work at a music school as a guitar teacher and he came in to do a clinic for the students and my boss asked us to learn this song to play with him. We only played it together two times before Wetton came

Wowww! I've had a private love affair with this track - also for about 40 years - and as a musician, know what a tough job you guys did playing it so well in quite challenging circumstances. From the first few bars, you had the hairs standing up on the back of my neck. In fact, I felt quite emotional. And I was trying to work at the same time. :^) How cool to have John Wetton there singing! Thanks lads.
