Well perhaps I DO mean to sound negative (just a lil' bit, not excessively) when I say that G5 has, so far, largely turned out to be a complete abandonment of all the things that made G4 endearing to me. I think the reason Tales is performing well is purely because of how accessible it is. Each episode is uploaded free onto KZbin, where it's very easy to both find and binge all of. G4 relied on viewers to not only watch television regularly but also have access to the channels it aired on for legal viewership rating to count (something that was already dropping in the 2010s due to streaming) and Make Your Mark relies on people having a Netflix account that also airs episodes in your country unless you use a VPN (something that’s seriously dropped due to Netflix’s own issues regarding account sharing, animator layoffs etc) Tales is also very cheap to produce in comparison, meaning that despite its lower quality (from an adult perspective anyway) we’re not going to see it disappear anytime soon

i agree though i do hope that they realize that accessibility is the biggest reason and not that quality. They are heavily relying on 2-8 year olds to watch youtube but seem to forget that they toy buyers are the ones that grew up with g3 ,g4 and are buying for nostalgia aswell.

Yeah, as someone who was part of the target demographic when g4 aired, but wasn’t from the US I basically had to pirate episodes from the beginning (until they released physical dvds or aired episodes on our Hub equivalent with about a years delay) so the fact it’s globally accessible on something kids use anyway is something I wish we had. I’m really glad kids now have it as an option though, as low quality as I personally think Tales is, it’s still way better than a lot of the other slop out there (particularly so with the revival of Elsagate content aimed at them) And the toy sale thing is also a really good point!!

The fact that the special is called "Secrets of Starlight" does make me wonder if it will have to do something more than just starlight, but specifically, time travel. Apart of me feels like they'll end up going with the idea that G5 takes places in an alternate timeline that starlight created back in season 5 but separate from the actual timeline of g4. If this is the end of MYM then i wouldn't be surprised if this is going to be their answer to everything that has happened.

It definitely feels like the writers are trying to have their cake and eating it too when it comes to making this generation completely new while relying on the past events of g4 which hasn't fully work as of now. So far, it's just used to lure in g4 fans without much thought on how this new generation could affect the old one. Honestly, if i was one of the writers, i probably would have made g5 take place in a different universe, specifically the world where the pony of shadows is. So yeah, the new generation movie would be more about the new manes trying to stop the P.O.S. and maybe they try to figure where he came from which could bring back the g4 mane 6 to come and help defeat him once and for all and spiritually pass down the torch to this new generation of ponies. As of how P.O.S. is there and not in limbo. Maybe the spell didn't worked probably. Or just use the real grogar.

The Starlight Glimmer thing feels the same as when MLP Fever said Opaline was Radiant Hope from the G4 comics. I can see why you came to this conclusion, but I think it's too random and far-fetched and probably not going to happen. I could be wrong, of course. As for MYM ending... I'm kind of indifferent to both series by now. If they keep going I'll probably watch them just out of curiosity, but if they end I don't think I'll miss them that much.

I’m going to throw my hat in the ring and say Starlight is NOT returning. The colors on that title card are a near perfect match to Issy’s mane. The gradient and everything. I think the fact that she and starlight share a similar color scheme is just a coincidence. And unless Izzy is somehow a weird descendent of Starlight (actually that’s a cool theory) I don’t see Starlight showing up.

Some of them have written for G4 in the past. One of the lead people on G5 seems to be G.M. Berrow. She was on the FIM team for a long time and from what I have heard was actually brought on to work on G5 because she was so familiar with the world and characters of G4.

That never stopped Hasbro before. Seriously, i heard that the G5 writers were late into the development process of their universe, which was originally standalone, and had already completed most of it when Hasbro mandated a connection to G4 at the last minute. It's not that the G5 writers hate or refused to brush up on G4, necessarily, they just had no time to make the connection work. Now though, they've had more time, and after how good Chapter 4 was, i'm optimistic they can use Starlight properly (if that's actually what they're doing)

Gonna be real, with how "Tell your Tale" is not only the perfect set up For young audiences, it's also easier to access and be widely used as "Magic is Friendship" and "Make your Mark" had a few more obstacles that make it a bit hard to access. From "Magic is Frienship" being mainly available on Cable at Certain times of the day and "Make your Mark" being locked behind a Netflix Subscription along with "Magic is Friendship" for a while. "Tell your Tale" is something kids and/or parents can quickly look up on KZbin, which kids are on more than ever these days, and watch the series at Any Time, Anywhere and However many times they like without paying for a subscription or waiting through a set schedule for it to show up. So it's not that big of a surprise to know kids were more familiar with it and liked it more than the other series.

Here's my theory to what secrets of starlight good be. During one of the episodes of the new season, Zipp rewatches Twilights Sparkles' message and comes to the conclusion that there's another source of her magic in the G5. She also makes mention of unicorn magic and the different spells that could exist. I suspect that the tree in Bridlewood is that other source of twilights magic and that's why Sparky is so drawn to it. What if when the unicorns, pegasi and the earth ponies separated and sacrificed their magic, Starlight Glimmer kept a record of all the unicorn spells and these spells get into the wrong hooves.

I"m not convinced that the "Secrets of Starlight" special has anything to do with Starlight Glimmer but we will find out when we get closer to the release date. I think Make Your Mark (especially the early chapters) has been a bit of a disappointment for the larger viewership, as opposed to the target demographic, hurting its performance. If the the views for the new chapters improve significantly then maybe Make Your Mark could get a reprieve.

I really don't think that starlight glimmer may not return, but the logo of the title does give me a idea of what it could be. It could be that the main characters of G5 will might find the cave where starlight glimmer was storing cutie marks, and it could be more within the cave, but this is a idea. They should make tell your tale the main series, release 20+ min, 26+ episodes. Use the 3d models/media for a higher quality movie like "A new Generation". Put more budget & effort to animating & Writing episodes for tell your tale. My Little Pony has always been in 2d format, and they were able to give content in a cheaper and less time consuming way. If losing make your mark means we get a longer series of 2d episodes then I'm in. The 3d format is modernized and is the most common media and hasbro should use it for a higher quality movie that reveals a big plot that will create an opening for the next 2d animated season of (Tell Your tale). Just like Winx Club and Monster High having a 2d animated series, and occasionally 3d animated movies.

I would be surprised about MYM ending so soon, but knowing shows like Inside Job, and the forced binge-clump airings of Stone Ocean, seems even "based on popular franchises" aren't immune to the same treatment of ~22 episodes falsely promoted as multiple seasons/chapters. Even Sonic Prime looks to be on the verge of that with "Season 1" being 8 episodes- it's likely a 24 episode production season split into 3 parts. Streaming loves to do that. It explaine all the "random Season 2 being suddenly greenlit" for most of those shows.

Why do I feel like when opaline attacked they all went to discords world but instead of starlight going. To his world she made the spell that she made in season 5 g4 it let’s say finished it off she time travelled to the future so she didn’t age maybe starlight ridge is her palace and like do u know that dragon thing at the end of s6 it was tirek’s sister or sombra becuz they’re immortal so my opinion is it will have a make your mark s7 and that will be the last season so instead of only a few episodes it will have 26 episodes like G4 because as you hear at the end of s6 in G5 the tiger thing says “brother”. I think it will 100% include Starlight Glimmer, the color scheme, the attachment g5 has to g4. It will maybe be a flashback of some sorts where they learn about Twilight's student Starlight Glimmer or they actually manage to time travel back in time to save the future somehow. And judging by the doll leaks of what seems to be a new generation of Equestria Girls, I don't think it's a coincidence that they're ending the series. Also I think that Tell Your Tale is massively better than anything Make Your Mark has offered. Got to be honest, I had hopes for G5, but at this point I agree with Hasbro's course of action. Better to wrap it up with a bow and box it away forever than leave it on a cliffhanger they don't deem profitable enough to resolve. Separating it from G4 would be great, but I doubt they'll be that generous. The really sad thing is that they were able to reach such a massive and surprisingly diverse audience with G4, and instead of trying to reach out to do it again in G5, they decided to box it into a target demographic. As an almost 20 year old male, MLP FiM should hold no appeal to me, and yet it did. It's sad that they didn't even bother to try to have the impact that they already proved they could attain.

I would think that they at least made the same amount of money or, likely more, off of the increased viewership of the show when they had people from the age 5 to 40 watching, as when they just tried to appeal to the target audience. I may not have bought the toys, but I'm sure other people of my demographic did, and that only makes Hasbro more money than before.

While it *could* be that Starlight is somehow returning, that could just be us giving G5 too much credit and the Starlight refers to literal Starlight and not the pony. Granted, this *could* be the special where it's finally revealed that G5 takes place in 1 of the alternate timelines Starlight created back in the season 5 finale, thus "Secrets of Starlight" would have a deeper meaning, that meaning the fact the Mane 5 learn their world isn’t from the original timeline and thus how things are so different from Twilight’s era, maybe even G4's Starlight making an appearance by crossing dimensions because she wanted to see what had happened to the timeline she'd unknowingly created, but, like I said, that may be us wanting to give the show more credit than it deserves because we honestly want it to be better, even those who don't like G5

I mean I get that. Dollars and cents here people. I do feel bad though. Though they sown bad choices, and they have to be pulled up like weak seedlings. One, Netflix. Netflix is a dying ship that I’m surprised they put it on there. Most people don’t find Netflix worth the price. Two, not having a plan with the movie. Even if there was just someone making the personality constant with the movie would help so much. At least it not fully going away, and maybe I’ll see what this new season has to offer. But I’ll doubt I’ll like it. The characters are too flat to form a connection like in the movie.

Well from animation perspective tale your tale is cheaper and allows wackier humor almost like tom & Jerry or anime-ish reactions or behaviours and like you pointed out.... attention span on kids is difficult followed by quick and fun for them.....as for story on mym....I'm not suprised if it's hard to keep it together due massive shift in animation style and slightly more serious tone which makes it hard to compete compared to g4

So basically Hasbro JUST discovered the Magic that is KZbin. Like their are ALOT of shows and series POPING OFF on KZbin as of late. (Hellva Boss by vivsi pop, all those series made by Glitch Productions, Killer Bean. Just to name a few) And also discovered the "Minimum Effort Maximum Profit" Method of making money. "one &only ponable content series" could also just he them talking about "content" in the context of online content, like how equestria girls and pony life were at the end if g4's time. I mean, they never said "only ponable series" they specified it as a "content series". So it may mean this will be their only online content exclusive mlp series, but will have stuff that is not merely a content based series later on, maybe for tv or direct to dvd spinoff stuff. I think they specified it as being the only onsble content series instead of the only ponable series because they mean it is gonna be the only content series of mlp, but not the only mlp series overall. Edit:secrets of starlight may give us lore about starlight having been given secrets to hide before the crystals were forged to take magic away. It could also maybe explain what happened between g4 and g5, giving us info on the crystal empire specifically. Starlight hiding secrets in the library of her best friend Sunburst in the crystal empire would make sense, and explain the crystals in this logo for the special. The mane 6 of g5 head to the remains if the crystal empire, or maybe the newly restored empire since magic came vack, and they find starlight's secrets in the old library. Or maybe even find the alicorns and starlight had been hiding there with the crystal heart preserving their magic during the sealing. All except for twilight, as she clearly sacrificed her magic in order to seal all magic away. Whoch the downfall of the alicorn if Friendship eventually led to the separation and propaganda of the 3 tribes. With only a small group keeping that magic alive in each if the 3 tribes. Those 3 then held their respective crystal and passed it down through generations. The royals of the pegasi kept their crystal, alphabittle's ancestor held the univorn one, and sunny's ancestors held the earth crystal and kept the memory of twilight alive, while the others forgot after a while about what truly happened. We'd maybe even learn sunny and the ithers are somehow descendants of cgaracters in g4, or at keast sunny is. She is the descendant of an alicorn, hence why she was the one given alicorn magic out of all her friends. It could gave got to izzy since she was the only ither one who wanted to help spread friendship hetween tribes too at first, but yeah. It would also give us the final exlanation of that stained glass showing twilight giving the crystals to 3 ponies to keep them safe.

Now Make your Mark looks really good it's about to end. Sad. I can understand Hasbro and I'm not the target audience. I kinda thought they would target everybody like Bluey. I was thinking, while watching your Chapter 4 video, that it would be a very good idea for Starlight to be introduced in some (likely non-physical) way to explain a few things, chiefly however the fuck Cutie Marks work. Considering she figured out how to _remove_ ponies' Cutie Marks, I assume she would've had a hand in whatever's going on in that regard (provided nothing happened in Seasons 8 or 9 that contradicts that, I haven't seen either yet). It'd be a lot to explain, but if anything can explain anything it'd be Starlight. As for her appearance, I hadn't considered that as a possibility and it would certainly be interesting (maybe she was cryogenically frozen?), but based on the name of the special, it sounds to me more like the Mane Five are going to find a secret vault of her knowledge that fixes or explains everything. If I were to be writing such a chapter, I'd gear nearly everything towards that goal to fix as many holes as necessarily possible and evoke some of that old Friendship is Magic spirit of adventure and antiquity, a la the Season 1 Premiere. If only... But tbh idk tho. I have no idea, practically anything can happen, especially since I've only been keeping up with G5 through commentary, *although* I _am_ putting my money - 10 whole squids - on Starlight Glimmer making _some_ kind of return; while it could be a red herring, *_Secrets of Starlight_* is an awfully strong phrase if it's just going to be about the hidden qualities of photons emitted from massive balls of plasma in the celestial realm, right? Would be a great addition to the story with time traveling Starlight And honestly I like TYT more because not a fan of 3G aesthetics and the story give more character insides as MYM even if it’s only 5min per episode. Chapter 4 was so stupid until the last episodes and seems so wasted on possibilities. Sadly also ep 54 of TYT was very rushed… let’s hope a classic cartoon like TYT will be go for more seasons. If Tell Your Tale is going to the new "mane show" there are couple of things I want to address... The writers are going to wrap up Make Your Mark to setup what new plotlines and arcs Tell Your Tale will be diving into. As you mentioned that Tell Your Tale seems to be the most popular of the G5 branch so far. The characters might have to get better, Chapter 4 has shown some lengths of growth within the cast, and with Misty now with a cutie mark and Sparky drained of most of his powers, there is no time for fooling around. The personalities from the movies should also be taken into consideration, along with a few new additions that the characters could endure: Zipp studying more into alicorn magic and potentially exploring places outside of Equestria (hopefully seeing more the dragons, yaks, and maybe new mythological creatures); Hitch leans back into his sherrif state, getting help from Queen Haven's guards as well as becoming a more responsible parent. Pipp can learn to explore other hobbies outside of social media; Izzy starts expressing her arts and crafts skills along with teaching Violette Rainbow (from the comics) new tricks.; Sunny can studying more into be a leader like Hitch, and dealing more into the mystery of her father's messages, and Opaline's plans. Misty, now that she is on the Mane 5's side, can explore more into talents: maybe visiting Briddlewood might bring back some memories. Also, Sprout, I'm kind of on the fence since in the latest episode he was still kind of a jerk and narcissist, I did a think a scenario in which, he bumps into Misty and Posey (like the latter poking at the former for something), and then he defends Misty about it, but it think it could be too much of a stretch; the most I see could happen in the future, is him standing up to his mother. As for the show's new possible plot.... now that Opaline has more fire magic, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that elementals and alicorns are going to play a key part in the series going forward.
