Thanks for this! Electric engineer here and I would have done that power consumption test the same way. Could get marginal accuracy improvement with a clamp ammeter, but seeing as any errors in measurement are mostly equal between your test cases, for the purposes of relative power use this was perfect. And 50% power reduction is substantial, and mostly efficiency losses, plus the Starlink router which uses more than 3rd party routers.

Thanks for that! Yes, I am not an electrical engineer, but I did try to keep as many things equal between the tests as I could. We've been using the 12 volt solution for a couple of months now, and had it on our rig when we went cross country. It's been great, and having it permanently mounted it great in that we just have to pull the cable out and hook up the antenna when we hit a campsite.

If you could connect to your router, it might have been the cable. I noticed that the cable changed from yellow to black. If you were me, I would have swapped the RJ-45 cable to the router first Router to their provided “power distribution block/device.” 😊

I actually connected the original router and cable back up to the equipment using the Starlink cable to the antenna to prove to myself that their router and cable works. But I didn’t include that in the video, because I thought my video was getting kind of long! LOL

@@JamesandPaulsRVAdventureshello sir. May I know the configuration of your router?
@JamesandPaulsRVAdventures2 ай бұрын
@PambujanParishTV it’s a NETGEAR NIGHTHAWK router- set up with a 5G NETWORK- nothing fancy or unused!

Hey guys- this is awesome info as we are planning our van build! Question to you- do you ALSO have a cellular setup in addition to the Starlink? I've heard some people are using both- would love to hear what your experience has been! Y'all are awesome...
@JamesandPaulsRVAdventures2 ай бұрын
The only cell backup we have is our T-Mobile phones we can use as a hotspot. So far, we've had no problems with Starlink...with the exception of a campground where our site was totally under trees. We used the full extent of the Starlink cable to position it in a small opening in the trees and did get service, but it was much slower than usual. Unfortunately our T-Mobile service was 2 bars of LTE so that wasn't any better. So far we are sold on Starlink - but just got a notice that the roaming plan for RV'ers is going up to $165/month but now includes in-motion connections if you have an in-motion antenna (which costs more $$)

This is a great solution it seems if you are boondocking or drycamping... do you use the same setup when you are in an RV park and connected to power?
@JamesandPaulsRVAdventuresАй бұрын
Yes! I have the 12 volt solution permanently mounted and use it regardless if we are boondocking or connected to shore power. It's great to have a permanently mounted solution that I just need to pull the cable out and set up the antenna.

@@JamesandPaulsRVAdventures Nice! Could you post up pictures of how you have yours mounted and connected?
@JamesandPaulsRVAdventuresАй бұрын
We don't use a mount for the antenna, we just use the kickstand that is built into it. The way I showed the 12 volt mounted in the bay is how we have it mounted in the rig. We just pull the cable out of the bay and use the kickstand on the antenna and position it using the app for guidance. Hope that helps!

Hey thanks for taking the time to make this video, you both are appreciated, GOD Bless , I do wonder if I can use this Xtar somehow with a 12V Car Socket plug on my EcoFlow Delta 2 Max, do you know if thats possible?
@JamesandPaulsRVAdventures2 ай бұрын
You are welcome...glad you found it helpful! I don't know why it wouldn't work if it is a 12 volt power supply. It does not come with a car socket plug, but it does come with a connection that ends in two raw wires.. (with a fuse in the line) so you could probably fashion one...or if the Delta 2 Max has a direct 12 volt port you could probably fashion something that plugs directly into that, since its already got an inline fuse in it.

Nice, I'm looking at getting this POE injector and 12-56V converter for my Gen 3, how are you liking it so far? Any noise/heat issues? Thanks!
@JamesandPaulsRVAdventures2 ай бұрын
We've been on the road for four weeks now, and once we get to camp I turn it on and keep it on 24 hours a day - no problems at all so far. I can't talk to the noise/heat issue, as we have it mounted in a bay under the rig (as I showed in the video) but it hasn't overheated there, and when the bin is open we don't hear anything from the device. So far, I am very happy with its performance.. and having it permanently mounted with the router makes setting it up super easy.

30% of your battery overnight ? How many Amp Hours of battery do you have ? LOL You keep saying volts when you meant amps.

Yea, I kept saying volts when I meant amps. I tried to clarify in the text I put on screen- you can tell I’m not an electrician! We have two 100 amp hour lithium batteries in the rv.
