This is a great kit. I think I will build something similar but using the Jackery Explorer 100 Plus if it can fit in the case. It's 99wh which would be about 30'000mah giving a little more run time per charge and it has LiFePO4 batteries with a 100w solar charge controller built in. It's not really much bigger than the Anker at 4.9"x3.4"x3.4" so should be another good option. I have a 60w portable solar panel so I can see all this working well together.
@jamierichardson4628 күн бұрын
Thanks for comment about Jackery Explorer 100. I'm just in the planning stages, and this seems to solve a few more scenarios: 1) Passthrough: Most USB power banks do not have passthrough. It's unclear if the Anker referenced does passthrough (alternatively, the Anker 737 24k seems to allow it). I can imagine a scenario where you are charging it in the car but want to use it simultaneously. 2) Solar: The Jackery Explorer 100 certainly can have solar charging while using it. With a solar panel (say 40w+), you could be completely off grid much longer (not 100% of course). Certainly a bigger power station could run it 100%, but that is not as portable.
@jeffgendron195928 күн бұрын
@@jamierichardson46 Yeah I agree, great points. Using an actual solar generator rated power station like the little Jackery opens more options especially if you want to run nonstop with solar during the day. The Jackery is rated for 100w USB PD so if the Starlink mini was doing a lot of work pulling close to its max of 60w that might limit the amount the overall USB charge input or taking in solar. Not sure exactly how that would work out but could be another condition in that setup.

Unfortunately, about a week after installation, my router suddenly turned off and hasn't powered on again, despite trying all the recommended troubleshooting steps. I was wondering if there's a way to use a Starlink Mini or any other emergency solution in such situations? Would it require a second subscription? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I'm still new to Starlink and doing my best to navigate this setup. Thank you so much for your channel and for any assistance you can offer. I'm yet to find that powering the Mini on 12 Volts with 60watts of available power provides a stable operating experience. My Testing shows that 19 or 20 Volt with a 60-90 watt supply will boot successfully and the Mini will run reliably. My mini at peak load when booting will draw 68watts very briefly and when idle will draw around 22-30watts on a 19-20volt supply.
@StarlinkHardwareАй бұрын
I’ve seen similar reports. Officially Starlink wants 100 watts available, but the put the bare minimum at 65 watts. Like you said, the boot up sequence usually pulls more than normal. If the supply isn’t rated high enough, you’ll get a boot loop. I saw a similar thing with my Gen 3 dish. Hooked up to a 100 watt DC supply it won’t boot up. Increase that to 120 or 150 watts and it works fine.

With the thicker foam pad installed, you do have to kind of press down on the lid while disengaging the latch. Otherwise the upward pressure from the foam makes it difficult to open the latch. Try the thinner piece of foam that comes in the case and take out the thicker one, see if that helps. Might have to trim down the thicker foam piece if there is too much wiggle room with the thin piece.

Direct to cell will be just basic text messaging for at least the first year. Starlink and T-Mobile plan to slowly add more bandwidth as more DTC satellites are launched. They are for two very different use cases.

All Starlink units provide access to Starlink.com and the Starlink app through the dish, without active service or cell signal. However, it's best to have it already set up with Starlink, with your service plan paused. With the new 2-step login system, you need an email or SMS code to log in to Starlink.com. If you are already logged in through the app, you can get around this, but it's still risky if you ever get logged out for whatever reason. I hope Starlink fixes this soon and allows some way to bypass the 2 step login process in certain conditions. Also keep in mind, you will need Mobile Priority for ocean access. Roam plans don't work more than 12 miles from shore.

It’s not necessary, but with 12V you can’t use the included 50ft cable. Too much voltage drop. You need a shorter 10-15ft cable. I think the main issue is that people have so many types of USB-C devices. Starlink says the requirement is USB-C that can deliver 20V at 5 amps. That's 100 watt output. Only more recent USB-C devices can output that much. I've heard from several viewers that 60 and 65 watt USB-C ports aren't working with the Mini. It's probably not the cable itself, because it's extremely simple. It's that people are trying to use power sources that aren't compatible with the Mini's requirements.
@jimshorts326321 күн бұрын
So how are you paying for the access? Do you have to pay every month while it sits on your shelf waiting for an emergency? I have heard you can pause the service for when not in use. Is there a limit on how long you can pause it? I mean if you bought this for emergencies and paused the service immediately after setting it up, then did not have an emergency need for 4 years, would you still be able to unpause and use it?
@StarlinkHardware21 күн бұрын
You can pause service to avoid paying monthly until you need it. And then unpause when needed via the app. Like any other emergency item, it’s best to plan for some period maintenance. For example, plan to get it out and turn it on every year to check the battery bank and allow Starlink to update software. These kinds of routine preparations can help avoid issues for when you actually need it.

After purchasing it I then got a link for the newer model so I ended up sending it back for that one which included the power base. I don't know how you would work it without the power base?- as it has to be charged up and then there is the issue would there be room in this case for the base as well?

You can charge it from basically anything you can plug a USB-C cable into. I have a USB-C phone charger that I use. The USB-C ports on the power bank can either output or input power.

Do you just power up and play, or does this require a subscription / monthly fee?
@StarlinkHardware12 күн бұрын
It requires a subscription, but you can keep it paused until you need to use it.
@nekocal27 күн бұрын
Except if you can keep it powered you CAN stream movies for 3 days 👍

I found a weatherproof starlink usb c to dc on aliexpress. 3,5,15 meter lengths.

$172 for the case? Wow, you're really raking in the cash on that one!

Why would you have this just for emergencies when you have to pay a monthly subscription fee?
@StarlinkHardware24 күн бұрын
You don't have to pay the monthly fee if you keep your subscription paused. It can be activated directly through the dish if you need it.

Yep at the time I made this, they hadn’t released it yet. But I just did a test with this battery bank and the Starlink USB-C cable and it works great.

I can't access my device due to the passcode issue, and even when I try 'Forgot Password,' no code is being received. I've sent an email from another account to make sure my main email is working. What should I do to resolve this?"

what do you recommend for the standard starlink, i live in an area prone to power outages.
@StarlinkHardwareАй бұрын
I have a new 12V conversion video for the Standard dish. Once converted to run from DC you could use just about any battery system with it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGjNoJ-dicuUgrc You could also just get a portable power station that has AC outlets and run the Standard unmodified from that.

Does the battery pack support pass through charging? Like can I use a solar panel to keep the bank charging while it's powering the mini?
@StarlinkHardwareАй бұрын
Yes it can accept up to 100 watts of input through the USB-C ports.
@GaryV-p3h3 ай бұрын
Can it be powered directly from a portable solar panel or at least if you added one to this set up you could recharge the power bank
@StarlinkHardware3 ай бұрын
You would need to use some kind of battery system to deliver stable power and voltage, like a portable power station or power bank. Plug the solar panel into an input and the Mini to an output. For regular usage I would recommend a power station that is larger, has more capacity, and more input options for solar.

How long does the 20k mah powerbank run the starlink for? Before having to recharge?
@StarlinkHardwareАй бұрын
You would probably get 2-4 hours before needing a recharge.
@georgespeck8761Ай бұрын
Can you use it a solar panel ? if needed.
@StarlinkHardwareАй бұрын
It would be best to plug the solar panel into the battery so the Mini has a stable source. Solar voltages and power can vary.

In an emergency could you have your account paused & then unpause it? If the cell towers & power were out ect ?
@StarlinkHardware3 ай бұрын
Yes, you are able to access the Starlink app and Starlink.com through the dish, even if your subscription is inactive. You would be able to reactivate/unpause service even without cell service.

How do you activate it with no cell service in an emergency with two step authentication??? Seems it will be useless if I can’t turn on roam for it if it’s paused as it’s for emergency situations. You need to receive a text or email to access your account
@StarlinkHardware21 күн бұрын
It’s best to have the Starlink app and be logged in so you don’t have to worry about 2FA. Log in once to the app and you stay logged in.

So in your vehicle breakdown scenario, how would you activate the unit or are you paying monthly for just emergency use? And why couldn’t you use it in a power outage to stream movies (for 3 days like you say)? It is a great video for info though.
