those are expensive mountings. neat, but costly. me, i just plant a 10x10cm log in the ground and drill a hole at the end of it for starlink's neck to be inserted there, along with a gap for the cable to go out of the hole.

Thanks for the videos, very informative. Forgive me if I missed it in the video, but did you run any conduit from the base of the mounting pole to your house? Or did you bury just the wire?

Does that gland connector tighten down on the cable? I haven't found one that is big enough to pass the SL connector and will also compress enough to seal around the cable.

Absolutely dumbfounded that Starlink would remove the Ethernet port. Next they’ll be building SpaceX capsules with no entry doors…… seriously?

It is odd. I would guess they have problems with the Ethernet port and having to replace a $20 part is better then the entire base station for them. I doubt they were trying just to get an extra $20 as all their accessories are not expensive.

quick question on the cable gland.... Since the end needs a 3/4 hole to pass through.. what size cable gland did you buy? and does it allow the 3/4 end and also clamp down on the actual cable? Did you need to modify that gland to effectively have 2 sizes? sorry if this is a dumb question.. looking to mount a demarc box outside of the house.. and am considering a cable gland.. thx for the help

Great video. From what i have read the distance from the dish to router is supposed to be fixed. I ordered the 150' cable as well but am under the impression it is not supposed to be more than 100' (or maybe 75' - idk). I definitely need the 150' to get to a spot on my property where I have clear views. Any thoughts?

You will avoid making bigger holes than needed. The connection to the dish is maybe half an inch compared to 2 inch hole needed to go the other way

If you want to have the internet signal from the Starlink satellite dish connect via ethernet to your existing 3rd-party LAN with one or more WiFi access points, you will need to budget for a router (and remember to change the Starlink to "bridge mode" / "bypass router".) I ended up getting an EdgeRouter X from Ubiquiti to connect the Starlink with my Ubiquiti/UniFi ethernet switch, Cloud Key Gen 2, and a few UniFi AP's. Everything works great!

Hi, thank you for sharing this. How tall is the pipe adapter kit? I ordered one but am waiting for it to arrive and want to prepare to figure out how tall of a pole I will need. I'm thinking of getting a pipe without the coupling part on it and maybe drilling divots in to the pipe I use for the set screws to sink in to a little (not drilling all the way through). I love how much detail you included. One thing I'm wondering, did you ground your pole for lightning strikes or is it already grounded by being sunk into the ground somewhat?

6:50 in this video: Starlink Pipe Adapter Kit Overview, Dimensions, and Details kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3PTh5-DaNqDnNk. About 5.125” tall. The only reason I left the coupler is to not damage the threads in case I want to use them. The set screws will hold it very secure without drilling divots. The only way I see an issue is if the pipe you use is too thin and then the set screws deform the pipe and possibly not hold well. I’d go with the thicker wall pipe for that reason. I did not add any grounding.

Great details and Install.! I used to install Big Hughes DirecWay Satellite Dishes on poles like that and larger 20 Yrs ago with only 2-4 Mbs download speed which was considered Rockin Big Time back then. They had to be computer commissioned pointing at ONE specific satellite, locked into place with huge clamps, because if it ever moved you were gone and totally out of luck until service got there to reposition it again. Very $$ Costly for sure.. And NOW - This Starlink concept is way way better !! Anyway, IS there an orientation requirement on this Dishy antenna ??? I've Yet to find out from these YT vids if the Dishy has to be put on the pipe with any part specifically pointed toward the north or south since it has to move back and forth into the internet spread pattern in the sky.?? Any info you have would be appreciated... ALSO - YOU NEED a 4 Foot Ground Rod sunk into the ground at the base of the pole connected to it with a clamp and #10 Solid Wire. Grind the pipe at the connection and oil all the connections when done.. There's a good amount of Lightning in your area during certain seasons. Oil all the connections on the ground path also to keep em fresh.
@goodfella7483
@goodfella7483 2 жыл бұрын
If you download the Starlink app on your phone you can go outside and use the app with the camera on your phone to visualize the area of the sky it will need open. After you power the dish it orients horizontal and after a few minutes orients the dish to a portion of the sky it deemed most ideal. I haven’t found that mine has moved much if ever once “commissioned”. I’m not sure how exactly it decides where to point in the sky but once there it stays stationary for very long durations(months). As I understand it, the tracking is done virtually with the phased array after that.

I discovered the pole stub of the Starlink dish is precisely the correct size to slip inside the flared end on a 1” schedule 40 PVC conduit. I set up a 4x4 post, routed the buried sch 40 conduit along the post and clamped. I fished in the cable, connected the cable to the dish and dropped the metal pipe from the dish into the conduit. Works perfectly. The dish has survived +40 MPH gusts as measured by a weather station 10 feet away.

@@freddutton404 the dish down pipe that fits into the mount also slips into the 1” conduit. It’s tight and doesn’t slip though I’m sure you could remove it from the conduit. I have opted to go with the pole (StarLink Pole) and mount it in my yard. I am considering running the conduit up the center of the pole. Why did you choose a 2" conduit? Good point about the direction of pulling the cable. I have already considered that but I did not know that the plug at the dish was flexible or waterproof. Also, I ordered the kit but I didn't know what was included. As I said, you answered many questions.

I went with the 2” pipe because it is available at Home Depot and strong. Also, when I installed the pole wasn’t available from SL.

@@goodfella7483 Thank you again for all the work you put into this project. As I mentioned, I am in the process of collecting the materials to complete the job myself. I have a question about the "gland connector at the LB Box" you attached to the top of the conduit. I followed the link to "Wraparound Plastic Submersible Cord Grip for 0.25" to 0.33" Cord OD, for 1-1/4 NPT Knockout" and I assume you were able to pass the Starlink cable and plug through the opening? Did you buy it online from McMaster-Car? Or were you able to find it somewhere else? I went to an electrical supply store today and they didn't have anything quite like this.

From McMaster Carr is the only place I know to get it. Only one side of the cable goes through it…the smaller side.

Thanks for all the details! My pipe adapter came today, still waiting on the ethernet adapter. I would like to do the same but add another length of pipe the next size up and make some kind of boot for the junction. I also would like to keep the wire secure inside the rigid piping. I know that presents install and servicing hassles but it's going in a semi public area. Any ideas?

Can you expand on keeping the wire secure inside the rigid conduit? Not sure I follow.

@@goodfella7483 I thought you mentioned that the cable can be routed down inside the conduit rather than coming out of it briefly and into the gland? I have the stuff now I suppose I and try it. I just want the cable inside to prevent tampering with it. I can deal with the underground issues I have a mini-excavator. My existing ISP is beamed from the south I need to install a new pole a few feet away to clear the evergreens to my northeast anyway. Actually looking forward to a new project!

Ah. I see what you mean. Yes you can route inside the metal pipe all the way up to the dish and it will be hidden. If yours is high enough it won’t matter, but since mine is low I was concerned with someone stealing the dish. There is nothing that prevents someone from disconnecting it.

Great video! Your configuration is exactly what I've got laid out. I ran conduit underground last summer so that I'd be ready even if my dish showed up in the middle of winter (northern Wisconsin). Well, my dish showed up about a week ago but I can't do anything with it yet because the last piece of the puzzle (150' cable) is backordered until the 2nd week of February. I don't have to worry about hurricanes, but I am mounting it about 9' in the air (on a 12' pipe) in order to keep the dish away of the dozens of bucks that visit my yard every day. I am still shocked at the number of users in densely populated areas that are getting Starlink. I would think that Starlink would target rural users first. What kind of speeds are you getting? The reason that I ask is because the email announcing the shipment of my dish said I could expect downloads of 100-150mbps and uploads of 20mbps. That kind of disappointed me. I see all of these videos online with 200+mbps.... that's my expectation, not 100 mbps. Oh well, I'll just have to wait a couple more weeks before I find out. Again, great video!

I’m guessing they are shipping to populated areas (up to some limit) because it’s financially rewarding without a huge network capacity impact / degradation to rural areas. If I were them I’d be utilizing the network capacity everywhere I could to accelerate growth in other areas. In other words, it makes no business sense to not rollout in populated areas if it doesn’t have a negative impact on rural areas. A good friend of mine is much more rural than I am, needs it more than me, and hasn’t got his yet. I do have a video that shows some performance data for my location. I’m planning to do another performance test in heavy rain. This data was with 100% cloud cover. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaDXqGVjqs18iqc

@@goodfella7483 Great video. I installed mine on a SL pole instead of adapter. 75 ft cable buried 6" underground with wide sweep elbow & drip leg before going into pole. Starlink worked ay first on volcano mount. When I installed in conduit, it quit. Despite multiple factory resets, etc, it continued to give "unplugged" message. Router light on & broadcasting but no interrnet. After 2 weeks, finally got message from SL. They wanted pic. As soon as they saw I installed in buried conduit, they voided warranty. Their instructions say cable not rated for burial. I interpreted that as not being direct burial. They are actually recommending cable lay on ground! Apparently they don't understand concpt of lawnmowers. I've gone round and round with SL & now waiting for a new cable to try that I had to buy. Worst service company I've ever encountered. I'm a PE & ran a high tech company for 30 years so I'm no expert but not new to this stuff. Hopefully sending this to you privately so as to not call SL attention to your conduit install. Have you had any issues with regard to burial in conduit? TM

Thanks for the video. Good job. I’m still waiting since Feb 8th 2021 for order confirmation. It’s great to see the details. I live in rural The Blue Mountains in central Ontario Canada and have a vacation property in Haliburton, Ontario; an area we call “Cottage Country” - so I have two pre-orders waiting. Both locations currently are on satellite internet Xplornet (AKA Xplor-crap) and paying through the nose for overage charges. Neither location have available LTE fixed wireless; both locations are surrounded by forest. The cottage order has been rescheduled for January 2022, while the house is April 2022. We don’t have your hurricane issue, but have winter and potentially large snowfalls; so, I’m planning on a J-mount off of my roof gables so that the snow melt will simply fall clear of the roof.
