Im a native Floridian. Went on a couple different Caribbean cruises and went to a few of the Islands like St. Thomas and St. Croix when I was aboard the U.S.S. South Carolina in the Navy, late 1984. Now that we are retired I was just doing a little research on Marine Electronics. Stopped halfway through. My kids are grown, the youngest turned 33 this year 2023. His daughter is eight. When we go out to the Islands I hope we all can go together.

You're right about Starlink service availability being a regulatory issue. For Starlink to offer service in any country, they need an operating license in that country issued by their government. Most of the Caribbean countries have not yet. Also, open water marine (and aircraft) use is waiting on two things: #1 - The FCC needs to review SpaceX's application, submitted March 2021, for mobile service and issue a mobile use license. The current license is for fixed use only. #2 - More satellites with the laser links are needed, both new satellite launches and launches to replace existing older satellites without the laser link. The laser link is the key to providing service when a satellite doesn't have direct access to a ground station as you get farther offshore. And roaming, now called portability, will allow a Starlink user to get service in a cell with a waitlist. However, your service is deprioritized behind the people in that cell that are using Starlink at their registered service address. The same deprioritized service is now offered in the RV package, without the need to have a service address. With the added benefit that the RV service can be paused and resumed, instead of canceled and reordered.

With the RV service your always deprioritized is my understanding. The cool part of Starlink is those amazing speeds.

Nice to know about current state of Starlink for boating! Thx. The eventual real interesting comparison should be Starlink versus Iridium and other older satellite services for ocean crossing and world cruising. Of course that should wait for Starlink being in most countries and covering all oceans. Currently Irridium GO costs 140 USD per month for unlimited data ...at 2.4 Kbit/second. I think broad band satellite connection for boating currently costs tens of thousands per month. Not sure though.

I saw a video that stated that some Superyachts internet costs are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for high speed. Starlink will be a game changer for them.

Hi Guys!! How is everyone!!? Another great video I must say. Quite the adventure and time lapse to go and get some meat! LOL. Should make a lot of people appreciate their close proximity to grocery stores on the mainland. So glad you brought up the starlink. I was wondering how that was going to work out in the marine life and moving throughout international waters/Countries. It was very interesting in what B man brought up in regards to Starlink and Elon Musk. I for one, and hoping that he does not get full neck deep into the Political world. It seems that Politics these days are sure to corrupt just about everyone who gets involved. Our Country, along with alot of countries throughout the world are just a huge mess and corruption is at the base of all of the messes. I have been, for many years now taken my due diligence and have done my own research on current events and events of the past and it is fascinating and also very angering at what is truly hidden from the citizens and how the media is getting worse and worse as literally, days go by. Anywho, I cannot even imagine the amount of decisions you have to be entertaining with your logistics in getting setup for going home to Cali to have your Newest member of the family. From the sounds of it, you have both looked at all of the options and have settled on the best solution. It looks like upon your return to the Mermaid Monster that you can get some west coast adventuring on next!! That will be awesome. While in the US Army, being a watercraft operator, I spent alot of time in the Panama area along with Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and found those areas absolutely gorgeous and also very fascinating!! So glad to have been able to catch your latest video. Family looks happy and healthy!! Good on ya Mates!! And Dan on the rescue to the tender!! It looks like the only internet options for blue water travelers is still Iridium, KVH or something similar. Even coastal cruising around the USA you're going to run into "dead zones" going by the map on Starlink's page.

Hey, did you see MV FREEDOM's Starlink episode? They modified their Starlink so that it lies flat on the roof. They love it. You should check it out as they have pretty much the same Nordhavn as you have. They don't use it while moving for legal reasons and they go more in depth on their second install episode.

I guess I wonder how you didn't know this going into Starlink, as the service currently doesn't support sat-to-sat hopping yet, thus you're going to be limited to ranges of dish-to-sat-to-groundstation... at least until the ver 1.5 and 2.0 sats go live with sat-to-sat service. Then you can be literally anywhere... in the middle of the ocean, etc... and have coverage.

He’s not a politician No but I do think that Starlink definitely carries more political risk than a few months ago. I do wonder if this will slow the regulatory process for the pending service areas. But your right the satellites continue to be launched at an amazing rate and I even see that Starlink has satellites over areas they are not currently providing service in just yet and that’s a good sign.

But because he's become the political figure, which we don't agree with him, he's lost our support. If you did, what was your location at the time? I don't remember in any of their pre-release information Starlink would work anywhere on the water? I have no objections To Elon speaking his mind. I love it actually. He’s very funny most of the time . We made a last min decision to go travel In an area that has no coverage any place close and I found that setting up a hotspot on my iPhone worked better and worked much more often and was less expensive.
