For us regular people it makes no difference really who is in control. Letting Authorities control internet connectivity can lead down a dangerous path. Trust me, I live in a country where the internet was shut down due to citizens protesting the government. For all the people in the comments saying there should be governing bodies, they too can be corrupted and turn authoritarian. I don’t worship Musk as some people do but there is value in decentralized internet. I don’t trust anyone essentially.

Every country has a legal authority responsible for all radio signals within its legal territory. Satellite or not, the minute a signal is transmitted down within territory there is a breach and fines need to be paid. Roaming or not.. Starlink in far in breach already.. just scan the internet. Along with this, as is the case for all infrastructure & security aspects, governments globally and in particular in the US scrutinize who the investors are and derive fees for services delivered in country using radio freq spectrum resource.. all telecoms land based, satellite and broadcast incur this along with ownership requirements be it for part gov owned or national ownership %

What I find fascinating is that Starlink is generally in breach and makes zero attempt to remedy the situation. Also just because you have a service overhead(above the national airspace) does not give the right to offer services. I’m pretty sure using the civilian(claimed) service in Ukraine for war has garnered a lot of interest from a propaganda to overthrow gov pov which the US and EU are increasingly guilty of. So when Russia is offering ways to negate it via RF blocking trust me it’s justified.. and will likely be the norm. Russia, China making their own too btw..
