We've mounted our starlink mini under the canopy in our ute. Still picks up signal through the fibreglass. Also run a 12v to 24v dc convertor off the canopy battery, probably get away with just running it off 12volts though. it stays on all the time, even when driving and we still have full signal when in our caravan. I can remove it and connect it to an anderson plug on our van if need be.

G’day Buck, love your work mate. Couple of other tips Ive picked up from KZbin for my mini. Not sure if it works for you but we can set ours up through the vent in the roof above the bed if we want to mount on the roof. Kings also make a canvas bag thats made to fit a portable (single) induction cooktop and the mini is a perfect fit! I put the cords in a seperate Kings bag like you do but now I’ll wrap them on some old hand line reels. And yes, agree with your views on Trumps new bestie.

Great video Buck. Especially since I'm looking at taking advantage of the current discount on the mini. Here's a tip, next time you have a few hundred bucks burning a hole in your pocket, give gopro a fair boot up the backside and get a DJI Action cam. Way better than gopro. None of the issues!! I'd be interested to learn about the power usage for the mini between 240v vs 12v. Cheers!
@Mrbuckaroonie..13 күн бұрын
Yeah mate I have had a shit run from Gopro over the years. They are garbage. Good when they are working which is hardly ever. DJI for sure next time.
@gman486913 күн бұрын
Overheating is such a common issue with them. I don't know how they are still so popular! I just had a thought too. Bear with me. Cut 6 inches off that pole. Go back to the scrap yard and buy a length of pipe with a slightly smaller diameter. Run a hack saw through an inch of your existing pipe and the 6 inch piece. Go to bunnings and buy two wingnut pipe clamps and there's your new extendable dishy pole!

Hey Buck, FYI on coiled leads. Q: Is it okay to use an extension lead when it’s coiled up? A: No, it is not okay to use an electrical extension lead when it's coiled up; always fully unwind it before use as a coiled cord can trap heat and potentially cause overheating, creating a fire hazard.
@Mrbuckaroonie..13 күн бұрын
Although power extension leads need to be fully uncoiled to use (so they don't heat up), network cables can remain coiled if the full length is not needed. When used in conjunction with accessories suggested below, you can have the most user friendly and reliable starlink cable available in today's market. Straight off Google mate. I had good comms with it on the reel.
@Mrbuckaroonie..13 күн бұрын
No, it is generally not dangerous to keep a Starlink cable on a reel as long as it is properly coiled and not excessively tight, as the cable is designed to handle being bent and doesn't generate significant heat like power cables that might be damaged by being tightly wound on a reel.

@Mrbuckaroonie..13 күн бұрын
I am still to fix that plug but I have tested the mini and it never pulls anywhere near 100w. That is maximum. I think when running it was about 20w. That 140w is a maximum rating. Starlink mini goes nowhere near that. I will glue that end cap on and test it.

Buck, danger Will Roberson. The 12V cable is fine. However, don't leave the 240v cable spooled on the reel. The cable for a coil generator and the cable will begin to heat. It will get hot enough to melt and short out is enough load is drawn. Half un-spoolled may be ok but i think the entire cable may be a risk. Only the 240 is a risk. The 12v should be fine. In the trade we were taught to unspool most the cable for the reason I mentioned.
