I would like to thank you. I’ve been watching your channel for a very long time and I just purchased my first Starlink and I just set it up yesterday. I got the mini as a Christmas gift for myself. It was the best decision I ever made after watching you and joining all the Facebook groups. Starlink is the best Internet out there.

I appreciate your support! You'll love the Mini, it's been my favorite dish to make videos on so far. It's insane how they managed to pack so much capability into something the size and weight of a laptop.

Good informative videos, thanks. I ordered the roof mount and DC pwr supply. They arrived in less than a week (just came in today). The cable doesn't have bare wires. The connectors on each end are both XT60-Female. I cut the wire and made two adapter cables out of it. One with Anderson plugs and the other with a cigerette lighter plug.

Nice, glad they are shipping these out quickly now. Regarding the DC power supply, I just did a review and found it won't work with many portable power stations. Might work from a 12V car outlet, just depends on how many amps the car can provide. See my review here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5mzf2OGgK15hLc

We've come a long way! It wasn't too long ago when you had to splice into the proprietary Starlink cable to hook up to 12V. Now it's just another Starlink accessory you can easily buy and hook up.

I ordered the Starlink Mini USB-C to USB-C cable to use with the USB-C port in my car and motorhome, why would I need the cigarette port adapter? Both circuits have fuse protection.
@StarlinkHardwareАй бұрын
Most USB-C ports in vehicles won’t provide enough power. The Mini’s USB-C requirement is 20V/5A (100 watts). The 12V outlet, however, is usually on a 10A fuse for 120 watts. Double check the output of your USB-C ports, you won’t need this adapter if they meet the power requirement.

I am confused now. I thought that the Starlink STD dish couldn't work without the Starlink router because it is not a standard POE. So if we want to use our own router we should use it in bypass mode.
@StarlinkHardwareАй бұрын
This new accessory doesn't delete the Starlink router, it's just an adapter brick that allows you to power the Starlink router (and dish) from a 12-48V DC source. If you want to use your own router with this you would still need the Starlink router in bypass mode. Or a less bulky option would be a 3rd party product like the DishyNOAC which allows you to eliminate the Starlink router completely.
@WirelessDevelopmentАй бұрын
@@StarlinkHardware Thanks a lot for your quick reply. Do you know if I can use my own POE and a 56V DC power supply. I am trying to understand if the Starlink STD has anything proprietary and the DishyNOAC has it figured out or if I can put together my own POE and there is not proprietary protocol or handshake. Yes, my goal is to eliminate the Starlink router entirely and use a router that supports OpenWrt.
@StarlinkHardwareАй бұрын
@@WirelessDevelopment With Gen 3 there is nothing special about the POE other than it’s capable of around 150 watts. If you can supply 56V and around 150 watts through your POE connection it should work.
@WirelessDevelopmentАй бұрын
@StarlinkHardware awesome I will come up with something and ask you to test and your feedback. I am working on a solution that can do network bonding with two dishes or one dish and 5G. In the areas you don't want to use Starlink or 5G is available my router will take care of the switch.

How much power is this going to take out of a car battery? Surely upgrading the output to 56v would need a lot of power?
@StarlinkHardwareАй бұрын
The Mini uses about 20-30 watts. Converting to 56V uses some extra energy but it's not significant. The load is really just the Mini which runs in that 20-30 watt range.

Per SL Customer Support inquiry concerning the DC-DC pwr supply, “It does not come with connection terminals. The end of the cable has two colors which is red and black.”
@StarlinkHardware2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info! So you'll be able to add your own terminals, or just buy some kind of adapter cable with the XT60 connector to plug into the DC-DC power supply brick.
@markmotsko2400Ай бұрын
Very happy to see SL come out with a DC power brick but disappointed to see no connection terminal.
@FLYNXCАй бұрын
Well as expected SL’s support generalized their vague answer to my question asking, what the power connection end adapter consists of, by saying “The end of the cable has two colors which is red and black”. No colors based on their vague answer. Both ends are the XT60 female connection. Which yes have a pos/neg-red/black, but yeh, no colors, dar-t-dar. Saying XT60 with pos/neg-red/black must be too complicated.

If I plug a mini into my goal zero via the 12v plug vs the standard plug does it use less power? I’m trying to justify the purchase.

It uses a bit less power because the inverter doesn’t have to be running. I’ve measured around 10-15% less usage on direct DC compared to an inverter.
