Looks like Starlink has finally fixed this loophole. The subscription I set up for this video has been converted from Standard - Discounted to just the regular Standard plan. The long running discounted plan I have on another account was converted as well. It was an interesting topic to explore, and I like to think this video and you guys helped bring this issue to Starlink's attention so that it could be fixed.

They activated the GPS in the dish. I tried changing mine and after an hour I got a message saying my location didn't match what I entered and they changed me back to $120. To get the rate down we need to pick a day and everyone call in to cancel and day it's too expensive. If they have a few 1000 drop service they will wake up. It's not fair those of us in the US pay more than anyone else.

Here in western North Dakota it’s 90 a month. My high speed local service is 96 a month and they have excellent customer service! Buying 500 in equipment makes no sense to me. The only benefit would be if I could take this camping but they charge 150 a month now to roam.

It's not right for Nebraska to pay only $90 when here in AZ it's not densely populated but we still have to pay $120!
@StarlinkHardware7 ай бұрын
From what I can tell it's not all of the state, just certain areas. It's unclear what kind of system they are using to determine what is and isn't discounted. If I had to speculate, I would guess it's based on old data on network capacity in each service cell. So it's completely possible that a service cell in AZ was in more demand than one in NE, even though both may be sparsely populated. I don't think they've updated this incentive in a long time, especially since the waitlist and capacity restrictions are no longer a thing.
@jasonbailey91394 ай бұрын
Well, I don't qualify for the discount even though I'm in a fairly rural area. But even at $120/month I will be saving over $100 per month by switching over from my current cable plan that was unlimited data.
@7511fsm7 ай бұрын
@StarlinkHardware FYI, I can no longer locate a $90 location. I spent 20 minutes looking for one. Maybe you can look for yourself and make an update video. I suspect they may have finally caught on and instead of looking for people who have the $90 plan that shouldn't have it, they decided to make everything $120 across the board.
@7511fsm7 ай бұрын
I suspect their account management system is heavily automated so anyone who is on the $90 plan will keep it until SL forces them to change it for some reason. No more $90 plans for anybody else from here on out that didn't have it already. $90 should be what everybody on the basic plan should pay.

I’m down in Yuma AZ, and it’s one of those communities which “balloons” in size in the winter when the snowbirds return to warmer climates, but I get screwed by Starlink since I’m technically in the city of Yuma. (I’m on the edge of the city limits) but friends just to the east of me (were talking 2 - 3 miles only) get the $90 rate but supposedly I’m $120… Compounding matters: even if this loophole still worked I’d be doubly-screwed if I tried it because I’m grandfathered into the Starlink “Portability $25” add on feature (now no longer available), so not sure what’s going to happen if I try to change my service address or cancel my plan. I’m guessing that if I cancel my plan I’ll forever lose my Portability option. I’m paying $145 a month. I’m a full time RVer who parks in Yuma in the winter. If I switch to the RV (now called Roam) version it’s $150 a month - BUT I get to suspend service if I need to. Five bucks difference - but supposedly I’m guaranteed priority service over a Roam account since I’m Residential. Not sure what I can do other than just pay Elon.
@StarlinkHardware11 күн бұрын
If you don't move often you might consider just switching to the normal $120/month Residential plan. It's easy enough to travel with it by just updating your service address when you move, assuming you aren't on the road all the time and tend to stay put in one location for a week or more at a time. What is your average monthly data usage? The new Roam 50GB plan starts at $50/month. You can buy additional data at $1/GB. If you typically use less than 145GB each month, switching to the Roam 50GB plan would be cheaper than your current plan if you would rather stick with a Roam plan.

I don’t know about the ‘standard discounted’ being only in rural areas.. I’m in the second largest city in New England and my rate is $90… I think it’s more about competition… no one is going to pay $120 for Starlink when faster more reliable wired broadband is available for $85.. because of this, wired areas are also less utilized with Starlink customers.. again it’s a competition thing
@StarlinkHardware7 ай бұрын
You're probably right, I think it's generally correlated to rural vs populated areas, but more than likely it's competition and demand like you said. They probably based it on their own network capacity and the demand in each Starlink service cell. So in New England, which has a lot more broadband options, there wouldn't be a lot of demand for Starlink compared to the middle of nowhere in Nebraska, which doesn't have the same infrastructure.

Great. I wonder how long it takes for Starlink to close this loophole. Second setback is the spare part service. It will ship to the address where you are not, and you can only change the shipment address as long as the parts are not shipped yet.
@StarlinkHardware8 ай бұрын
If you already have an account, shipping will stay the same (at the real location). If you are ordering brand new, you can specify a different shipping address from the service address. The only time any address is not the real one is for the brief moment you activate, right before charging it to the real location.
