Probably one of my favourite missions in the game, just because of the sheer ridiculousness of the scenario.

I don't think it's ridiculous. In my mind, it will age as well as the loss of the Twin Towers in Deus Ex.

This was a crazy mission, but very well executed. It's still funny to me this scenario, with the US on the run and being beaten by Russia. Russia can't even do logistics 100 miles outside of it's own country, let alone all the way to the Eastern US where some of the most fortified places on earth are. Still, excellent gameplay as always :D

If you think it's wild now just wait for the sequel when I get around to it. It's definitely b-movie tier writing, but fun to sit back and watch play out.

Either way, Makarov and his cronies are overambitious madmen who can think they'll win the war without it going Pyrrhically. Oh, if only this trilogy would have been the perfect bridge to the unstable world shown in Black Ops II. Unfortunately for them, it seems some other interest group manipulated their own hatred and anger quite well so for said interest group to become the super convenient heroes of the conflict. Think good old Ozymandias from Watchmen.

1:46: Cue the environment wham shot. Beautiful, isn't it, and it's a shame Moscow won't get the same treatment in MW3 2011. Paris and Berlin deserved better, for sure. Interesting how there's a lunar eclipse here. There's a treasure trove of Russo-American War radio chatter for this level and others in the wiki. Feel free to look them up if curious. 5:28: Mi-28 Havocs. Enemy gunships, so watch out. 6:51: Another "Broken Arrow". Poor fellers. From the wiki: "If the player waits around for a while in the Crow's Nest, the radio operator at the Washington Monument evac site may say that the site's combat effectiveness is dropping. While combat effectiveness cannot go lower than 80% in the release version, cut dialogue indicates that it was originally possible for the site to lose more and more combat effectiveness, with a drop to 30% or below resulting in an audible change in radio operators (the original operator presumably being killed by Russian fire), a report that desperate civilians are taking up arms, and eventually culminating in a complete loss of combat effectiveness with the site being overrun by Russian forces and the civilians being lost. In the Remastered version, combat effectiveness can be reduced to 50% if playing on Hardened or Veteran difficulties, but again cannot be entirely removed." 9:06: They're in the west! 12:12: It launched from the State Department though. 13:03: Didn't Red vs. Blue Season 8 do a similar scene at least a year later after this game? And then, up in orbit... *BOOM!!!!!!* (Thus ends Act II. Next, for Act III shenanigans by TF141, a docked submarine, an uncharacteristically tired Gen. Shepherd, a necessary if costly missile and a seemingly unhinged Price.)

Emergency Alert System Scenario. The opening for this mission features a fictionalized version of the Emergency Alert System. EAS Scenarios are KZbin videos that effectively tell stories using mockups of the EAS as a medium, with more recent videos in that genre incorporating faux news broadcasts.

the brutal irony of russians attackikng you from a world war II memorial isn't lost on me...older I Get, the more these games just make me sad. your shooting is great, actino is solid..its a well made product please don't misunderstand just... war is an awful thing :(
