There are huge numbers of South Asians and Africans in those parts of the world and their numbers are rapidly increasing in traditionally Caucasian countries wheras the latter seem feeble and with poor reproduction rates and as a white Britisher, this is unsettling even though I generally judge people by their character rather than by their race, this still does not feel right (despite what Europe has done to exploit other countries. ) Throw other religions into the mix and economic stress and you have a recipe for societal breakdown.

When listening to protesters, safety, esp for families was a big issue and it is only in recent history the report and conviction of grooming gangs corruption of our institutions, largely due to fear of being politically incorrect. Ideology has consequences. Plus there have been other issues. As well as both main parties belonging to the elite, global political class. Labor no longer doesn't represent the working class anymore. To reduce this whole issue to racist white thugs is not only wrong, bit stoking and reinforcing division My point there is more than just racism. You can't help address a problem, esp when ppl are scared if you don't listen or value ppls concerns. Ash has basically dismissed and slandered many. Excellent analysis as always - Ash, you are spot on. Zarah Sultana put up a really strong argument, but my goodness the behaviour of the three white, middle aged patronising men was bloody appalling. What an irritating pratt is Ed Balls, continuously interrupting her and the other two eejits laughing at her. I hope Starmer uses his authoritarianism to hammer down on the far right perpetrators and their ring leaders including heavily attacking Farage on inciting race hate. He would be better placed using his heavy handed tactics against these far right extremists rather than left progressives in his own party.

Michael, to suggest that more immigration may cause more strain on public services ignores the fact that a lot of immigration helps to strengthen public services, particularly when the UK birth rate is so low we won't have people to perform the services needed for older generations. Hence why the Tories increased immigration, whilst trying to scapegoat them as an easy but contradictory 'get-out' scapegoat.

You shouldn't feel ashamed. These aren't the British people that make Britain a good place. The real British people that are out in their communities, clearing up the mess the hate goblins leave behind, are the folk that make this place actually great, and the reason you should be proud. People of every age, faith and background, all out helping each other, rebuilding their communities. The hate goblins and those behind the violence want to create division in the communities. Instead, it's leaving stronger and tighter communities in its wake. Stronger communities are a hard recruiting ground for those driven by hate. These events are horrendous beyond belief, but they aren't a reflection of most of us, just the noisy and violent few.

I'm white, feeling the full firce of my white priviledge, in so far as I am not in fear of being attacked. I am the child of a white Irish immigrant, so they won't come after me. That Labour MP was stupid and I hope she understands how irresponsible she was, and what careless self interested political speech can do. Talk about immigration levels has always been a red herring. Governments have fuelled the debate, by setting goals that cannot be fulfilled, in the name of political expediency, usually spouted before an upcoming election. There needs to be more talk about how immigrants contribute to the work force etc. Ash speaks an awful lot of sense, and yes Michael was a bit of a prick at points. Revealing his own shakey handle on the issue. Perhaps he should use the phrase 'devil's advocate' a bit more, to distance himself from the opinion he's putting forth. I did feel Ash was personally hurt that he could fall foul of suggesting that perhaps there are too many immigrants, which lends some kind of legitimacy to the islamophobic thugs on the streets.

From saying he would give Yemen the proper attention it deserves weeks ago after it got bombed by Isra3l after clumsly mentioning it at the end of the show saying there is no time but the next day he would cover it - but then never actually following through to cover the story which is really gross and insensitive considering the context to how here at the end he is sharing unreasonable points about migration that come across as needless and dehumanising - I'm glad Ash articulated those points clearly to demonstrate the actual reality.

Michael Walker is getting ridiculous that end exchange was absolutely poor. No one is saying if you say lowering immigration is illegitimate, for one why are you saying immigration is negative and not being pragmatic and saying we are lacking infrastructure. Ash point was clear that a lot of factors hit immigration not just numbers of migrants, but immigration hysteria is a psychological thing more then an economic thing. Can someone give him argument refinement because his takes are getting so thin. Ash Sarkar is talking about rhetoric, policy and optics and his take just didn’t even register that and just going on about what numbers make you racist . It isn’t just about numbers and never has been. The left are saying if your take with immigration is formed in racism you are a problem but Michael just didn’t register that whatsoever.

As a Muslim, we always say allahu akbar when it comes to any obstacle we face. As a Muslim it makes complete sense why they said it. Heck I say it when I go up the stairs or I get up from my seat. It’s to remind us that struggles we go through are not, god is greater than that. There’s multiple ways to analyse that but we need to destigmatise the phrase. It should only be seen negatively if someone is saying it before trying to attack innocent people.

Shes basically saying "Well a dont ask, dont tell attitude to immigration is fine". She talks about the economic arguement being more acceptable, but then basically says "Oh yeah but yunno we dont want to turn the dial down though". So its clear shes uncomfortable with the idea of the media or anyone else talking about lowering immigration. She says "Im not interested in individuals, only politicians" Its like well "okay so how do politicians express it in a way thats acceptable to you". And shes like "oh well i dont mind if they want to express it, i just think that its based in racism" Michael just wants to know HOW a politician could express a lower immigration view in a more acceptable and racist way And ash and others seem incapable of doing so

@@ThepPixel There was a slight nod to the fact that an immigration discussion would not be racist if it was based on purely numbers, not nationality or race, but this seemed almost like an afterthought. The way Michael brought this up was strange, and it seemed that both were talking past each other to a certain extent so as to not make the other uncomfortable, but Ash's response really didn't do the question justice and would be better suited for a career politician.

@@ThepPixel in context of literal race riots, that I think quite clearly have been stoked for years by a constant racist media, why is this even being brought up by a supposed left wing commentator. The current concern should be opposing the far right, not feeding into their talking points. Attempting to see both sides right now is quite ridiculous. I think it seems like he is purposely misunderstanding arguments. Many of the labour right have completely fed into racist fears over immigration and have failed to put forward a positive argument regarding immigration all to play to the far right. This isn't to say that not believing in open borders is racist, but it's the way time and time again immigration is centred as the cause of our ills and then without it we would be better off - this is clearly untrue and patently racist and Michael is both disappointing in terms of his analysis but more importantly his failure to have empathy.

Hi guys, love you! I'd counter the last argument right at the end about numbers of migrants, as follows: whilst I know realistically unchecked open borders is likely unrealistic, reducing migrants to mere numbers is dehumanizing and sort of the first step in a journey that eventually leads to racism at some point if such talk is left unchecked. Hence the incredibly low standard of political speech about migrants in the UK overall. Just a nameless faceless statistic is easy to other and subject to further dehumanizing processes such as being kept in the perpetual liminal space of a hotel mirrored by the perpetual liminal state of remaining unprocessed by immigration. The entire system is set up to keep them faceless and nameless, which should be deemed an illegal form of cruel and unusual punishment. The unfortunate thing is that in the UK and many other countries, arguments for inward migration are framed in terms of numbers and how those numbers of migrants can be "useful" in economic terms. As such, discussions already start off somewhere along the unfortunate road to perdition this way.

The irony is that people identify as English simply because they live on territory owned by the ruling class (the old Monarchy). Without this ruling class, "England" as a concept would not exist. When people are raised to believe in the nation, which is only a social construct used to govern them, they internalize it as their identity. The system meant to rule over them becomes their sense of self. Democracy and nationalism are closely related as well, as no democratic system functions without nationalism. Nationalism is a perfect tool to cover up any inherent class differences (property owners vs. labour). Because of this connection, fascism is always a potential threat, since it represents the ultimate implementation of idelistic nation state, where all class differences are put under the greater good of the nation. The greater good of the nation is also popular among democratic leaders. So , democracy and fascism share fundamental ideological elements, making it relatively easy transition from one to the other. The is also very clear in the migrant discussion, when the line of arguments between the democratic nation-state ideology and a fascist nation-state ideology becomes hard to distinguish. To effectively combat fascism, you need to deconstruct and dismantle the ideology of the nation-state first.

Starmer will have to get Police out of their offices because there are not enough in the country to deal with these racists. British media calling them "anti-immigration protesters " is a disgrace, get the Army in.

I’m from the US and it seemed like there were not a lot of police there or sometimes not at all. I thought maybe that’s how they police there.

Everyone seems to be talking about symptoms. Extreme inequality is the main issue imo. Start by reversing privatisation and tax companies and the rich to fund commodities for all so services are restored. We need an economy (circular?) that is more stable and not just focused on perpetual growth. The rest will follow. Want an extreme measure? Stop paying CEO’s and the like exorbitant wages and bonuses. Do billionaires need to exist?

No they don't & your analysis is excellent. Reduce the inequality & it will swiftly reduce the numbers involved to just the hard core racists.

The problem is people seeing the culture and identity of their country rapidly changing against their will. Simple as that, you can reduce inequality all you like but if an entire identity of people is being erased racial tension will persist

@F.O.O Ahhhhh, so you're a proponent of "great replacement theory". Also known as a racist. Adding cultural & ethnic groups does not erase any preexisting cultural or ethnic group.

The Police definitely have an agenda. Giving permission to he gathering of far right should never have happened in the first place. It occurred on the same day that there was a Bristol Rovers vs Bristol City - an event that always involves violence. So you have a large number of worked up people just down the road from the gathering of far right thugs. Also just down the road is a facility housing immigrants. The anti fascist (counter demonstrators) knew that this would be a target and so had created a cordon around the sight to protect those inside. What I'd like to ask is where we're the police at this site. If the anti fascist lot could work it out why weren't the police there BEFORE the thugs turned up?!!!!. It was only after the fascist thugs arrived that there was any kind of police presence 😔

Ed Balls interviewing his own wife perfectly sums up how ludicrous the British media is. Balls is just there because he punches left, journalistic ability is zero
