The tax threshold is currently 12750 quid. If you only got state pension recently then you will be getting 11,440. The difference is 25 quid a week before tax so you are not on the bottom line. I have also worked all my life and have a works pension plus the old state pension and I am only getting just a little more than yourself. How fair is that?

I agree. Starmer is not sorry at all. It seems to me that Starmer, Reeves and gang don't care one inch about pensioners and they want to reduce money spent on older people and free up their homes, so that more taxpayers money and housing can continue to be lavished on accommodating, feeding, keeping warm and medically treating etc all the young men who continue to arrive daily, unasked for and unwanted on our shores. It is clear to me, and I think most of us, that rather than helping pensioners, Starmer's priorities lie elsewhere.... for example, spending billions of pounds on the idiotic net zero (which will leave us all much colder and much poorer), giving away a massive amount (I think it is 12 billion pounds!) to other countries to teach and instruct them about net zero and generally misspending many billions of tax payers' money on the Ukraine War, much of it laundered into the pockets to the wealthy elites and those in power.

The minute there's an outbreak of flu, hospitals will be admitting thousands of Old Age Pensioners, sadly gasping their last breaths. It's very worrying that the very first thought of this Labour Government, when it was trying to save these "billions" of pounds, was "let's remove the Universal Winter Fuel allowance for Pensioners". I dread to think what is next in line to pummel Pensioners into an early grave. There are millions of retired Pensioners from Central and Local Government Departments, and NHS staff etc etc .... on good pensions. Starmer has not realised yet he doesn't need to 'blame the Tories' any more now he is in government. Somehow he thinks people will think he is clever continuing to blame them and taking revenge on pensioners, instead he makes himself look foolish and small minded. The whole country would prefer a U turn rather than a stubborn man who doesn't listen to good advice from his own people, unions, charities and common sense ordinary people. A simple solution is to pay it to everyone eligible previously but make an adjustment for higher rate tax paying pensioners to pay through the tax system which can be done easily and produce the same end result. If Starmer lets this go ahead, it is a sign that he will be as rigid on other crucial decisions whether he is right or wrong which will be a disaster for this country.

It is not just the WFP, it is the absence of honesty in the Labour manifesto that promised a fully costed plan to freeze energy prices, then they simply act to ensured pensioners freeze this winter! It is the lack of honesty, in their manifesto promise, echoed in his speech, to work in the interest of the working people, then act in self-interest, lining their own pockets with non-taxable “gifts”? It is also about Reeves, putting in a claim for energy costs of £820 for March and April, asking the taxpayers to pay for it, then dishonestly picking the pockets of the vulnerable elderly who have paid tax and Ni all their lives, stating there was no money for WFP? He says he understands that politics “can make or break a life” then pledges to go after the long-term sick taking their benefits to fund public services, I suppose the elderly and the long-term sick will have an increased need for them when he has finished attacking them. He rails against “politically easy answers” but penalises the vulnerable instead of focusing on the “broad shoulders” he previously talked about. His Chancellor Reeves offers a bowl of porridge to young children, (Breakfast Clubs) rather than making the political hard decision to scrap Universal Credit two child barrier, the real reason for child poverty. He made a good speech, his ability to do this is why I voted Labour, but actions speak louder than words and his actions have already done too much damage - he has eroded confidence and trust, his speech was not enough to mend this. I will not be fooled again.
