We owned and ran a care business with the same number of staff and sold out because we would not compromise on service. (Kaleidoscope Care Ltd in Herefordshire). The social care sector will be hit very hard by this budget. The majority of our staff were on 16 hours and below so they could avoid personal taxation now most will incur tax because employers look on the total cost of employing people... not on their take home. Many companies could collapse. Cutting admin and care managers could cause higher mortality... bluntly bad and dangerous care. Virtually no one in the cabinet has experience outside of the public sector or in business. Their ignorance will kill people unless they listen and learn at high speed. We were sad to sell our company to a large outfit... but we would not compromise and, in effect, have blood on our hands. This is very very serious. Hats off to this man. It seems Labour forgot the S.E.T. disaster in the 1960s where the Wilson government slapped punitive taxation on employers of servants, cleaners etc for ideological reasons. Mass dismissals started. They backtracked quickly. It was a brutal lesson. And here we go again with a tax on employment. Taxation is not a magic money tree. Ideological justification will not make simple economic reality go away The sheer ignorance and hopeless impracticality of people blinded by self righteous ideological certainty is appalling.. S.E.T. = Selective Employment Tax.
