STAR TREK: The Next Generation 1987 Cast Then and Now 2022 How They Changed
Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) is an American science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry. It originally aired from September 28, 1987 to May 23, 1994 in syndication, spanning 178 episodes over seven seasons. The third series in the Star Trek franchise, it is the second sequel to Star Trek: The Original Series. Set in the 24th century, when Earth is part of the United Federation of Planets, it follows the adventures of a Starfleet starship, the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), in its exploration of the Milky Way galaxy.
In the 1980s, Roddenberry-who was responsible for the original Star Trek, Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973-1974), and the first of a series of films-was tasked by Paramount Pictures with creating a new series in the franchise. He decided to set it a century after the events of his original series. The Next Generation featured a new crew: Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Jonathan Frakes as William Riker, Brent Spiner as Data, Michael Dorn as Worf, LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge, Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi, Denise Crosby as Tasha Yar, Wil Wheaton as Wesley Crusher, Gates McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher, and a new Enterprise.

I’m halfway through watching The Next Generation for the, erm, nth time, and if it wasn’t for the screen ratio you’d swear it was made only recently. A series made way before it’s time. It’s great to see that most of the actors are still with us. Thank you for this lovely tribute and more importantly thank you to all the actors who made it such an incredible show.

For me at the very least it was really great that (from memory) right from the get go the sets never featured any picture tube tv's.

You're right, but I think they've remastered it. Especially in Season 1 scenes where the resolution has been boosted you can see some of the sets just about pass muster. Doesn't stop it being, in my opinion, the best Trek.

You shouldn't be thanking the hacks who make these videos -- strictly for views (money). They have no idea what Star Trek is or who the actors were -- as evidenced by the ridiculous mistakes they always make, like with Dorn/O'Reilly here.

Your Gowron guy in 89 was a pic of Michael Dorn! Also met Armin Shimerman at a Galaxycon in Richmond 2 years ago, he also played Quark on DS9, and while all the folks were cool to talk to, he was the best! Took pics with him and he went out of his way to be friendly. Again all the Star Trek folks were great, he was just a little better than even them.

STAR TREK the next generation, was such an iconic TV series! I must have seen every episode at least several dozen times. To see of how the members of this crew have aged is absolutely fascinating. Some of them even though they were playing Romulans or Klingons, their facial features are so distinct that you could pick them out of a crowd after so many years. Others I could sit right next to them in a waiting room and I wouldn't recognize them if you would tell me who they are. I guess we all age so very differently.

Same here. Star Trek just wasn’t on my horizon, none of the series, none of the movies. I vaguely knew there was Spock, and Kirk, and the phrase “beam me up”. Then I had an illness and started watching TNG almost by accident on daytime TV. Totally hooked for reasons I can’t explain. More than the plots, I love reading about the battles won and lost by the screenwriters. That’s a whole new dimension to the show.

ST TNG was a huge influence on me as a 90s kid, not only for its entertainment but how it shaped my view on science and view of the world. TNG was certainly optimistic in presenting an ideal future for humankind, something that I hope will carry on for new viewers to come.

Holy smokes - was it really that long ago?! I never got into any of the later series, but TNG was very good. Compelling stories, well written. Patrick Stewart was head and shoulders above most of the rest of the cast in terms of acting ability, but they all were petty competent. I think they were a heck of a lot better than ham-handed Shatner.

I met most of the TNG cast at various Cons (late 80's - early 90's). Had lots of fun with them. This was nicely done, but WHY did you have a picture of Michael Dorn as Robert O'Reilly's Gowron ? That stood out as a huge error. O'Reilly showed up unexpectedly at a Con where Jonathan Frakes was headlining .. came out of the audience & up on the stage & the 2 of them were hilarious together. Of all the casts (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT), TNG was the closest knit, playing off one another so well .. which transferred into their performances & made the show extremely popular. I remember after the cliff hanger of BoBW ... EVERYBODY was talking about what was going to happen .. people I never suspected were ST fans. Great memories. We're ALLolder now but the memories are still great.

@@jonathanbair523 Yeah, the TNG cast cut up quite a bit ... which probably explains why it was a good day to get 7-8 minutes of usable film on any given day. There are lots of 'blooper' reels, but their escapes go way beyond that. John DeLancy (Q) told a story where he had to appear on the set NUDE (after the Continuum stripped him of his powers .. and clothes). Funny stuff. Spiner & Frakes were the usual leaders of pranks, which upset P. Stewart initially .. but after he was certain that this show was going to go on for many seasons, he joined in.
