It’s obvious that Vince just wanted to bury cm punk which is why he lost in singles matches in his buildup to his match with taker at WM29. In fact Vince does this to anyone who disobeys, defies or disrespects him, he hurts you. He even did this to punk during his 400 day plus WWE title reign. He made punk lose a single non title match whilst he was champ. 🤦🏿‍♂️ You see that’s just embarrassing, furthermore punk got fired on his wedding day ouch. Imagine that. What’s more concerning is that punk developed a staff infection that was misdiagnosed several times by WWE’s medical doctors. However it turned out to be true that it indeed was a staff infection, that’s messed up. So basically Vince paid off the doctors 🥼 to keep punk down, make him suffer even more his sad.

You have to agree with Punk here. In kayfabe, why would four competitors want to compete just to fight a guy with a winning streak? Imagine if it was boxing: if you gave a boxer the chance to fight either the champion or some guy who has never lost in Kentucky, in Kentucky, he'd choose the champion. Now obviously outside of kayfabe it's a huge honour to face Taker, but they needed to build it so that Taker and Punk had a legitimate reason to want to fight each other. WWE wrestling is partly soap opera, so they should've just skipped the 4-way qualifier and went straight to Punk antagonising Taker, leading to a match. Pulling the great Paul Bearer into the story instantly gives Punk heat and Taker sympathy, so it would've been easy to lead with that and scrap all of the qualifying stuff.
@tafua_a

Qualifying for a streak in general? Sure. But the Undertakers streak of the time? Not the best idea but the honor of trying to beat that streak is different than just trying to fight an undefeated guy. So I can understand why you’d want to fight for it. But the better plan is of course having an issue to explain why you’re fighting him over just winning to qualify.

Sorta takes the heat away from it. Takers WrestleMania rivalries (unless there's a title involved) need to start as someone making it their personal vendetta break the streak and staking their claim. Someone else fighting them for that claim just distracts from the actual story needing to be told.

I think after watching this, you realize why things have gone the way they have in AEW. He left WWE due to hypocrisy and politics. Now he went to a company where you have wrestlers as EVPs(recipe for disaster historically) and people not being straight up and playing games. I think that also he had felt pressured into having a match early with Jon Moxley(the squash match or Rocky/Clubber Lang fight 1 lol) and it brought him back to how wrestling made him miserable to begin with. Hopefully him and Kenny Omega can work things out for a future match but I wouldnt hold my breath for The Young Bucks as they definitely act like children and have no regard for the history of pro wrestling. At least Kenny, from interviews I have seen, seems more like level-headed guy that you could possibly sit and have a civilized conversation with. As much as people dont like the brand split, I think it gives time for both parties to think about it and realize the potential storyline and match series they could have. It also allows Punk the creative freedom without any politics for a while. I think Punk, more than anything, wants things to make sense and that can be very frustrating in the world we live in and the different personalities we have to deal with.

Plus, it would have made him a more unique heel since straightedge wasn’t really a well known thing back than, He wouldn’t have been main event level because you still had guys like Rock, Austin, Taker and HHH there full time, but Punk absolutely would have been an upper mid carder with guys like Jericho, Benoit and Eddie

Pac also couldn't cut a promo and that didn't stop him. Punk didn't look cool. No one cared about ring skills. The only thing he had was mic skills which I was never a fan of and everyone would have crapped all over "straight edge" and not in the heel way but in the "X-Pac heat" way. And this here is why WWE is currently crap. Vince thinks he still knows how things should be and books to how he feels... even though he's a much older bloke than he used to be. 1) Why would someone go into a fatal four way just to fight Taker? Surely start with a storyline and build on it? 2) Why DOES it make sense for the fighter to lose clean to Kane? Even if they get their heat back with a sneak attack, you have just shown us that this guy can't even beat Taker's brother - and Taker has beaten him at Mania twice already. The booking makes no sense! Also, Vince was all 'I know how this goes pal, doing this will make you an even bigger heel'. And did it? No. People wanted CM Punk to be 'their voice' against 'the man'. Not a crap baddie who looses to The Rock, Taker and Kane. And falling ratings across the board just prove how out of touch or not caring Vince really is. That said, he doesn't sleep and they say you go crazy in older age if you don't sleep. So 🤷‍♂️
