Don't forget that we Brits were also the first country to abolish slavery. In addition, we spent billions of pounds in todays money in policing it's abolition along the atlantic coast of Africa, in which many British lives were lost.

it would be more accurate to say Britain, rather than just Brits as there were many Brits involved in the transportation and utilizing slaves to other colonial countries, just not in the home country. fun fact we never had a ban on slaves in this country as it wasn't necessary as anyone who came to this country has always been considered a free person (and the fact that we utilised the roman way of waged butlers and maids rather than enforced indenturement ) but we sure as heck used them in colonizing other places like the carribean, america and even in africa itself.

@@s4ss1n Just to correct you there, slavery was banned outright in Britain in 1102AD, which is why slavers tried to steer clear of coming to Britain, as once any slave stepped foot on British soil, they were considered free. To add a little though, the reason British merchants were able to trade in slaves, was because all the other countries rejected the plea to abolish slavery on their lands, as it was the main source of their economies and national pride, and as Britain operated the lands of the Empire on a system of 'local autonomy', we couldn't ban it without an act of Parliament and those countries made damn sure to keep ghat from happening... until the British/French war that engulfed Europe, and during that kerfuffle, Abolishionists packed Parliament enough to get the said act passed, then the war against slavery could begin!

Love your channel guys but you're missing half of the information by talking over it. Nobody minds if you pause to discuss something. As for inventions, There are places in the world that are still doing things the same way they did hundreds of years ago. Inventions are made by people who look for better ways of doing things. The piston ring was invented to solve a problem. If the piston is lose enough to move inside the cylinder then the gasses escape around the sides of the piston and you lose efficiency. if you make the piston tight enough against the cylinder it causes too much friction & as the piston expands it jams against the walls of the cylinder. So someone sat down and thought of a way to solve the problem, hence a metal ring made of spring steel that can expand & contract that seals the gap around the piston. It's just problem solving.

You are a nice bunch of guys and gals BUT... please stop talking over the video dialogue. It meant you missed out on much of what the video was saying (because you were talking and watching each other) and also made it difficult for others trying to watch and hear the video. Cheers.

Yeah. Maybe agree to stop the video, when you want to talk about something or have questions about. It is a reaction channel, so it does need to have you interacting with the video, but just pause so we can hear both your comments and the original video.

Missed one of the very biggest: IVF treatment was pioneered in Britain, with the first child having been born through IVF in England jn 1978. Since then 12 million babies have been born to couples who would otherwise never have been able to have children 😊

Not too bad for a small island. We also invented a lot of other items like the light bulb etc. Thomas Edison did not invent it he just patented it. It was invented by Joseph Swan whose name was added to Edison's company.

Hi folks, I am very interested to learn what Nigerians are taught as to the reason for Britain colonising Nigeria. Are they taught that it was to stop the slave trade stimulated by the Sokoto jihad and the Yoruba wars and the British promoted the palm oil trade to replace the slave trade. Being British, we are very much educated on both the right and wrongs we did, and I believe we stayed a little too long when Nigeria began its democratic political parties. I am interested to learn if Nigerians are taught the same way, in accepting both their good and bad history.

You got it guys. Everything is an upgrade. "Why not try this?" "Pretty good but it needs this." "That's better but how about this?" and so on. The first idea might be basic but without that spark, nothing else follows. The very epitome of necessity being the mother of invention.
