My dad died of Motor Neurone Disease in 2005, he went from the strongest person I have ever known. He was a soldier and a boxer, to in 14 months, being a bag of bones that could only move his eyes. You eventually drown in your own saliva, because you can't swallow any more. Yeah, it's not great. There is no cure, and no way of knowing why it chooses you. It could literally happen to anyone.

They are hard hitting aren't they. We don't sugar coat ads with serious messages here in the UK, they're effective because they are so graphic. They're meant to make you uncomfortable in the hope you'll take notice and act, whether it be learning first aid of simply to donate. All of your reactions said it all and it's obvious with that youre good people judging by the emotion and compassion you all displayed. Love from the UK 🇬🇧💓

I’m a Brit and I remember all these adverts. They really make you think and realise what other people are going through. I used to care for a lady with motor neurone disease. It was awful to watch. All her muscles stopped working over time, her hands curled up into a tight ball with some of her fingers stiff and bent. Her legs bent to one side, she was in a wheelchair by then. After that she lost all physical functions. She went into a care home. She couldn’t even use her muscles to close and open her own eyes or swallow. She just lay there. Unable to move at all, yet her mind was fully functioning. She knew everything that was going on. We used to have to put eye drops in her eyes. Glycerin and lemon sticks in her mouth to stop her mouth drying out. We would close her eyes at night and turn the TV and light off. I would always wonder “What if she was watching that TV show and didn’t want us to turn the TV off and shut her eyes” We would open up her eyes in the morning and I’d wonder.. , . “What if she has been awake for a couple of hours just waiting for us to open her eyes” She was tube fed. And couldn’t move at all. Her body just didn’t work. But her brain worked perfectly. I can’t imagine how horrible that would be. How horrible it would be to be locked in your own mind with a body that doesn’t move or work at all. Adverts like these are used to encourage people to donate money to find a cure, or to donate to Childrens charities so they can help save more children. Or to encourage more people to get themselves trained in trauma, resuscitation and first aid. To make parents check smoke alarms etc. very powerful commercials
