Huh, I guess I missed that JL Adventures issue when you (James) were going through them. It's odd that it seems so for sure not-canon (given Starro's design, setting, etc.) and, yet, there's that line at the end by Superman hinting at Starro's "reappearance" in "The Call." It's especially so when you consider Supes, at that point, was already holding the one in his zoo from that S:TAS episode. Unless, because they're a different color, Superman doesn't recognize his Starro as one of them, but it's a stretch. (🤷♂️)

Maybe he didn’t want to stereotype Not all giant space starfish are the same
I'm sure someone has pointed this out already, but there wouldn't have been any continuity error when dealing with Batman Beyond. The future Justice League were not checking the League's computers, they were younger members (not even born yet during JL or JLU) who did not personally know about Starro. "... Have you seen anything like this before?" I'm certain this technical fact (the best kind of fact) wouldn't have dissuaded a lot fans from complaining (what does nowadays), but it easily makes it a non-issue. As for the argument, "Well, Superman would have known to be careful when feeding it..." in what continuity have you been watching? The only Superman more obliviously trusting and episodically forgetful than the DCAU Superman was the black-and-white live-action version.

When in doubt, a DCAU newcomer, if not binging afficionado, better end Batman Beyond with "The Call" and Return of the Joker, NOT the airdate order finale "Unmasked" or the ever skippable The Zeta Project crossover"Countdown". After that, they should continue on with Justice League+Unlimited and Static Shock (with the non-DCAU Teen Titans on the side, later to be succeeded with The Batman 2004 after JL Unlimited is done). Besides, seeing the Beyond-era Justice League Unlimited team before seeing their founders' origins somehow feels right. Oh, and we sorely need a Starro with mind control powers akin to the Black Mercy. That would be a perfect amalgamation. (Addendum: Shocking how the DCAU thrived on via winging it in spite of the lack of a planned out storytelling course akin to Babylon 5 and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Still, gotta respect their grudging need to not put Starro in JL because continuity purism.) (2nd addendum: If Bruce Timm doesn't like Starro that much, then I don't like Joker bullet-paralyzed, wheelchair-bound Oracle.) (3rd addendum, please forgive: Just how many years was Superman Starro-possessed in the DCAU, and even then, how were the likes of Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, and, if still alive, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen left unaware of it?)
