You know what’s funny. I watched all your videos and they helped me build my shower when I lived in Maryland. After I built the shower my company moved me to Atlanta now and I’m building another shower 😂. Great video.

It seems you're getting better and better with every video. You constantly teach and give insight into material and processes... It never seems to get old . Had a couple of comments/question, but I'll ask later. When is your next "Live" broadcast

Can't wait to see the next video. What would be the best low maintenance tile to get for a shower floor that has proper waterproofing and slope?

Porcelain

I've been wondering when you water proof the drain with liquid water proofer, red guard aqua defense. Wouldn't the water site right at drain between drain housing and water proofer? Since it cant drain thru the water proofer and sits below tile at drain? Would this be an issue. That's the phase I'm currently at. Water proofing the slurry. I already got the shower pan liner, than slurry and now water proofing. Thanks for videos.

My feeling on it is 3/8 of an inch or so below the tile a little water that sits at the waterproofing and the thinset would dry out a whole lot quicker than it would if it got into the mortar pan, evaporation will occur between showers

@StarrTile awesome. Makes me feel better. Been thinking about it at night. Thanks again.

A couple years ago I did a backsplash with it going up to the top of the cabinets behind the range hood. Anyways i got some staining when I grouted the tile, I could literally see them absorbing the grout from the outside in, was the same little hexagon as on this showerpan. I sealed them only on the face of the tile after they were set. In the future I think I may try and seal them before I set them, is that what you are supposed to do? I'm a finish carpentry, so I don't know all the finer details of tile material, grouts, thinset ect

Tile itself does not need to be sealed unless it is a porous Natural Stone, then you would seal your front back and sides before setting, but basically the grout that you are sealing afterwards
@grantmackinnon13072 ай бұрын
That's where I went wrong. I only sealed the face of the tiles, the grout stained through the sides. Oh well, the home owners love the hardwood and tiled floors, trim work and railing, I just feel stupid for messing that part up, but I think it lightend up over time. Wonder how many people think back on mistakes they made

Ever try using a thermal camera? We use is as "x-ray" vision to see where the leaks are.
@StarrTile5 ай бұрын
Because all the working parts of a shower pan work together, even if you knew the problem the solution is always going to be a new shower pan, therefore knowing where it's leaking from is kind of irrelevant
@andrewschafer77904 ай бұрын
I have seen at least 3 leaks at or below the shower drain flange…

I wanna see it get ripped up so we can see what the issue was.

A heated shower floor under that marble would keep the porous marble dry and prevent water staining
@StarrTile5 ай бұрын
Possibly yes, but keeping mortar dry with waterproofing on top would work too
