Here's PROOF you can use MARBLE TILE in a SHOWER --- Disneyland's Grand Californian Hotel

Most people think that putting marble tile in a shower is a bad thing, but here is a shower in Disneyland's Grand Californian Hotel that has been used daily for over 4 years and it still looks brand new. While marble is softer and more porous than porcelain and ceramic tile, its timeless beauty and natural look make it a really good choice. Marble is sensitive to acids and can stain, but regular cleaning and sealing will make it a beautiful shower surface for many years.

When i was in high school i worked for a mason. He told me you can always tell a good mason from a bad mason just from his, or her joint lines. He said that if you look up a wall and see them nice and straight he was good. I've been looking at brick and tile work ever since. Your video brought back some memories of him and his passion along with yours for your work. Have a great Thanksgiving Isaac and family!! Enjoy your time

I bought marble for my shower floor and returned it when I heard it wasn't good in a shower. I went back and forth and bought probably 6 different floor tiles. I didn't like any of them and went back to the marble. The very helpful lady at Floor & Decor told me not to be afraid of it and told me how to install it and care for it. It is beautiful.

@@OGCJ10the only issue so far is that the metal squeegie fell a couple of times and made a few nicks in the a few pieces. Only I notice it. We sealed it when we installed it and it has been great.

Nice. Thanks for the peek. Ive always grouted my corners but i make sure all my walls are good and strong and i reinforce the framing where necessary to limit any movement. When installing concrete backerboard i pay particular attention to the corners and overlap the backerboard but leave a small 1/8" gap. i use the Redgard waterproofing system and i heavily reinforce my corners and seams with 3" to 5" fiberglass mesh tape and 3 good coats of Redgard. When i lay the tile i overlap the opposite direction and when i grout i really pack it in the corners completely filling that void. Although you mentioned you prefer a tight squared corner, i generally leave a very small filet reasoning that its easier to clean. I think the slight give of the heavy waterproof coating allows just enough give for the tile to "float" a bit because although i warn my homeowners that i may have to return in a year or 3 to caulk the corners, ive never had to do so and i have showers as old as 15 years with nice tight corners and intact grout joints. I even have a few jobs that i grouted the tub juncture on and they have held up 4 to 5 years or more. I think its a combination of doing everything right, to the nth degree and using good materials that makes the difference. But inevitably theres always that one job that just goes OFF occasionally. Thankfully those are few and far between and i think thats just the gods of construction keeping us humble. Lol. Cheers bro. Hey! Whata i gotta do to get a vacation?

Caulking is a crutch that fails in a relatively short time. Grouting works great. Lived in a house with grout in the corners of the shower for 30 years. no problems.

do you like sealing the marble in the shower with an impregnating sealer? I've watched videos that say it can lead to trapped water vapor stains and might not be worth the trade-off.

I clean tile. See marble showers in old homes sometimes. Unless your water or detergent is acidic you’ll be ok until your trying to remove hard water build up. Then you would normally use a mild acid to clean but will be unable without etching the marble. Could re-polish but that is costly. Slate can suffer this same problem to a lesser degree.

Grout cracking in the corners is like flipping a coin. It can last for 30 years or it can crack within a year. I think epoxy grout won't crack in the corner. I only grout corners if it's epoxy grout....Silicone corners if it's regular grout.

I'll bet that the marble is OK in areas that don't have very hard water. Here in AZ, we have very hard water, and it leaves deposits on everything. The typical acid/CLR used to remove the hard water deposits would also damage the marble (as I think the deposits and the marble are essentially the same material). I'd be interested to know the water hardness in your hotel (and if they use a water softener). That might make a difference. Enjoy your videos, by the way. Have done a few DIY tile jobs myself, and learned some things from your videos.
