A cowboy buys a horse from the town pastor. The pastor explains, “To make the horse go, you gotta yell, ‘Thank God!’ And to make it stop, yell, ‘Hallelujah.’” The cowboy rides away. He rides all day and starts to nod off in the saddle when he notices he is about to ride straight over a cliff. Searching his memory, he yells to the horse, “Hallelujah! Hallelujah!” The horse grinds to a stop just at the edge of the cliff. The cowboy wipes the sweat off his forehead. “Phew!” the cowboy sighs. “Thank God!”

All fine and good, but anyone who says their horse loves their job, is competitive, loves to jump, loves to go fast is anthropomorphizing the animal. Which says they do not see the horse for what the horse truly is, but for what they want from the horse. It's really kind of selfish.

Horseback riding & veganism: equines are not chairs. Many do not realize the problems related to equestrian sports, and riding in general. First of all, riding is exploitative, we use these animals for our pleasure, to entertain us, or to make money. We use the strength, the abilities, the intelligence, the bodies of these animals. Riding is a form of speciesism, since whatever one says, one sees the animal in some way as a chair, a vehicle or a usable thing. We use an object, not a living being endowed with feelings. You use a vehicle to get around (car, bike, bus, or walking), but not a horse. Who is a sentient being, and who lives for himself and not for us. Riding sees these animals as objects, interchangeable goods, which must be profitable and effective. To consider the animal as a means, return to give it value only when it is profitable for us, and then; this can lead to despising his rights when he is no longer: "You do not serve us anymore: butchery. ". I am not saying that all riders will do this, only that this is unfortunately common in animal exploitation in general. The goal being profit, animals must bring back something (money, strength, intelligence, etc.).
