The Dead were a while different scene. People that can't appreciate 4 hours of peace and tranquility and dance can't appreciate a Dead show. It was a different scene and can't be repeated again. I went to about 100 shows up uptil Jerry passed and I always had a wonderful time. So sad for folks that can never experience that again.

Cobaine had the musical talent of a 3 year old making noise. I guess screaming the same verse over and over into a mic while not having any talent and thrashing about on stage makes you a musician.. grunge and nirvana died a long time ago in the mid 90s. Not to mention the Dead are still selling out venues almost 60 years later.

Jerry Garcia himself wasn't a fan of The Dead and often acknowledged how ropey they could be...He appreciated the history, the songs and the lifelong friendships but he spent much of the 70s/80s/90s performing and recording with a very wide selection of musicians apart from The Dead exploring different Americana styles... you can almost hear him laugh at what Keith, Kurt, Anthony said about the band or at anyone else who disses them...

Just about my least favorite music but I admire them for many reasons- they never appeased record companies relying on their live shows to survive, they encouraged fans to tape their music, again turning their nose up to record companies and creating a musical company to enjoy music as it was always enjoyed within the history of the world. In a communal setting, not alone with the things sticking to your ears. But I do think it's funny how I like, very much, all the bands mentioned who didn't like them.
@smokesletsgo237412 күн бұрын
Exactly. They aren't my thing either, I dig a handful of their songs (Deal is a banger) but I don't see any reason to actively hate them. Their music is not overplayed on the radio and they were never big on MTV except a brief time in the 80s. In all honesty if I never want to listen to the Dead again it's very easy to do so. You have to go to them, they don't go to you. It's not like How You Remind Me by Nickelback which was on the radio 100 times a day for 20 years. I can see how you'd hate that

The only thing the Dead ever accomplished was to prove that you can use rock instruments to play elevator muzak and anything can sound good if you're sufficiently wasted. Keef has every right to be pissed at them because they hired the Hells Angels for the Altamont concert and then refused to play when they started wreaking havoc. As a result the Stones got all the blame and nobody blamed the Dead, not that the Stones were completely blameless. Too much religion!
