Mike I have indeed seen you both mopping and sweeping the floor and maybe unplugging a clogged toilet on one rare occasion. Gotta say you make it look fun, you always have a smile on your face even when you're dog tired. The only thing I've seen that might be considered getting to you would be a cantankerous pinball machine. 🤣 Fun podcast guys.

Since both of you are opening an arcade maybe yall can dedicate an episode to the process of opening an arcade. I plan on opening an arcade someday so I love learning from someone with that expertise. 1. Did you file an LLC ? 2. What special permits or licensing is needed to open an arcade that will serve beer and alcohol? 3. Where is a good location to open an arcade? 4. What kind of prices for the Lease should you be looking at based on expected revenue. ( Low end ) 5. Is it better to open small and build your way up or open with 100+ games? 6. CRTs vs LCDs debate? 7. Emulators vs Authentic hardware? 8. SBA Loan vs Traditional? 9. Pitfalls along the way of opening? ( Bad Contractors ) 10. How much should you estimate when taking out a loan ? 11. How to find a contractor in your area? 12. Monthly Expenses ? 13. Cash Flow ? 14. Employees ? 15. Taxes ? Sorry I was just trying to pose some questions I would ask if I only had 1 hour of your time. I'm currently working at an FEC to get my experience with games and customers up , once I finish paying my house off I plan on going all in to open an arcade. These stories give me inspiration.

Really enjoyed the podcast! Please keep doing them. I’m a 90’s kid from Kansas, but I loved arcades. My aunt would always take me and my brothers throughout the 90’s. Great memories and glad to see arcade culture seems to be making a comeback. I now live in Florida and we have a great little arcade called the Replay Museum here in Tarpon Springs. They have pinball machines from every decade as well.

When I was around 10 (late 80s - early 90s), me and my best friend used to go into bars during the day to play arcades. They never cared cause we obviously weren’t drinking and we were dumping quarters.

Great pod cast, Thanks guys enjoyed it. Question: What is a restore on an arcade game? New side art / CPO art? New buttons / joysticks? Patina?
@ElectricStarshipArcade11 ай бұрын
I honestly think it depends on the game, what it needs, and the person it belongs to. “Restore” can certainly mean all the things you mentioned but ultimately it’s making the game look and play as close to new again as you can.

Thanks For The Shout Out ( 19:40 ), Hit me up when y’all coming! I most def open for y’all! our city of Wichita Falls is a little bit smaller, so we kind of just based on our times on the people. We like to consider ourselves more of after school after work hang out spot. As of now for the public we are wed - fri we open at 5pm to 10pm, and Sat 6pm to 11 pm. And yes we have a Cereal Bar. We do a lot of private parties as well before, after, and on day we close. . What y’all guys said about the mixup is true, those must have classics will bring them in, but also you do have to have those multiplayer games that includes shooting, fighting and driving to keep them in. We try to keep that home vibe as well. The one thing I learned that pinball is a hit but as you said they are very expensive. We are kind of on the get one a year status so we have a pick very carefully, but also had the themes fit us. . Speaking of the arcades of the 303 mall and six flags mall, when I used to live in Arlington/Grand Prairie (1990-95) those was my stomping grounds. The six flags mall tilt was one of the best arcade I remember. It was the one arcade that I played a six player X-Men and also a Michael Jackson Moonwalker. I also remember showbiz pizza across from the six flags mall as well. Speaking of the 303 mall, I used to live across from the apartments from that mall. And I do remember the arcade being on the bottom of a spiral of stairs. It was kind of sad whenever I tried to visit both about 10 years ago, and it was just a shell of itself. . Guys, this was great. Keep it up. I can’t wait for your next episode. I would like to hear about Rescue Restoration, Repairs, CRT vs LCD.

Unfortunately the 303 mall was bulldozed in 2017 and is now an industrial park.

Just a note on pinball. Having made the rounds, and I'm still very new to this (long story, I blame Mike W. for all of it), but the classic pins are just as popular as any of the new machines. At least for those that get pinball. For those just walking in off the street, yeah all they understand is all the flash, but I would plead a case for having a rotating set of Early and Mid SS machines. Even the odd EM from time to time.
@TheGeekPub11 ай бұрын
I feel like the problem with pins (EM for example) is that the they would basically be impossible to run in a public arcade. I suspect that the maintenance costs would very likely be overwhelming.

I was curious, so i looked it up, Taito was founded by a Ukrainian Jewish refugee in China during WW2
